 <br />
<font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">It&#8217;s not a guide for your level 10 Blood Elf, nor is it intended to discuss the finer aspects of theorycrafting or min/maxing. If you&#8217;re already sporting full </font></font><font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=-176" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Triumphant Gul'dan's Regalia</font></font></a></u></font><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">, you&#8217;re unlikely to find anything here that you don&#8217;t know, but if the prospect of rolling on </font></font><font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37884" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Azure Cloth Bindings</font></font></a></u></font><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2"> makes you cackle in wicked glee, then you&#8217;re in the right place. Everything in this guide is, if not exactly correct, at least not broadly wrong. Follow it till you feel comfortable enough to toss it aside and mentor other up-and-coming Warlocks.</font></font><br />
 <br />
<br />
 <font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font color="DarkOrange"><font size="2"><b>What is a Destruction Warlock?</b></font></font></font><br />
 <br />
 <font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2"><i>A Destruction (aka Destro) Warlock is a Warlock who has chosen his talents primarily from the Destruction talent tree. </i>Typically Destruction Warlocks have at least 51 points in this tree, taking points all the way down to </font></font><font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=50796" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Chaos Bolt</font></font></a></u></font><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">. We will talk about different Destruction &#8216;builds&#8217; (arrangements of talent points) later. This guide will not concern itself with hybrid builds (arrangements of talent points that take fewer than 51 points in the Destruction tree).</font></font><br />
 <br />
 <font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Destruction Warlocks are like Fire Mages, except whereas Mages played with matches when they were kids, Destruction Warlocks played with fire-spewing demons. That is to say, a Destro Warlock&#8217;s damaging spells are primarily<i> fire based</i> (primarily, but not all&#8230;)</font></font><br />
 <br />
<br />
 <font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font color="DarkOrange"><font size="2"><b>Why raid as a Destruction Warlock?</b></font></font></font><br />
 <br />
 <font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">You&#8217;re a Warlock and you like to destroy&#8230; live the dream. OK&#8230; so you like to curse, drain and command demonic minions as well&#8230; so what&#8217;s different about Destruction? Why become a Destruction Warlock instead of, say, an Affliction Warlock?</font></font><br />
 <ul><li><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Destruction Warlocks are currently (as of 3.2) &#8216;top of the damage meters&#8217; (in the theoretical simulations known as &#8216;simcrafting&#8217;). The popularity of the build is testament to the fact that <i>it does very well in a raid environment</i>.</font></font></li>
</ul> <ul><li><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Destruction Warlocks are <i>very good at &#8216;burst&#8217; damage.</i> That is, we have they have the ability to deal large amounts of damage quickly (though not as quick as some other classes). In contrast, Affliction reaches it&#8217;s damage dealing peak much more slowly and Demonology builds typically aren&#8217;t able to reach the same damage dealing heights.</font></font></li>
</ul> <ul><li><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">As you gear up and become more powerful, you&#8217;ll find that <i>Destruction scales nicely</i>. You&#8217;ll do just as well in heroic instances and older raid content as you will in ToGC, since you&#8217;ll deal significant damage even when instance bosses are dying before they can get off a &#8216;how dare you challenge me, puny Warlock&#8217; emote.</font></font></li>
</ul> <font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">As a trade-off, Destruction does not bring the same level of benefit (other than the pain you cause the boss) to your raid as Demonology, nor does it have the mana-efficiency or survivability of Affliction.</font></font><br />
<br />
<br />
 <font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font color="DarkOrange"><font size="2"><b>What types of Destruction Warlock are there?</b></font></font></font><br />
 <br />
 <font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">There are good ones and bad ones (well&#8230; evil ones and &#8216;more&#8217; evil ones), but the vast majority of them will fall into one of two builds: 3/13/55 or 0/13/58 (read: number of talent points in Affliction/Demonology/Destruction). In fact, these builds are actually very similar and are not significantly different in how you play them, they just confer different benefits.</font></font><br />
 <br />
 <font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#IcZcu0h0hZVbGVrcuVoAcst" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">3/13/55</font></font></a></u></font><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">: The key to this build are the three points in </font></font><i><font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=18176" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Suppression</font></font></a></u></font></i><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2"> that reduce the +hit you need to get from gear to reach the hit cap (more on this later). It&#8217;s a great choice for Destruction Warlocks who are just starting to raid since it&#8217;s unlikely you&#8217;ll have the gear you need to be &#8216;capped&#8217; for&#8230;</font></font><br />
 <br />
 <font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#IZcu0h0hZVbGVdcuVsAfct" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">0/13/58</font></font></a></u></font><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">:  This is typically a build chosen for higher end raiding.  It sacrifices the three points in </font></font><font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=18176" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Suppression</font></font></a></u></font><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2"> in exchange for </font></font><i><font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=54118" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Improved Soul Leech</font></font></a></u></font></i><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">.   This makes sense since at higher levels of raiding, you will have more access to gear with sufficient +hit and can use that flexibility to improve mana-efficiency (and thereby the damage you can do between </font></font><font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=1454" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Life Tap</font></font></a></u></font><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">) for you and your raid.</font></font><br />

 <font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">When you&#8217;re starting out, stick with one of these builds and you&#8217;ll do fine.</font></font><br />
 <br />
<br />
 <font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font color="DarkOrange"><font size="2"><b>OK, got my spec, now what about Glyphs?</b></font></font></font><br />
 <br />
<font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">There are only four major glyphs you should be interested in as a Destruction Warlock: </font></font><font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?item=42454" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Glyph of Conflagrate</font></font></a></u></font><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">, </font></font><font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?item=42453" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Glyph of Incinerate</font></font></a></u></font><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">, </font></font><font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?item=42464" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Glyph of Immolate</font></font></a></u></font><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">, and </font></font><font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45785" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Glyph of Life Tap</font></font></a></u></font><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">.  <font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">If you&#8217;ve raided as an Affliction or Demonology Warlock before, you&#8217;ll be pleased to know that although the degrees of importance are different, the actual stat priorities aren&#8217;t.   If you&#8217;re just gearing out your Warlock, you&#8217;re going to want to focus on a few things in this order:</font></font><br />
 <ul><li><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2"><a href="http://www.wowwiki.com/Spell_hit" target="_blank">Hit Rating</a> (Hit): This is the <i>#1 stat</i> you need to be concerned about when you start raiding. Hit, basically, is your chance not to miss. If you are low on hit, your &quot;would-have-been-if-only&quot; 15k </font></font><font color="#0000ff"><u><a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=50796" target="_blank"><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">Chaos Bolt</font></font></a></u></font><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2"> will sail harmlessly over the bosses level 83 head (or heads depending on who you&#8217;re fighting). In order to avoid the shame of this happening, you need to reach the &#8216;Hit Cap&#8217;.</font></font></li>
</ul><blockquote><font face="Calibri, sans-serif"><font size="2">The &#8216;Hit Cap&#8217; is the amount of Hit you need to achieve a 0% miss chance. This will change depending on certain factors (ask your buddy the Draenei Shadow Priest why he gets invited to all the raids), but when it comes to the basics, there are really only two numbers you need to be concerned with: 368 and 446.</font></font><br />

Once you reach the Hit Cap, Spell Power is the thing you want most of. In fact, the more of it the better. Now here&#8217;s the irony: although Spell Power is the king of stats&#8230; you don&#8217;t need to worry too much about it. Of course, things get more complicated by the time we get to...</font></font><br />

If you have to choose between a cloak with 50 Haste or a cloak with 50 Crit, you&#8217;re more often than not better off choosing the Haste cloak. The difficulty comes when the first cloak also has 50 Spell Power and the second has 75&#8230;</font></font></li>
