When to drop tailoring

I originally took up tailoring for my FSW set. I have since gotten better gear and can not for life of me remember the last time I made somethng. Any reason to keep tailoring or should I go for a profession like eng or ench. My other profession is mining(375).

I am in the same boat as you, I think I am going with Eng so that IU can craft the chopper.

It depends on what your intentions are. If you don't plan on raiding or don't bother min/maxing your gear, by all means get rid of tailoring. Just be mindful that Blizz may introduce new patterns that you might want to craft or you may end up leveling it up all over again when the expansion comes out. (Whenever that is )

Re: When to drop tailoring

I just posted this on the gold making thread. This is why I would keep tailoring:

"Netherweave bags are a different story. They sell like crazy and are practically pennies to make. For me, total cost to make one is 4G-5G (sometimes less) and sell them for 7G-9G. Do that about 20 times and after about 15-20 minutes of buy, crafting, and posting, and I have 50-100 gold each night."

After doing some rough math, no other profession has quite the return that this does. There are also a couple other things are cheaper to make and will sell.

That isn't quite accurate. I can average a little over 110g a day with Enginerering, that is, if I'm not being lazy.

Re: When to drop tailoring

I would keep tailoring for when you hit 80 in Northrend.
You will prob be able to make at least 3 epics right out of the gate.
This is speculation of course, but I really dont see them changing that.
Plus make some profits off bags ect...

It depends if you have plans for adding Spellstrike items to your character - part of the item bonus from Spellstrike requires 350 in tailoring.

I can imagine Blizzard doing more of these kinds of little 'gotchas' in the future in order to beef up the uniqueness of the professions.

Re: When to drop tailoring

Tailoring is a real moneyspinner if that's what you want. Engineering will give you new toys to play with which is cool but I need money. It's different on every server but here's a few examples of what I sell:

Shadoweave shoulders 7-8g (3-4g for mats if I don't farm)
Shadoweave boots 8-10g (3-5g for mats)
Spidersilk boots 13-15g (6g for mats)
Soul pouch 14-18g (6g for mats, I usually have runelcoth anyway)
Robe of the WInter Night 90g (25g for mats)

I definitely will not be dropping tailoring. You don't know what's coming in 2.4 (we got nothing in 2.3 but leatherwrokers were well served so it must be our turn) and we should get some high end patterns in Wrath of the Lich King.

Do tell. I have a retired 52 pally at 275 engineering. I don't play it anymore cause the pally got boring and engineering is a money sink; but I'll level it if it makes some money.
