About the MC - you can avoid it if one of you stands behind the statue that are on sides of the room. Only nasty thing is to position Kael so that he stands exactly in the middle of it and your partner exactly in the same spot on the other side. Wait till Kael emotes some sort of "Bow to my will" or so and then you have about 15 to 20 secs free time from MC.
