To easy for hardcore?
First blog entry, mini rant incoming.
I like to think of myself as a casual raider, but in the last few months i have realised that i am in fact not. I have been playing way to much wow as i have nothing better to do with my time at the moment. I have joined one of the top guilds on our server and we raid Wednesday/Sunday/Monday 25man at 8pm-12pm and 10man in between. Our guild puts a lot of time into researching boss fights and how to down hard modes, and we also spend a lot of time attempting this.
The mini rant:
I have been reading a lot on the forums how people like the new changes with 10man loot being very good and how they can now get the best loot from simply doing 10man raids, but blizzard has simply made it way to easy for people like me who play the game 'to much'. Some people wont agree with this but i know some people are in the same situation as me, i will give examples.
My guild is having this Wednesday off from raiding so we decided to go do the new ToC boss on 10man to get a feel for it. So we one shot the first 3 bosses because they are pretty much free loot once you know whats going on and we get to the 4th boss. Our main tank says that he thinks there might be like 2 bosses that have to die at the same time, that is all we know about this fight. We start it and put 1 and 1 together. There is a dark portal and a light portal. A dark boss and a light boss. So half our raid presses the dark and starts killing the light boss and the other half does the same on the other side. Long story short half our raid dies at 100%, we keep going to get the feel for the fight and we down him. WITH 5 PEOPLE DEAD AT 100%.
This just isn't right! The loot that drops is 232 loot which is better then Hard Mode 10man Ulduar, which isn't this easy. Apparently Blizzard has made the hardmodes in ToC very hard to complete, but making it so you get 232 loot from a boss that is simply, VERY easy.
These fights may be hard for the casual raider, but they are very easy for people like me who play all the time and have a decent guild. This just doesn't seem fair that people can get gear better then my gear with little effort just because Blizzard wants everyone to experience the game.
I understand that people cant play as much as i do, but can you also understand that we should at least feel like our efforts in studying boss fights was for a reason.
That being said, the 5minutes we did have on the fight was very fun

Hmm...
yeah, ToC normal is really easy, on both 10 & 25. Would be nice to have more of a challenge there, but it seems we have to wait for the hard modes for that. Don't forget btw that if you do have 25 ulduar hard mode gear you are way overgeared for ToC 10.
But really, the rant about the good loot is stupid. ToC is the next tier of raid and should drop upgrades. Thats just how this game works, new content is released that gives better items.Posted August 27, 2009 at 11:59 AM by lilsteele

World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums - Val'kyr Twins Bug Fixes
In other words, it wasn't supposed to that easy, it won't be that easy going forward.Quote:The following bug fixes to Val'kyr Twins were just deployed, and they will increase the overall difficulty of the encounter.
- Surge of Light and Surge of Darkness were not being cast properly on Normal difficulties.
- Light Vortex was doing less damage than Dark Vortex.
Along with those two major bug fixes, we also increased the rate with which the Concentrated Light and Concentrated Darkness spawns.
That's not to say that AC isn't very easy for the gear but then again half of Ulduar was pretty easy for the gear as well. I think that based on your kind of play you should be measuring yourself against the heroic version.Posted August 28, 2009 at 09:31 PM by duffry

I take it you didn't play in Vanilla. As soon as BC hit it was pretty much free epics for everyone. Blizz was losing causal players, because it was insanely hard to get Epics. Even though it seems like it's welfare epics now you still have to do some work for them. Back in Vanilla, you needed all 40 people to raid (until people were geared out) The gear then was also very itemized. it sucked being horde and seeing paladin gear drop most of the night. Believe it or not, WoW isn't really geared towards the hard core raiders. but more the causal player. Like an above poster said your rant about gear is pretty invalid.Posted August 29, 2009 at 07:09 PM by Mollytov

I think that you may be missing the point. The raids in this expansion are not meant for the hardcore crowd, not even the 25 man versions. They are meant to be approachable for most players rather than only those who raid 4+ nights a week.
To cater to those players blizzard made hard modes which create additional challenge and yield better loot. You say that you are in one of the best guilds on your server and that you guys have extensive experience with Ulduar hard modes...and you did regular difficulty without hard modes so of course it was easy. You are playing below your gear and skill level. When you can repeat that performance on a hard mode with no idea how to do it going in then you can say that it is too easy.Posted September 02, 2009 at 04:55 AM by Sasztam

I understand what you mean, but just because you decided to put more time and effort in the game doesn't give you the right to say more casual players shouldn't get as good gear.
ToT 25 is easy and it should be. Everyone deserves to see the content. If you want a challenge, do the hardmodes.
Something that surprises me is that most peopple that complain about instances being too easy, never did even 1 hard mode in 25 man raids.
When you cleared them all, you can claim it's too easy.Posted September 04, 2009 at 07:57 AM by Benituccio

So I understand both parties - you're annoyed that you're not being rewarded enough for your hardcore approach to this game, mainly because blizzard yields phat-ass-epix to every newcomer. (I can only agree, however I'm not hardcore)
And the opposing party is trying to convince him, that WoW is meant to be casual and approachable by everyone.
I can, as previously said, only agree on both point of views.
I'm of the opinion that everyone (the majority at least) should be able to play the game as it's meant to be and try every aspect of it - it's created for entertainment, and entertainment it should bring.
However, I'm dreading about the skill level of this game at the moment though. It's too easy, not just easy, but TOO easy to be geared up. Last night I saw a DK (yay for faceroll class) in 4 parts 8.5 and greens from lvling :<
But the thing about hardmodes is - it's not fun. Of course, it's more challenging but basically the fights are all the same, just with a few twists. And afterall, the fights have become so boring compared to some of the The Burning Crusade and vanilla fights (Vashj anyone?)
And it's not rewarding to get ie. 20 more SP/crit whatever, because you've spent a week trying to down a hardmode.
Removing attunements completely from the game was a no-go and I'd love to see a challenging new raidinstance (WITH ATTUNEMENT to prevent everyone from coming) which is not just the old fights in a new and revamped edition.Posted September 07, 2009 at 11:27 AM by Tumlingen
