At about level 63-64, I remembered that I had a Voidwalker and he is actually pretty good. Until then, I always had succy out and drain-tanked.

Send VW to first mob.
Dot it up (no immolate since it generates aggro fast)
Send VW to second mob.
Dot 2nd mob.
Drain Life first mob until dead, then go to second.

During leveling, I don't think I handled large groups of mobs and never used imp unless I was in a 5-man.

But, try a few different things and see what works for you.
