Not sure if everyone knows but until the new patch is applied all possible "discoveries " have been removed from the game due to an exploit people were using.
So if you have a stockpile like i do trying to make "discoveries" wait until after the patch, plus our chances will be greater after the patch .Oh,and some new recepies will be added then, think 2 from different factions if you have the rep. but not sure about the other two.
probally old news to some but just thought i'd throw that out there.

Re: to my fellow alchemists

Ok.. Question - How does this discovery thing work with Alchemy? I'm not an alchemist but am leveling a new toon that is. SO if I need to stock pile something it would probably be a good thing that I start now.

Could someone explain it for me?

Thanks

As far as I know, it's a chance that you discover a new recipe when crafting something. For example i discovered water -> shadow (yeay !) when doing a water -> air transmute.

I was transmutation specced at this time, and i think the discoveries are linked to your spec. So if you stockpile something, it should be related to the spec you choose

Yeah I been saving my herbs as well. I read a few weeks ago that a hotfix nerfed discovery so I quit mixing till the patch.

Discovery will only happen on mixtures you learn from the outlands and from the mixing of herbs you collect from the outlands. So the minor healing potions won't proc discovery if I read it all correctly.

This is wrong, the discoveries has absolutely nothing to do with your specc. I have discovered flasks with being no spec at all, and transmutes while being elexirspecced.

Re: to my fellow alchemists

No "discoveries have nothing to do with what spec you picked. Last night after the patch I "discovered two new recepies and I am a potion master and both were elixar's.
