how broken are locks? (extrapolating from ptr)
argh....
just tried most specs I can think of on ptr server, against target dummies and in heroics. Caveats: I know...they might balance classes a bit dps wise....I'm only level 70 ofc....I've got shadow damage enchant on main weapon.....and I've only been fiddling with new talent trees for 6 hours so far.
But...we seem quite broken.
Fire destro dps is awful, truly awful atm...and the rotation is just not fun whatever version you choose: CoE, Corruption (to get molten core proc), Immolate, Chaos Bolt (mobs in heriocs are dead at this stage ofc if you've got newly scary boomkin or pally in there), incinerate incinerate incinerate (with an imp attack to be mixed in there)...and after all that I generate 20% less damage/fun than SB Spam destro.
If I'm working that hard I'd like to generate some decent results pls blizz.
Affliction. much more fun than fire when grinding trash, and nice dps on bosses (equivalent to SB Spam atm) but we've got no real way of doing nice damage on trash (ok ok...raids...not so crucial, but in heroics? locks will be judged on overall damage more often than judged - and hence re-invited - on boss fights in heroics) one of our top tier talents will be an utter liability : Everlasting affliction proccing on aggro reset bosses wlll get us killed a lot. So we're going to have to spam incinerate I guess for certain sections of fights and won't be able to use soul drain (affliction having no points in increased fire damage...seems odd...we have no efficient way of doing damage when we can't use dots)
Demonology. Dps was better than fire (25% crit, 1400 shadow damage) with a couple of nice buffs up constantly and demon hits/crits *seemed* to replinish lock's health nicely (and vice versa). If I wanted to be bound to using a pet at all times though, I'd roll a hunter where I have some control (now) over what kind of role I want it to take/how well it survives. (pet health talent is way out of reach of deep destro build, and imp is still squishy)
Anyway upshot is, I didn't even have the courage to volunteer for ptr ZA runs (and I love ZA) because ....just yuk...I didn't want to play my newly talented lock in any raid.
I responded to DK rolling thread before this ptr experience ("no hurry" to roll a DK). I may yet change my mind on that.
and in the meantime; I'm going to cherish SB spam whilst it still works.
I checked on public channels and most locks seemed to be thinking along same lines on the ptr. Any thoughts? Are we broken? what should blizz do to fix us?
*I know...we've prob all heard it before....soz for any repetition but I was just really appauled by fire destro experience
