Yea that strategy wont work at 60+ since a hunter WILL kill you if you spend that much time with his pet. Normally what i would do with a hunter is pretend his pet isnt there. Use a VW, sac it, then curse of weakness on the pet and then i proceed to dot up/immolate conflag the hunter. As for running up to him, maybe at your level hunters dont have concussion shot, but usually you wont get in the hunters "dead zone" (8yrds) unless he wants you to be there. Deathcoil is also very helpful to inturrupt a hunter if he pops volley since it increases ranged speed by 40% and usually spells insta death for casters.
