as a warrior if you go defensive stance you take less fall damage
warriors in defensive stance, rogues with safe fall(trainable at level 40), and druids in cat form have safe fall are all ways to nullify fall damage
priests levitate
mages slow fall
shamans used to be able to use the sentry totem bug
so many ways to avoid fall damage you just have to play with the game ^^
