If you're aff, and the mage is half compitent, you will most likely loose, regardless of mage spec.
If you're demo or destro you have a potentially fighting chance because mage armor doesn't hurt you as hard.
As destro I know I can take out an arcane or frost mage when they burn all their CDs (I don't see fire mages anymore *sadpandaface*) even without a pet. It can be rough, you need to bait them around corners and such, take advantage of terrain and play dirty sometimes. Mages got buffs vs locks this xpack, and they have two years of bitterness that they want to lash out against you. So if you toss a gernade at the mage to stop his casting, pop a cloak device, or net him to bait a blink so he can't do anything against shadowfury, don't feel bad, because he most likely will pop mirror image and run off while the images will wear you down.
