Re: Demonic Pact

For leveling, this talent is too high in the tree to really be able to significantly affect anything. If you are leveling deep deep demo, then maybe you take it, but there are other talents in other trees that are better from a leveling perspective since you are often solo.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

For 5 man instances, it could actually be quite good. The chance to end up with an Elemental Shaman in any given 5 man is low, so I think this along with the Felguard and Meta form that would almost certainly go with it would make 5 mans a breeze.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Demonic Pact has to be the worst talent in all of the Demo tree for raiding. I can even imagine a situation where the pitiful Imp Enslave Demon would be preferred (if you consistently summon a 15 minute Doomguard).

Totem of Wrath is so much better than Demonic Pact its pathetic. At 70 ToW increase raid crit rating by 3% and raid spell power by 140 (280 at 80). Meaning you would have to have over 1400 spell power to get an increase over what ToW provides. I actually bet many Demo locks are actually close to this number or exceed it, but it's not just Demo locks. Do other locks have this number? Do other casters? Every caster has to beat 1400 for DP to beat ToW. And that's just the damage portion, you can never overcome the 3% crit ToW provides.

DP is completely dependent on your pet. What if your pet dies? What if it has to be pulled away from the boss because it is about to die? What if the boss goes physical immune? No buff, no buff, no buff.

DP lasts 12 seconds, if your pet doesn't crit at least every 12 seconds, for whatever reason, no buff. ToW lasts 5 minutes.

Raid members don't even have to be close to ToW anymore. The totem provides a debuff, it merely has to be within 40 yards of the boss.

ToW is an awesome talent, and getting an elemental shaman, (who would spec for ToW every single time) should be a priority for any raiding guild. DP is a poor poor substitute for it, and making a lock spec for it (thereby almost certainly hurting his personal dps) would be a shame.

The ONLY situation where I would put talent points in this for raiding was if there was no elemental shaman in my guild at all. Even the possibility that Totem of Wrath would be used would be enough to make me skip this for raiding.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

In Battlegrounds it would be skipped by any serious pvper for more reliable pvp talents like Demonic Resilance, Fel Synergy, even Master Conjurer is better.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Probably even less useful in arenas than in BGs for the reason that pets get killed alot in Arena and this talent is completely pet dependant. Again, any serious Demo pvper would be taking more relaible pvp talents over this.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

In conclusion, I think Demonic Pact is one of the worst talents in any warlock tree and maybe one of the worst talents in the entire game. The only place it has a realistic possibilty of shining is in 5 man pugs, which is...........pathetic.

It's completely pet dependant, it requires your pet to crit every 12 seconds, it requires you to have a high crit rating so your pet can crit, it requires to you to spec into the also underwhelming Improved Demonic Tactics to try and get your pet's crit rate higher, and its a tier 10 talent, supposedly up there where all the good talents are. Just look how insanely good Everlasting Affliction is for Aff locks for a comparision.

The best thing about this talent is that if speccing deep Demo I know I won't be putting any points here and thus the rest of my talent choices become easier.
