I finally completed my Loremaster project in December (then they nerfed the requirements!).

I ended up doing a lot of great quests. Northrend has 875 that have to be done for the achievement. The only one I haven't gotten around to yet is the fighter-plane one in Icecrown (buggy when I tried it). Still not sure which is my favorite, but I'm working on criteria for a great quest. Not all quests will meet these:

  • Cool scenery/effects: A really good one for this was the baby-murloc quest in the Borean Tundra. Another would be the slay-the-evil-eyeball quest in Icecrown.
  • Great story: THere were several of these, including the Wrathgate series, and the very sinister Matthias Lehner series in Icecrown. The Bridenbrad series left me cold; too insipid for me.
  • Interesting challenge: Most quests involve clicking on so many things, looting so many things, or killing so many beasties. The vehicle quests offer some alternatives, and there are some that are just plain amazing, like Army of the Damned, which also shows you just how pointless a dungeon-crawl approach is in a war like this one. There are a few fun timed quests like the first Kungaloosh quest in Sholazar, where you actually have to focus!

I've been grinding a ton of dailies lately and have developed some preferences there.

  • Variety: Thank heavens the Dalaran cooking quest changes... most days, or I'd be totally insane by now. I'm learning to hate the Sons of Hodir more with every Brittle Earth Elemental I kill.
  • Challenge: Doing the Troll Patrol in less than 20 min. was a fun challenge at first, especially before I'd done most of the component quests! I had to be careful to learn where all the questgivers were and to deal with the challenging timed potion-component quest. But today, I did the whole sequence in ten minutes, and it was no longer as much fun.
  • Scenery/Story: These still matter some how. I still like that darned Rescue the Baby Wolvar quest from the walruses in South Dragonblight. The song quests from the Oracles are kind of nifty too.

    Grats on the achievement !
Another quest I really enjoyed was in Howling Fjord when you get to ride a flaming harpoon as you are being launched across the fjord to the other side.

Two things that helped with the Alchemists's Apprentice: the detailed list of where the components are from the wowhead comments about the quest, and putting my demonic circle in front of his darned cauldron (facing it, of course). The cooldown on our teleport is only 15 seconds, so we could theoretically use it for every ingredient!

Great Story: I'm in the midst of the Thorim questline in Storm Peaks and it's been pretty neato so far. I was enthralled with Thorim and King Jokkum talking, and all of a sudden a hunter tried to kill me. Almost tinkled me pants, but got him in a little bit and went back to watching =). Good storyline.
