3.1 Re: First lvl 80 arena experience - what a dissapointment... :-/

so i've been gearing up my lock for pvp for about 2 months now - mind you i had no pvp experience prior to that, but my guild died... i had nothing better to do.

i got up to about 650 resil 3 weeks ago and decided to pair up with my IRL friend the mage for some 2v2 to get my feet wet in arena. i have to be honest - i didn't have the same experience. prior to that i had actually set foot in arena, but i was so bad and in nearly 0 pvp gear that i just laughed it off. i've been pleasantly surprised with my ability to kite opponents & time some pretty serious nukes given the right situation.

now - i'll be the first to admit a warlock/mage combo is not the best. we're really just doing this for laughs. but last week we went 5-5 or something and i don't think that's too bad *considering* he has about 200 resilience lol.

anyway here's my advice based on very limited experience, so you may want to take it with a few grains of salt:

- farm bunches of honor and break 600 resil before taking arena serious in anyway. you'll find the survivability is lot higher

- in the process of farming honor through BG's, take it upon yourself to engage in as much senseless 1v1 fights as possible. yep that's right. look at it as practice. you'll learn pretty quickly various techniques for staying alive and burning opponents

- pay very close attention to your play style and what's comfortable for you. for me, i'm terrible at survival. so, my whole goal is to do as much cc/surviving as needed to burn down an opponent. in other words i'm not one of those guys that can piss around for 20 minutes while you burn all your cooldowns - i'm much more likely to just try and blow your face off. other people are different.

- you can't really avoid the "1st target" problem, but you can try to prioritize your cc's a little bit. use the cc's with the shorter cooldowns first. realize that most people who target you first are going to be blowing their big dps cooldowns, so the idea here is to cause a delay for several seconds... then open up.

anyway, that's kinda vague but it's been working for me. i think the biggest help is not taking it too seriously until you can at least be decked out in full hateful/deadly gear.... then maybe find a more serious partner and give it a rock. that' swhat i'm doing anyway :p
