Yet another destro spec?

Thanks to a comment by Emarisea, in fizboz new destro lock guide...

Thanks to a comment by Emarisea, in fizboz new destro lock guide , I came to consider the following spec:

Profiler - Wowhead

basically the idea was to get rid from soul leech but not putting the talent points in suppression. The only option left that would directly increase dps was to put all five points in the demonology tree in order to get three points in Unholy Power (= 12% increased Imp's fire bolt damage). I found it interesting since it gives you the possibility to replace ISL by directly dps increasing talents.

Here is what simcraft says, comparing this build with the normal ISL build, using best in slot T9 gear:

win! The demo lock is just there to provide the spellpower buff.
Note that if you use more average gear (in particular my gear which is mainly ilvl 245 with 4pc T9) the ranking is different. In my case the "normal" build is 50 dps better. The Unholy Power build gets better as you reduce the fight length. Here's the same result as above, using a 200 second fight instead of 300 seconds:

We can also redo it using 3.3 mechanics, now again for a 300 seconds default fight:

Bottom line: No need to respec right now, but it's nice to see that there's an alternative to the default builds that neither have suppression nor ISL. I think the breaking point is when about half your gear is ilvl 258... anyways it seems to be something to keep in mind once you start getting stuff from ICC.

All simulations done using simulationcraft 322.7 on a mac, using the BiS profiles available from them plus the wowhead profile I linked above.

Looking forward to any helpful comments/suggestions & corrections.

----------------------------------------------------

This guide has been put together for the Warlock who’s just hit 80 and is looking for a simple, no-frills guide to raiding Destruction.

It’s not a guide for your level 10 Blood Elf, nor is it intended to discuss the finer aspects of theorycrafting or min/maxing. If you’re already sporting full Triumphant Gul'dan's Regalia, you’re unlikely to find anything here that you don’t know, but if the prospect of rolling on Azure Cloth Bindings makes you cackle in wicked glee, then you’re in the right place. Everything in this guide is, if not exactly correct, at least not broadly wrong. Follow it till you feel comfortable enough to toss it aside and mentor other up-and-coming Warlocks.

What is a Destruction Warlock?

A Destruction (aka Destro) Warlock is a Warlock who has chosen his talents primarily from the Destruction talent tree. Typically Destruction Warlocks have at least 51 points in this tree, taking points all the way down to Chaos Bolt. We will talk about different Destruction ‘builds’ (arrangements of talent points) later. This guide will not concern itself with hybrid builds (arrangements of talent points that take fewer than 51 points in the Destruction tree).

Destruction Warlocks are like Fire Mages, except whereas Mages played with matches when they were kids, Destruction Warlocks played with fire-spewing demons. That is to say, a Destro Warlock’s damaging spells are primarily fire based (primarily, but not all…)

Why raid as a Destruction Warlock?

You’re a Warlock and you like to destroy… live the dream. OK… so you like to curse, drain and command demonic minions as well… so what’s different about Destruction? Why become a Destruction Warlock instead of, say, an Affliction Warlock?

Destruction Warlocks are currently (as of 3.2) ‘top of the damage meters’ (in the theoretical simulations known as ‘simcrafting’). The popularity of the build is testament to the fact that it does very well in a raid environment.

Destruction Warlocks are very good at ‘burst’ damage. That is, we have they have the ability to deal large amounts of damage quickly (though not as quick as some other classes). In contrast, Affliction reaches it’s damage dealing peak much more slowly and Demonology builds typically aren’t able to reach the same damage dealing heights.

As you gear up and become more powerful, you’ll find that Destruction scales nicely. You’ll do just as well in heroic instances and older raid content as you will in ToGC, since you’ll deal significant damage even when instance bosses are dying before they can get off a ‘how dare you challenge me, puny Warlock’ emote.

As a trade-off, Destruction does not bring the same level of benefit (other than the pain you cause the boss) to your raid as Demonology, nor does it have the mana-efficiency or survivability of Affliction.

What types of Destruction Warlock are there?

There are good ones and bad ones (well… evil ones and ‘more’ evil ones), but the vast majority of them will fall into one of two builds: 3/13/55 or 0/13/58 (read: number of talent points in Affliction/Demonology/Destruction). In fact, these builds are actually very similar and are not significantly different in how you play them, they just confer different benefits.

3/13/55: The key to this build are the three points in Suppression that reduce the +hit you need to get from gear to reach the hit cap (more on this later). It’s a great choice for Destruction Warlocks who are just starting to raid since it’s unlikely you’ll have the gear you need to be ‘capped’ for…

0/13/58: This is typically a build chosen for higher end raiding. This makes sense since at higher levels of raiding, you will have more access to gear with sufficient +hit and can use that flexibility to improve mana-efficiency (and thereby the damage you can do between Life Tap) for you and your raid.

OK, got my spec, now what about Glyphs?
Once you reach the Hit Cap, Spell Power is the thing you want most of. In fact, the more of it the better. Now here’s the irony: although Spell Power is the king of stats… you don’t need to worry too much about it.
Warlock Vs Paladin: The Showdown!

Had a little situation last night that I thought one of you wise and learned Warlocks can help me out on. This is my first WOW character of any note and I don't really understand other classes with much detail so hopefully one of you can enlighten me.

Was doing the daily last night, Paladin was tanking, he wasn't marking at all and with MOD groups of about 4 or 5, made it quite hard. After a couple of crits, they came for me, Soulshatter obviously helps but I can't rely on that for every fight. So I started to use Shadowfury to bide my time, stun them and maybe regroup and give the tank some time to get aggro back. Now at this point the Paladin went ****ing apeshit and started screaming something about him being OOM and stuns being a big mistake from me. So furious was he that the turd got me kicked out of the group. Now I must've been doing something wrong to get the little piss-juggler so livid but I haven't a clue as the last thing he said was 'You should learn was a Paladin is all about' which I intend to do.....when I create a Paladin character. Until then, I was hoping for some more constructive, less hair-brained criticism.

Can ya help a brother out, I'm at a loss and any mistakes I might have made, I'd rather avoid in the future.

Thanks all!

hi,

yesterday I ran Nexus hc with a good group, so I decided to use curse of doom (to spawn the doomguard and have some fun).

However, on two of the bosses (Telestra and Anomalus) it didn't seem to do damage, since both of the bosses were (coincidentally) immune to damage after the 60 seconds was up.

I guess this is normal behaviour and we should not cast CoD on those bosses?

There is my current armory, you'll notice I'm fully hit capped because we don't run with a moonkin/SP having a bad recruitment drought in those areas.

With that said I'm trying to run some numbers, would it be wise to take the extra hit from supression till then and get some of my spirit gear on and run with lifetap glyph I am not at the moment due to rather low spirit but I'm wanting an opinion.

Id like to think I'm pretty solid with a couple questionable choices like not having the badge ring, but I could handle a small loss in dps at the moment to build my finances up selling crusader orbs. I don't have alot of time in wow for anything other than raiding and also my cloak I didn't raid in ulduar but maybe 4 clears before I started ToC content and now I can't get a cloak drop for the life of me...wtb cloak of displacement.

I am having a problem with keeping dps numbers while in raids where i am moving around alot. I use LT,Imm,conflag,CB, spam incinerate. The thing is that as long as i can stand and cast I can do very high damage and dps but when I am moving alot it seems my Imm spell totally drains my dps since I'm not casting high damage spells. I was wondering if there is a dot or something I'm not using that others find usefull to at least hold constant damage on a target until casting can resume. Thank you. Also, I use CoE on most all raid targets and bosses.

I have found a viable spec for tanking heroics with my guildies. I use pvp gear to get uncrittable, while maintiaining high HP and spell power. I use a brewfest stam trinket, i also use indestructible pots. Another thing that is good to have, is a trinket w/ a use for extra spell power or haste. It helps to keep threat, since i was running with people geared from heroic 10 toc - heroic 25 toc.

The spec you can use is here, Pet used is void walker duh.

Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

Rotation for single target is like the rotation for current destro builds(dont use curse first you need threat unless people are going to hold for you which mine didnt) Immolate > searing pain > Conflag > Chaos bolt > Searing pain > Searing Pain > Searing Pain (until conflag and chaos bolt are up.

For multiple targets, you MUST mark since you cant taunt, and its also preferred your dps single targets. Basically, i start with an immolate on the first target, followed by a shadowfury, then a conflag and then i immolate the other targets. From there i keep searing paining or conflagging and chaos bolting. If an add gets loose i searing pain them and they usually come back.

You can make some variations such as dropping shadowfury for another point in soul leech. Or you can drop 30% sac(Demonic Brutality) for imp health stones.

Use Demon armor, use void walker, use decent pvp gear, i use all relentless off peices. You can flask(stoneblood) if you want to, i never did. Pop indestructibles during boss fights. Always have a health stone and pet out for soul link. Make sure your healer is decent and heals your pet as well.

I most likely missed something, silly things which should be obvious most likely. Like shadow ward against people casting shadow shit at you.

OH and its nice to have a hunter or rogue in your group to MD and Tricks you if necessary.

This is not a theory, i have tanked heroics.

Entertain this idea anyone? Any suggestions? Flames? Just throwing this thing out here to help people.

________

Also, meta is a good spec for it too with charges and stuns and taunts and all, however the threat from it i was unsure of. 600% armor is very good. But my healer didnt have a problem keeping me up during the boss fights. I've not tried a raid yet. I'm not sure if i'll try.

So many good thoughts in this forum .. and much confusion in this old man's mind.
I seek you all out for you all seem to know a heck of lot more than I do. After much reading on many forums (WoW, Elitest) and even more reading (and believing) in this forum ... I beleive I have some facts, and theories down, but well.. am still very confused ..

This is what I read - understand (for PvE)..

1. Spell power is the best return for the money spec we have ... never give it up for anything else.

2. BUT, we need to remember

Hit is a big return item and we should cap it around 368 (w/suppression & 446 w/o) - plus Hit impacts Crit - for warlocks they are seperate "rolls" - if you hit, then crit chance rolls - if you miss,, neither happens.

Haste is a next, and the goal should be 500 or so (wow)

Crit comes third, and goal is 25% - but NOT as the expense of HIT or SP

3. Don't forget Spirit - it is often underrated and forgotten - we get a 30% return as SP with Fel Armor.

4. Never gem for bonus - UNLESS it is for SP, HIT, or Haste (allows replacement of gems to better fit missing caps).

Okay folks - what first. How would you organize you quest for ultimate damage and mayhem? How would you plan your "building" of your toon.

Phase 1: SP to 2K, then hit to 300, then haste to 350, then crit to 20%

Phase 2: Next SP to 2.5K, then hit to 350..

Phase 3: After another patch comes out, take up heavy drinking!!

Seriously, how would you all approach this (given a 0/13/58 build)?

Thanks!!

So what are you planning to do ? Go affliction? Or stay with destro?

I am going to go with either a 55/1/15 or 55/0/16 build and keep my 3/13/55 as my offspec.
