PvP in Season 5, a rant
Posted April 08, 2009 at 11:07 PM by Emmcee
With season 5 nearing an end and the dawn of patch 3.1 slowley creeping upon us, I am sad to say me and my partner broke up in arena. It was too much for him, i ****ed up 2 much due to massive in-experience and he didnt put out the support and communication I was looking for in a partner but I continued to pvp anyway.
This is the tale of a Resto Shammy and an Unholy DK
3 weeks ago I finally had full pvp gear and was feeling more competent in my ability to survive in PvP, so i picked up a unholy DK from my guild and started cracking. This being my first real arena season as a healer and at all, we hit 17xx within our first week. All I could say was that I was estatic, and sure enough next week we hit 1870, a rating good enough for us to hit Rival title in our battlegroup.
From then on it was downhill. I attribute our losing streak/plummet in rating to lack of experience and lack of cummunication. But i definatley take the blame for a TON of the matches. Some of the comps were just to hard for us, others were easy and lead to me not healing myself while we tried to burst that healer down with a combination of purge, lightning bolt, and earth shock.
As of today my partner told me he will leave and will not come back to PvP next season. I think we did rediculously good in 3 weeks putting in 100 games a week for experience. So now i must seek a new partner for next season, but the outlook looks grimm.

PS: Warlock pvp is rediculously balanced if not IMBA due to stacking resilence and stam. An affliction lock with a healer and a totem stomping macro is CRAZY. If youre feeling weak in PvP stay in there, it will pay off eventually.
Peaceout

warlocks seem to be a highly gear dependent class, at least compared to a few others. I still remember when patch 3.0x came, and then the first weeks of Wrath of the Lich King, when people here were complaining about their PvE performance and even dropping their locks for DK's that could easily get some high dps in their quest greens. I found our group of warlocks, used to top meters in MH and BT, struggling with breaking into the top 10 dps in Naxx. And then, while people were still complaining, the first reports of warlocks doing 5k and 6k dps on patchwerk started coming in. And now? Our meta/ruin warlock dominates the overall damage meters by a huge amount, while our affliction and felguard/emberstorm locks occupy places 1-5 on most fights... I'm not an expert in arenas, but the same might happen there, or why else would quite a few warlock show up in the top 10 teams. Thats just a bit sad for the casual raiding/pvp warlock...Posted April 09, 2009 at 09:42 AM by lilsteele

I agree that Warlocks are gear dependent. We do really well with top notch gear. Problem I am having, and this is most likly the same issue others are having, is that getting the top gear is so hard.
I do 2s and 3s.. mainly 2s with my disc. priest partner. We are good friends so we stuck with each other, but honestly we probably aren't a great match. We are both too squishy and my dots take too long. He runs out of mana too soon. I think a pally would be awesome because of the mana they have.. and the plate helps them stay alive more.
Still I think that if the gear was a bit easier to come by we would be ok.
My partner is on the road for the warmer months so he won't be on much so I am not sure what next season will be like. Hopefully those of us that are struggling will find a way to make it work.Posted April 10, 2009 at 04:59 AM by Belthezor
