Rhiadana: I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'

Hooo... well, don't you just love guild dramas?
Now, just to set things out, we're not a hardcore raiding guild. We're not even a medium core raiding guild. We're basically a social guild with a number of people who like to raid.
There are also a number of people who like to PvP as well.
Unfortunately there are also a few who just love to run the first 4 bosses in ICC for the emblems, get their gear and then leave.
Now, I don't know about your guild or how it works, but when a guild member who has only just joined the guild says something like "If I don't get a raid spot I might as well go find another guild" my instinct is to reply "Don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out".
The situation last night went as follows:
ICC 10 normal fresh run.
14 people signed up.
Priority was given to those people who have been there, every week for the last 3 or 4 months.
The other 4 people.. well, I can understand being disappointed, but hell, where have you been the last 3 months? Not here raiding with us, is the point.
We don't have enough tanks/healers to run 2 10-mans at the moment.
If that was me in the sidelined 4, sure I'd be disappointed, but can't people see that reacting like a spoiled 3 year old doesn't accomplish anything?
gah...drives me upthe wall.
In the end we did our usual, 7 bosses in 45 minutes. Rest of the week will be Putricide and Blood Princes.
I hear people on vent saying "oh we can't do this, it's too hard" on Putricide, and yes, it's a pain in the bum, but so was Fester and Rot when we first went in there. Hey, our first night in ICC we wiped on the circling Val'kirs before we figured out the Spawned Essences were heailing it.
That's what progress is all about...

It's a difficult balance to maintain, new raiders and old ones. Most of us can see the point of view from both sides though. It can be frustrating working your way into a guild that has dedicated raiders already, but at the same time, once you are part of a core, it's insulting to be asked to give your normal spot you worked hard to gain to a new player. Ultimately, someone will always end up being happy
The easiest way to decide I always found was the attitude,a nd again, this is both sides. If a new player gets sat a few times because they are new, and doesn't make a big deal and ragequit, they deserve a shot for waiting so patiently. If a core raider does nothing but QQ and whine while inside raids, they can sit and be reminded there are other raiders more then willing to take their spots. Any guilds I've ever been part of the adminsitrative end have been run this way, and for the most part, it worked. You (usually) ended up with a raid group of people who WANT to be there this way.Posted July 22, 2010 at 08:25 AM by Gallrock

Been there, just been through it recently again.
There are always different viewpoints to consider, but the temper tantrum is the one that's most detrimental regardless of point of view.
Agree with Gallrock, too.Posted July 22, 2010 at 08:42 AM by Tayles

Yes, I agree too.. The thing is, and this is something new members didn't know, was that until recently we could field 2 10 man runs. We're short a tank and healer though and all the recent members are DPS.
Once we get the requisite tanks and healers we'll be able to accomodate anyone who wants to run.
Crying and whingeing does not endear anyone to other members of the guild.Posted July 22, 2010 at 08:56 AM by Rhiadana

I think it is fine for existing guildies to find a new guild if they won't have a chance to raid. However, it can be done in a cordial manner without burning bridges. As you pointed out, you don't have enough tanks/heals to run 2 10's.
New guildies (assuming they are experienced players) should have asked about raiding before even joining up. Either that or their expectations weren't managed by those who invited them to join.Posted July 28, 2010 at 10:28 AM by Scathbais

Good points. Ther does seem to be a 'recruit everyone' type of thing going on. I always ask what they want to do, and point them at our website to have a read before actually inviting anyone.
And yes, we recently had two members leave, but politely and not because they couldn't raid.Posted July 28, 2010 at 11:39 AM by Rhiadana
