DPS Bias (pt.2)
Posted June 12, 2009 at 12:35 PM by Eirchi
In summary, looking at the entire instance, which classes top the damage meters?
42% Rogue
16% Death Knight
14% Mage
12% Warlock
4% Warrior
4% Druid
3% Hunter
3% Shammy
2% Priest
1% Paladin
So the maxim "Bring the player, not the class" works best when the player is a Rogue.
----------------
And which builds are doing the most damage?
Rogue
- 87% Combat
- 13% Assassination
Death Knight
- 71% Unholy
- 21% Blood
- 8% Frost
Warlock
- 50% Affliction
- 50% Destruction
Mage
- 80% Fire
- 16% Frost
- 4% Arcane
Shammy
- 100% Elemental
Priest
- 100% Shadow
Drood
- 100% Feral
Warrior
- 75% Fury
- 25% Arms
Hunter
- 70% Survival
- 30% Marks
Looking at the data you can see some builds are better for particular bosses. For example
Affliction Warlocks are very strong on Yogg-Saron, but not as good as Destruction on most of the other bosses. Frost Mages are best at General Hard Mode and not great on the rest of the instance.

Going to make a rediculous assumption now.
Blizzard has stated before that they want the 4 pure dps classes topping the meters by a small margin, and obviously they want classes as balanced as possible. This means:
- Rogues need a pve nerf
- Death Knights need a pve nerf
- Hunters need a pve buff
The other differences are so minor they could be the result of rng, but those 3 certainly stick out.Posted June 13, 2009 at 06:07 AM by Dizzygnome

Once again this data seams fail to me. First off your not judging if the players your data is from are in the top percentage of their class as far as performance. Thats the first mistake. Secondly none of the data listed is broken down by percentage of Damage to adds Vs. Percentage of damage to boss. Alot of these fights also have RNG movement that isnt measured by meters.
How many parses did you check? What guilds did you parse? Were all compared classes in comparable gear in relation to the players they were competing with.
Once again this post is useless without the data to back it. You need to make a legitimate post, and give hard data. You cant know if anything you said is accurate without knowing how close each of these classes were to pulling max theoretical dps.Posted June 16, 2009 at 11:38 AM by Vanthere

Download the spreadsheet in this post
World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums -> Ulduar Class DPS Comparison
It basically makes the same argument as Eirchi but with a more detailed analysis. The summary is the same though, Rogues are the top DPS class in the game on all but a few fights, and even where they aren't top they are competitive - in contrast to mages. Sadly, the sheet still needs a breakdown of different build but I believe it's a work in progress.
Check the standard deviation stat, that's probably the clearest indicator of what has gone wrong with "bring the player not the class".Posted July 06, 2009 at 04:59 AM by Valimir
