All Good Things Must Come to an End

It's time for me to move on past the World of Warcraft. I sat down just a little over three years ago and created my warlock with no idea that he'd last this long, let alone that he'd get exalted reputation with 29 factions, be part of a raid that killed Illidan, or spend about 7,500 gold on a fancy ring.
The Warlock's Den has been a big part of what's made the game fun, providing me with up-to-date information on the latest raiding builds and rotations, demented warlock humor, and an opportunity to blog. I've always like makin' stuff, from avatars and sigs to guides, so writing has been fun, and the weekly deadline (usually) worked well for me. Thanks to all of you guys for the great discussions in forums and for reading and commenting on this blog!

I've canceled my account, but still have a little over a week before it closes, so I'm trying to figure out what Warpy has left to do before I retire him. I've explored the whole world and done all but a few quests. Should he:
I'm more concerned about where to retire him. Other warlocks in the Den have stressed the importance of this decision. So I've got a lot of options for Warpy:

I've canceled my account, but still have a little over a week before it closes, so I'm trying to figure out what Warpy has left to do before I retire him. I've explored the whole world and done all but a few quests. Should he:
- Level all his tradeskills to 450?
- Collect 5000 achievement points, since that's a nice, round number?
- Finish grinding the Oracles to exalted because they are so much less obnoxious than the Frenzyheart?
- Sell off all the junk in my bags/banks/alts' bags and banks?
- Go get that darned spiderling pet out of LBRS?
I'm more concerned about where to retire him. Other warlocks in the Den have stressed the importance of this decision. So I've got a lot of options for Warpy:
- Back at Northshire Abbey where he got started (although he was in a terrible hurry to leave)?
- In Stormwind, to be ready for the next expansion if I come back for ten more levels?
- Or in one of his favorite zones: Zangarmarsh, Duskwood, Ungoro Crater, Icecrown?
- In the Cantrips & Crows Tavern, where I wanted to move him once I'd pried the Delicious Chocolate Cake recipe from the Kirin Tor?
- In some spot off the beaten path like the Shatterspear Village between Darkshore and Felwood?

Good Luck in all you do.
I am also considering retiring from the game. It is a decision that I have been playing in my mind for quite awhile. I have yet to make the decision final but we shall see in the near future.Posted March 02, 2009 at 11:18 AM by AballahSon

I was/am sad to see you go, Warpy. I hope you find happiness in the real world! If you are ever in mine and B's part of the world, please give us a shout!Posted March 02, 2009 at 06:08 PM by Jive

Sad to see you going Warpy, even if you are Alliance. Your weekly blogs have almost always been thought provoking and informative. I hope that the next virtual world you find gives you as much fun as the last one.
I'll vote for keeping the little lock on a hill company. If not then do it like a man, storming Orgrimar.Posted March 03, 2009 at 03:18 AM by nitromoose

I second the notion of a one-man assault on orgrimmar.Posted March 03, 2009 at 07:11 AM by Sasztam

Leaving WoW is something that crosses my mind from time to time, wondering where my personal journey in Azeroth will end.
I commend your strength, as leaving behind such a large part of one's life is never easy. Even though it's "just a game" - real people play, interact and make it an investment of time, like anything we could chose to do in the real world.
You were an asset to the Den, Warpy, and your words and presence will be very much missed. As ever, I will say the door will always be open to you, should you decide to return.
I wish you the very best life has to offer, and much luck for the future.
As for where to retire him, my first thought on hearing your news was of The Little Lock on the Hill. Seems I wasn't the only one.
Be well Warpy!Posted March 03, 2009 at 08:15 AM by Vaell

Warpy, It is a heavy loss to the Warlock Community that you should leave. But the WoW Reaper waits for none and silently lets each person know when it is his or her time to leave. I trust the other virtual worlds, and the real one too, recognize how helpful a person you are.
Good luck on all your future endeavors, and feel free to drop in and say hi every now and then!Posted March 03, 2009 at 09:24 AM by Pernicious

Good luck and enjoy the time you will have in the real world;) Luckily our characters stay even if we do quit for a while, so in a few months or whenever perhaps you will feel and itch to dot something and come back.Posted March 03, 2009 at 09:58 AM by Belthezor

Sorry to see you go Warpy.
As for where to retire him, maybe have him join the Little Lock on the Hill as a permanent companion, mentor, and guardian to one of the most renown Warlocks here at the Den.
Edit: Just read Vaell's comment. Vaell, you're not the only one now

On September 1, 2008 you wrote one of my favorite blog entries. It was titled RAIDing, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly....
This paragraph below is the summary from that article:
"Obviously, the pros outweigh the cons for me because I raid three or four nights a week and have for a long time. There's lots of alternatives in endgame WoW, including PvP and role-play, and lots of different kinds of raiding, about five tiers worth in The Burning Crusade, and ten- and twenty-five-toon versions of every raid instance in Wrath of the Lich King. I'm definitely looking forward to some new and different wipes!
"
I never spoke with you or played the game with you. I only knew that the individual behind the blog was entertaining and well versed in the ways of the warlock. I had people on my own server quote from your blog as I sought to make my own lock better.
It took me 19 montsh to level him to 70 because of my work schedule. It was on October the 1, 2008 that I reached that vaunted hieght, and I am glad to say the The Den and Warpy were with me every step of the way. My words won't mean much, but I will step in where Warpy steps out. For the frst time, I feel compelled to subscribe to The Den. To give something back for what it has given me.
Heres to some new and different wipes...
Thank you, Warpy.

P.s. Little Lock on the Hill is appropriate...Posted March 03, 2009 at 06:29 PM by Whistle
