Re: New to WoW, New to the Forums, simple question.

Mining and then either herb/skinning as far as professions go.
While you can make your own gear as you level up there isn't much you can make that is loads better than what you can quest for or buy on the auction house. Levelling up is so fast now with the quest changes that any gear you do make/buy only lasts a little time before it needs upgrading.
So mine and herb/skin, sell everything and make loads of money, then when you approach 70 buy what you need and get tailoring to 375 and make your decent stuff then
It may save you a little if you save any cloth you get as you level up, but lower end cloth is relatively cheap to buy (at least up to mageweave), and at 70 you can farm as much cloth as you like anyway.
Enchanting complements tailoring very well but is very expensive to level, and really other than the ring enchants you can buy any enchants you need off others. Decide now if you are going to swap to enchanting later on tho, if you are then save every green/blue item you outgrow or don't need as it will save you a fortune in the long run. Even if you have to send every bind on equip item to an alt you make to save.
