Welcome to Azeroth, my child. Welcome to your destiny. - Unknown
Alas, I knew this day would come...

...eventually. In fact, I knew it was coming when Wrath of the Lich King released. I simply did not have the same interest in the game as I did previously, and even the promise of the DK class, new gear, and leveling up a profession were not enough to keep me interested. Thus, I quit playing WoW about a week or so after the expansion.
As some of the Den members may be aware of, when I accepted a new job in another state, I decided it was also a good time to play WoW again, as I have time to kill at night and on weekends. This worked well for the first 2 months or so, but lately I have just not been able to stay interested. I am not interested in PvP, leveling Alts, professions, the AH, raiding, heroics, achievements, or even standing around and talking with people in-game.
I feel it is time to start a new chapter of my life, a WoW-free chapter. In fact, it is probably going to be an MMO-free chapter of my life. I miss my family horribly, and I dread the times at night when I have nothing to really do. I have other things that interest me however, and I will embark on them. I need to advance professionally and personally.
I left the guild I was in over the weekend, as nobody really seemed interested in running heroics or anything, all they wanted to do was raid 25-man Ulduar, which they never did anyway because nobody ever showed up for the scheduled times.
I feel that I have outgrown this game now, and need to focus on other things, mainly real life. WoW does not hold my interest anymore. I look fondly back upon the great things I have accomplished in this game and the in-game friends I have made. The Den has always been a place I call home when surfing the 'net, and I could always count on great information and great conversation here. Many of the regulars I came to know here are no longer around, but many of the new members and contributors have more than sufficiently taken their place.
Thank you, Blizzard, for the great 2 1/2 years of gaming. Thank you, Warlock's Den, for the great 2 years of fun and friendship and making me feel welcome, no matter what ridiculous opinions I often spouted off about.
I may drop by from time to time and say hello, but my WoW days are done when my subscription is up next week.
Thank you for a great time and good luck to all of you in your future gaming and other endeavors.

I always have such an odd reaction when I read that someone else is quitting the game...I feel both sad and envious. Sad because it reminds me that I, too, will someday tire of something I enjoy currently, and envious because although I've only been playing for a year, even a "casual" level of commitment can be wearisome at times and I wish to leave it all behind.
I admire your honesty and your strength to do what is best for you and your family. Best of luck with everything!

Good luck!
I've quit twice, but came back the last time as the real life friends I started playing with (we leveled from 0 to 70 together in BC) all got back into the same guild. Then recently we all left to start our own 10 man guild with hopes that 3.2 will make things more interesting for 5-10 man groups. You gotta have some hook to keep you interested. For me, it's chatting with buddies while you smite things online. I agree with you -- the grind, dailies, profession leveling all really seem to wear harder than ever on me since I started playing about two years ago. If I didn't have my weekly night with good friends that are scattered around the country and would never get to talk to otherwise on a regular basis, I would have quit for good as well.Posted July 30, 2009 at 02:02 PM by Malasada

Thank you for all of the well-wishing and nice comments. I may not be quitting WoW entirely, still not sure yet. I do know that I will not be playing nearly as much as I have been. I might log in to do some fishing or cooking, maybe play my pally, something along those lines. I have a week to decide if I want to add another month or two to my sub.
In any case, the game does not hold the same interest it did in the past. Will anything change that? Not sure. Patch 3.2 is out in a week or two, that might help but who knows.
I will still be around here from time to time regardless.
Thanks again.
