Pre-emptive QQ
5/19/09-3.1.2 goes live.
5/20/09-Ghostcrawler: "We made a mistake by having immolate buff Chaos Bolt's Damage, we are hotfixing Chaos Bolt to let it only benefit from Shadow and Flame while Immolate is up."
OK, look, I really don't get how every warlock can see this and the issues conflag had last patch and say "YOU KNOW BLIZZ, THIS IS OP" on PTR feedback and then something goes live and gets nerfed less than a day later.
This is yet another. Highest DPCT spell in WoW just got buffed last patch is getting further buffed.
Do you see the PVP implications? Or am I a genius with incredible foresight?
I don't think so.
It's really amazing how everybody sees this from miles away and it somehow goes live anyway. I guess they want to waste their time on hotfixes.
At this point as per this post:

They aren't concerned with giving you an out. They aren't concerned with Destro's DPS being more consistent in PVE (I don't know if they pay attention to PVE at all).
They are concerned with making money, and buying time until they develop a new MMO that will cost more money. I really, in many, many ways on many levels, wish somebody would be able to pull anything off with the polish that WoW has just so that they would perhaps listen or at least totally ignore us.
I honestly think Ming runs their dev teams.......

I must agree with this. I just picked up pvp on my warlock yet again and i find destro overwhelmingly entertaining. Just so much control in the destro tree that im finding 1v1 duels so easy.
I was not around to see the pre-nerf conflag damage but if this is going to be anything like that then it's a sad day for warlocks. You cant buff something just to nerf it a few hours later. BG's are not arena and should not be treated as such.Posted May 19, 2009 at 01:41 PM by Emmcee

I thought the same thing when I read this in the patch notes on MMO Champion this morning. I can hardly believe that a fully talented Fire and Brimstone will provide the 25% crit chance buff to Conflagrate immediately. The conflag crit in arenas is negligible since that will get partially negated, anyway. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but RNG is still RNG.
The problem is with Chaos Bolt......It's benefiting from nearly every scaling talent in the destro tree as it is now and blows through some immunities and shields (CoS, Sacred Shield, PW:S). So it reeks of being similar to what happened with Conflag.
They are further buffing the damage on Chaos Bolt by having Immolate up on the target. They had to do this for PVE as Chaos Bolt wasn't worth using in PVE as things stood. So they are making this change while ignoring PVP....
Which is what ultimately determines nerfs anyway. Especially since many rogues aren't wearing more than 500 resilience in an arena. They will get murdered, which is only allowed to be done by melee in melee range.
I can't tell you how hard we hit ALREADY in a destro build. If you line up your CD's right you can literally take just about anybody from at least 80-0 without a crit.....especially rogues.
So just imagine that if you Cast the Chaos Bolt while immolate is up, you snap Conflag like a Shatter-combo while the Chaos Bolt is flying and the conflag crits for 5K and the Chaos Bolt for 12K. That means that what amounts to 1 cast just did a TON of damage.....and if your Shadowfury and Shadowburn are off CD, you have another 5-6K in the bank (Shadowburn's on SnF now).....

\What was said may be true about having too much damage is very little of time, but it also relies on the player. Not every single person out there that plays a Warlock is going to be able to master juggling all their cooldowns.
In additon all the QQ about Warlocks being OP and doing too much damage, that only seems to hold if Warlocks are to get the "jump" on other players. Do I need to go through every meele class and their ablility to interupt, refelct, or resist based on gear and/or scaling talent trees. Do you think its fair that Warlocks have STACK resilience and suffer in other attributes just to have a decent chance against Rogues. Why not force Rogues to stop being lazy and stack more resilience instead of steathling over and stunlocking Warlocks to death. Same goes with Paladins and their constant use of the aggervating Pally Bubble while spec'd for ret.
Everyone can QQ Warlocks until the game becomes just another MMO game like Ultima or EQ. The fact that Blizzard will never have a balance for Warlocks will never go away. Personally, I'm tired of all the changes that happen so fast as well. It grows old and tiresome but I know if I take the time to roll another class and build up reputation, etc, etc. Blizzard will just "nerf" that class for being to OP.
Its a no win situation for Warlocks, either take the punches and roll with them, roll another class or find another game to play.
I hate to sound so harsh but there is nothing we can do about Blizzard's poor desing and choices about our class. PVE will always suffer due to PVP. 14 hours or so and nothing yet. Maybe it will stick.
I four shotted a ret pally in WSG who thought he would burst my butt off after blowing HoJ and Repentance on me. He was 4/5 T7.5 with a Betrayer. I sacced my void and he had to have wondered wtf was going on. When the stuns wore off I was at about 12K health (he procced Nether prot, too). He promptly was Shadowfuried, then Feared, then Immolated (which crit for 3K), then Chaos Bolted and I pulled the typical Conflag "shatter combo" while the Chaos Bolt was airborne.
6K Conflag crit, 12K Chaos Bolt crit, 5K SBurn crit.

So they are nerfing it more than it was pre-buff? As now it only will get the SnF bonus if Immolate is up? Lame.
Question: How are some of you getting 12k crits with Chaos Bolt? Mine only crit for about 7k. What is your spellpower at? Granted I don't have the bet gear, but in my PVP gear I am sitting at about 1750sp.Posted May 20, 2009 at 05:27 PM by Supernex

I only have about 2200 spell power in my pvp gear, Poof. CoE does wonders to people though....lol.
