I usually put CoW on the pet and unload on the hunter. With Backlash and the pet hitting me, I get a fair few procs for the insta-cast and can usually drop them quite easily, but that's just me.

This particular hunter was geared well enough to have killed me even though I had almost 23k health, 692 resil, Soul Link + Glyph + Molten Skin in a matter of seconds even though I used an Imp Healthstone and a Death Coil (for the health)...he was in Nax25/Ulduar gear. I couldn't think of doing much else than I did, but short of using the trinket on the pet stun, I couldn't manage to stay out of LoS long enough to outlast Big Red =P...but like I said, this only seems problematic when dueling very well geared BM hunters - and only in that situation. Rogues, Warriors and DK's are all much easier by comparison.
If I had been using the VW this might be a different case...but I personally find playing with the VW, albeit useful at times, very boring.
