Power Auras, Sound, and tracking Decimation/Molten Core procs

I used to use Necrosis. And I found that auditory triggers are MUCH more helpful to me than visual ones--I tend to weed out visual graphics just because I'm focusing on other stuff. But sounds I pay attention to.

However, I don't use Necrosis anymore. But as a (preferably) demonology lock, I have Decimation procs to track, and I miss the booming "Shadow Trance!" sound because it was an awesome way to let me know I had a free instant-cast shadow bolt.

So I went looking around, and I found Power Auras Classic.

It's a great addon that most people use to make glowy graphics around their character in the middle of the screen when certain buffs proc, fall off, or do something that needs to be tracked.

However, it seems less common that people take advantage of the sound capability. And if I had to guess, it's because the default sounds are stupid or already in use...ie, who wants the chat whisper sound as their auditory trigger? You won't think to cast a Soul Fire, you'll glance at the chat pane to see who whispered you! Or if you hear the leveling DING, you'll look around to see what n00b hunter brought in their non-80 pet to a raid!

So, I went looking for better sounds. And I found some. :)

First thing I discovered is that you can nick the Necrosis "Shadow Trance!" sound. You'll need to download Necrosis somewhere and extract it (no need to install it). You'll find the Shadow Trance sound in its files.

Next, go to your Addons folder. Find your Power Auras folder (you can install it via Curse if you don't have it), and within that find the Sound folder. Paste your Necrosis "Shadow Trance!" mp3 clip in there.

If you're like me though, there's not just one proc you'll want to track with sound. We have free shadow bolt procs in Affliction, Destruction, and via glyph. We have Decimation procs. We have Molten Core procs. So you'll need more sounds.

I went hunting, and I found freesound :: home page. I did a search for .mp3 files under 2 seconds long, and I found these, which I think would be good for auditory triggers:

freesound :: view sample :: lightsaber4.mp3
freesound :: view sample :: shock.mp3
freesound :: view sample :: press02.mp3
freesound :: view sample :: press01.mp3
freesound :: view sample :: Dave.mp3
freesound :: view sample :: Systen Online.mp3
freesound :: view sample :: Get in the Car 1.mp3
freesound :: view sample :: echo002.mp3
freesound :: view sample :: System off line.mp3
freesound :: view sample :: disgusted.mp3
freesound :: view sample :: magnents_bouncing_on_drums024.flac
freesound :: view sample :: Nice One.mp3

There's a lot of sounds on there that were too soft, too liable to be lost in vent chatter, too odd (lots and lots of fart noises...so if that's your cup of tea, go browse!), or too strident (you want to hit your spells, not leap out of your chair). I tried to pick ones that were A) distinct and unique, and B) warlock-y to some greater or lesser extent.

So if you decide to use one of those or something else, download it to your computer (you'll need to sign up for a free account but it's just a message board signup like here), then put it in the Sounds folder of your Power Auras addon.

Note: You need to do this while WoW is closed. Otherwise Power Auras won't use the sound so you can hear it. Also, the sound file needs to be MP3.

Once you have your sounds, log into WoW, and type /powa to bring up the Power Auras Classic Config. Then you'll want to add your triggers, and specify the name of the sound file you want to use on your sound tab.

I've included some you can Import below but you'll still need to go to the sound tab and specify your sound.

That needs to be one line when you use the Import function, so you may want to copy and paste to Notepad to make sure it's all one line.

I got most of these from here.
One last note - as you make these, you'll need to exit the Power Aura config screen to actually test them to see if they work. :) And as I said before, you'll need to *close* WoW to put new Sounds in the appropriate folder, otherwise you won't hear them.

Hello fellow locks :)

I've stumbled my way through the "post your UI" thread, with all the cool UIs that are modded so heavily (to me) that I don't know how to tell one mod from another, and I'm having trouble finding a good chat addon. People have probably mentioned it, but I'm unable to find it in the noise.

I'm looking for chat that A) is placeable where I want it, B) looses the clunky Blizz skin and up/down arrows, and C) shows class by color and level.

I have the impression I might need more than one mod to do this...but which ones?

Help (and screenshots of what it looks like under whatever mods you're using) would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Button timers error

I have tried numerous different spell cool down timers and keep going back to button timers as my favorite.

I can see them better for some reason.

The problem I am having is everyone so often I get an "interface action failed due to an addon error" in my logs

It is intermittent but I wonder if this stopped a proc from occurring so I am trying to get rid of it.

I have made multiple ui changes and it seems to occur only when I have buttontimers loaded.

Sometimes I can get it to occur by using my wand.

Anyway, has anyone else seen this problem? Or, the best place to start troubleshooting this?

You would not believe how many ui changes I have gone through.

At the moment I am using btex skins and bartender. I have tried quartz, need to know, and forte for bars. I have tried sui and nui and sui is pretty close to what I want without the party or user frames.

What I have is pretty good at the moment but it is hard to see conflag and chaos bolt come off of cooldown.

I am a clicker and use the buttons with the timer buttons.

Thanks

I'm trying to figure out how to create a macro for calling out incoming warnings for battle grounds. The idea is one macro to will announcing my location and say incoming. Saves me time from trying to type it out when I've got players wanting to reduce my hp to 0 :<
The problem is I'm not terribly good at macros. I've found a macro that will find my position and say it in my chat window but I don't know how to make it announce over /bg or or raid, or whatever channel I need.

/script local px,py=GetPlayerMapPosition("player");SendChatMessa ge(format(GetZoneText(),px*100,py*100))

Is it even possible to make it do that?
