Possible drop

As i hit 70, my priorities are this:
1)Flying mount
2)FSW
3)Other gear
4)?????
5)Profit!
However, i'm thinking about dropping enchanting for mining to accelerate my mount fund. My enchanting's at 290 and i only have Icy and Demonslaying, as well as +9 stam to bracers and Unholy in the bank, for special enchants. The one perk of having enchanting is de'ing the stuff i make for tailoring into shards and dust, so i have a small stockpile of arcane dust and a few of each kind of shard from radiant up to prismatic, no epic shards however.
So my question is, how much dust should i stockpile to make tailoring not as costly? I have 124ish in the bank right now, and i feel that i should shoot for 200+ before dropping enchanting. Also, how long does it take for mining to be profitable? I've heard that mithril and thorium are where the gold starts to come in, so i would like some conformation on this.
For the record i have 365 tailoring and want to make those last 10 points as painless as possible(like that's going to happen lol).
So give me your advice and thanks in advance!

Re: Possible drop

I am an enchanter and I would recommend not dropping it. I make quite a bit of gold by buying items low on the AH and selling the mats. Best on my server for profit is illusion dust and Greater Eternal Essence so I buy anything 51-56 on the AH for under 3G50s. 1 illusion dust goes for 3G and 1 greater eternal essence goes for 15G. Being you are a tailor you could als just farm the mats for a 51-56 craftable item and d/e that for even more profit. Enchanting is also great when you start to get worthless rare items from quests and de them for a LPS...just my 2 cents

Re: Possible drop

I dropped 375 enchanting for mining, wanted to get my epic flyer and that was the fastest way to do it. I still don't regret it, even though I've now dropped mining for herbalism for free consumables =)

I'll be switching back to enchanting for 2 +12 damage enchants once I get hyjal/bt rings. Your professions are not static things, change them as your needs change.

Re: Possible drop

I use the infamous guildy trick to prevent having to drop enchanting. Find a RLF with 3 alts all with epic flyers that is also a herb alc and borrow 5k. I set up a payment plan using the money i get from netherwing dailys etc. 500g a week. If you dont have a friend just ask someone you met with extra money I know very few people that financed their entire mount along. Usually its a grp effort.
