So, as I am the leader of a relatively new, and VERY small guild, I find myself having to PUG a lot of instances, to 1) just get some game time in, and 2) to discover potential recruits.

Recently, however, the number of people who think they can get away with showing up to a PUG, even a 5 man normal instance without basic addons (Omen, Deadly Boss Mods, Decursive) and Vent has just gotten too much for me to bear.

I don't care if you've done the instance dozens of times. I don't care if "LOL, it's easy, don't need vent." Things happen. Your healer could go link-dead middle of a boss fight, and if you aren't in vent, getting an off-healer, say a Retadin, to switch to healing takes too damn long to type (for the record this actually happened in a Reg AN I was tanking on my Pally (level appropriate to under-leveled group); the Retadin healed like a pro, and got a Guild Invite from me).

If on the other hand we are doing oh, say a TIMED COS run, your *** had better be in Vent! It's faster to say "Oh! I need that!" or "Blow it up!" or "Roll for vendor fodder," than it is for me to type it.

If nothing else, this is just good raid discipline. You keep your addons up to date, you make sure your vent is properly configured, your mic is working, you have your own food buffs and elixirs. Just because you can /faceroll some instanced content, doesn't mean you should.

My challenge to you, dear readers... next time you put together or join a PUG VOA group, insist that everyone be in Vent or kick them.

Me? I'm going to keep pulling together my Giants and Dragons Raids on Tuesday nights (VOA, OS, and EoE). If you are on the Lothar Server, and are tired to drama filled VOA runs, look us up. Maybe instead of 10-man we can do the 25.

YMMV. My experience has been that it depends on the raid. If I'm in a PUG for 25 man Naxx - vent is a must. For a shorter instance, you need to have whatever is appropriate to your class. Omen and DBM - I only put DBM on recently for Ulduar. Never used it in Naxx.
