Thanks to Eritha for the questions. I was going to drop a reply in the comments, but as always, I started getting long winded. That and it's great fodder for another post!

I was wondering if you would mind sharing some more inner workings of ST? Specifically I'm interested in your mechanism for raid signup, what sort of issues you have with player/character rotation and do you run a 1-player-1-character-1-spec system?

As far as signups, I don't do them. As a guild we've tried to make use of both the GroupCalendar add-on as well as the new in-game calendar, both of which I personally didn't like. I prefer my method, which is to approach every raid optimistically. I assume you will be there unless I know otherwise. This makes it a lot easier for me to find my holes, and makes it easier on my raiders on a weekly basis. We have a forum section dedicated to schedule conflicts, and raiders are required to post their misses in that section. This also provides a great way for alternates to let me know they will be available for a particular spot that has opened up.

We don't do a lot of rotating, and what we do is usually an object of necessity. Our mentality of putting life above raiding means that we often have people miss, which naturally rotates a sub-set of people in and out of raids. I have yet to have a stable enough group that forced rotation has happened on a large scale. I've had individuals rotate (we had 4 mages during The Burning Crusade) but I left that up to the class to decide what was fair. They let me know who to invite each week, and I didn't worry about their methodology.

In general I frown on bringing alts into the raid unless it's something we specifically need. Part of it is gearing, part of it is an issue of fairness, but overall it just gets to be too complicated. Especially with the pugability of Naxx, this hasn't been an issue.

Finally, are you aiming for Glory for every member, character, or some combination thereof? I guess this comes back down to rotation.

We're still in process, but yes, we have a lot of people with various needs. I have a hunter that missed both weeks of Naxx20 and still needs that. I have a paladin in the same boat, but with Maly20. There are people who missed our Sarth3D kill. You get the idea.

What I did was schedule out my weeks in a forum post. People knew in advance what was planned when. I also made sure to get with my raiders when planning my 20-man runs, making sure people with conflicts would get in the week they needed, etc. Right now my focus is on getting the GUILD all the achievements. A lot of people only need 6-minute Maly and Immortal right now, and that's our focus. I'd say roughly 15-18 people will get their drake if we can clear these items this week. With the exception of the hard three achievements, everyone has had ample time to get the rest of what's out there.

Assuming we DO get those this week, I'm going to poll my raiders about what they still need, and focus on getting the most I can for the most people I can. Alts in no way factor into any of this. While a lot of people do have very active alts (my shaman is doing really well), I would never prioritize someones second character over a main.

One thing I have to face tonight is deciding who sits for our Immortal shot tonight. In cases like this, I do what is best for the group. I don't play favorites, I don't view anyone as entitled over someone else. I'll field the 25 people I think give us the best shot at getting what we need. In the coming weeks I'll do my best to fill out individual needs, but the good of the whole comes first. A lot of people in my guild know this and will gladly sit out. Others not so much, but it's something you have to deal with as a raid leader.

Tonight is our second run with the express intent of getting Immortal. There were a few fluke deaths last week, and some key people, myself included, weren't in attendance. Tomorrow night is dedicated to 6-minute Malygos, which we made very good progress on last week, and should drop. Those are the only two that the raid hasn't cleared. I know we have it in us, and it will be a HUGE achievement if we manage this. Thanks for the questions, and good luck with your guild as well!

Fantastic, thank you for the extra insight! As a followup, what're your plans for Ulduar, knowing what you know now about achievements and achieving them, if there are any? More of the same, or a different approach to dealing with them?

    All the best,
    - Eritha
