Welcome to the Fallenman & Clearly warlock blog! We decided to create this blog, so that people would have a central location to see anything they find useful posted by us. We will still be doing forum posts with most of our blog entries, but this gives people a go-to repository of information!!
To people who don't cast conflag after immolate.

So, this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine.
That pet peeve being people who don't cast conflag right after immolate because they don't like the .2-.4 seconds they have to wait to cast conflag. So instead they cast XYZ spell.
Here's the problem with that, and why it's a DPS LOSS to do that.
1. You will end up casting conflag LESS over the course of the fight doing it that way, than if you were to do it the proper way.
2. Putting XYZ filler (particularly CB) after immolate and before conflag, will often end up lining up your immolate end time with your next conflag cooldown, making you sometimes "miss" the end of the immolate and thus having to recast the next immolate before you can do your next conflag.
3. You RARELY have to cast conflag right after immolate if you use the PROPER method. This is because the conflag CD is shorter than the immolate dot. So other than the INITIAL cast of immo>conflag, it is rare that you will need to repeat that casting order during the course of a fight.

Thanks for the clarification. I am indeed one of those people that drives you crazy, but it's because I hadn't seen the reason for the initial cast sequence explained until now.

Though this might go against what you are saying I've found
Immolate, CoD, Conflag, Chaos Bolt, 3x Incin, Conflag, Immolate,Chaos Bolt, Incin, etc... (CoD>Conflag>Chaos Bolt>Incinerate)
Works quite well for me. I'm not losing that half second delay and I can still get in my conflag at the end of rotation one easily. There is actually about .5 sec you have to wait to get it back in which I usually LT early to top off my mana. I know this is a small dps loss but the fact that I can stack all my spells (pre-cast) makes life a bit easier on this lock.
Actually I've found that that single Life Tap can be the difference between not needing to LT for the rest of the fight and trying to squeeze one in when the boss is down to 5% and trying to juggle all the cooldowns while not letting immolate drop for too long.

Fallenman speaks the truth.
Conflagrate is by far the #1 damaging spell, both in terms of raw damage, and the backdraft buff. If you cast something else in the 0.2s wait time before you cast conflag, over the course of the fight, you miss out on several backdraft procs, and a sizable portion of damage that you would otherwise have done, not to mention some possible pyroclasm procs.Posted June 17, 2009 at 06:12 PM by Pakars

I cast CoD after conflag. I read on EJ somewhere that it picks up the Pyroclasm damage (if conflag crits). I tested it naked on dummies and it did give me bigger numbers. Since fights are unlikely to finish exactly on the minute, I assumed that it's okay to wait on refreshing CoD? Say if CoD has 10s left and conflag has 5s left on CD, I would cast conflag first and not cast CoD until my next conflag.Posted June 18, 2009 at 05:18 PM by Chiyeuk

Yes, I am guilty of doing this but I have an excuse! I live in NZ where the lag means that usually it takes 500-1000ms until I can cast conflagrate so thats enough time for a quick CB which just happens to be about the right cast time (~1.2s). I cast CoD one or two casts after conflagrate for the critting damage bonus and giving time for all my trinkets to proc - this means BIG numbers, good fun.Posted June 19, 2009 at 12:43 AM by Captainbj

Cantain, you are definitely someone who would be an exception to the rule. With a much higher latency like that, it makes sense for you to put something in between immolate and conflag.Posted June 19, 2009 at 11:35 AM by Fallenman

I simply cast Conflag right after Immo. During some sort of haste buff such as a potion or heroism i do put up Corr right after Immolate then Conflag.Posted July 16, 2009 at 03:09 PM by TiaMaster
