Re: Button Timers

Hey guys, I am the author of both TimerButtons and ButtonTimers. I just found this thread.

I originally wrote TimerButtons, which was my first mod in a long time. I made a few mistakes with it that made it difficult to maintain long term. The biggest was trying to keep a database of spells in the mod.

I had an aha moment and decided to rewrite the mod around action buttons. This made it easier to provide a lot of the features that people were asking for. I also implemented it using Ace3, which made the configuration easier. As a result, I have been able to provide a lot more customizability in the new mod.

The drawback is that it uses Action Buttons in ways that people are unfamiliar with. Not everyone realizes that there are 120 Action Buttons used in various ways by the UI. Traditionally they are divided up into 10 bars of 12 each, but I gave ButtonTimers the ability to use whichever buttons the user desires. That is more flexible than a traditional bar replacement mod, but it also confused some people, especially in the earlier incarnations when I defaulted it to displaying buttons from bar 1.

I encourage people to migrate from TimerButtons to ButtonTimers, since I don't have much interest in maintaining the old mod. ButtonTimers does everything that the TimerButtons did and has way more capabilities.

ButtonTimers has the ability to lock the frame in one spot.

It shows dots on your current target. If you switch targets, it will update the timers to show dots on the new target.

There is also the ability to tell it to look at other targets. For example, you could configure a button to show dots on your Focus target. This can be handy if you use your focus target for CC. Or you can designate a member of your party/raid as a target, which might be handy for tracking the soulstone buff.
