What to prospect, what ore to sell...
I am now mining, around level 280. Im making decent money selling ore so far, but once I get to 300+ any advice on what ore to sell as ore, what ore to prospect? (prospect is the JC thing right that gets gems??)
Thanks. V |

Re: What to prospect, what ore to sell...
Unless you're a jewelcrafter, sell all of your ore. Look on the AH to see what nets more gold - ore or bars - and then sell that.
Once you can mine Adamantite, however, sell the ore. You'll get between 25 ~ 30 g per stack, depending upon when you list it. Use that money to buy the gems you want. The drop rate on the rare gems is not high enough to warrant prospecting all of your ore, and many JCs will not prospect your adamantite without a hefty tip because it cuts into their profits (I scan the AH twice daily and buy ALL of the rare gems listed that I can cut and relist for 10g higher because it's seldom that anybody ever gives me a 10g tip for cutting their gem. BoE world drops can be expensive). |

Re: What to prospect, what ore to sell...
Prospect Adamantite, sell the others ores on the AH. Sometimes, as Barghbq mentioned, ore skyrockets and rare uncut gems flood the market. In those cases, sell the ore and buy the rare uncut gems.
After you get a few rare gem designs, do both - buy all the Adamantite ore (27g/stack is my cutoff) and all the uncut rare gems (that are listed at 5g less than the cut versions) that you can. Personally I get about 1000g in my mailbox per day and spend 900g or so restocking raw mats. Tuesdays get to 1500-2k sometimes. |

Will the addition of Brilliant Glass in patch 2.4 make prospecting Fel Iron more profitable?

Re: What to prospect, what ore to sell...
As it is, I prospect Fel Iron if I can buy it for <= 12g. I have good success selling the "trash" gems, although I am rather overstocked on Deep Peridot right now. I just can't bring myself to vendor them.
If this goes through, though, I expect the market for cut greens to improve (increase) and the prices for blue (cut and uncut) to drop. I doubt the price of the ore will change very much, since most people who prospect adamantite only do so because the powder is useful. On wowhead, it's suggested that it will cost 9 ~ 18g to make a blue, given the sale price of uncut greens. I sell cut Blood Garnet and Golden Draenite for 2 ~ 3 g ea right now, so the true value of the blue is a bit higher. Can you imagine dumping gems that would've sold for 24g into this and getting a Talasite? Not that it'll stop me, but it's something to think about. Re: What to prospect, what ore to sell...
I vendor about 20 stacks of uncommon gems a week (it's either that or buy a 4th guild bank slot at 1000g). I've tried AHing them, but the listing fee is so high that if they don't sell, I lose $$. I usually prospect adamantite 20 stacks at a time, so I don't feel the burn of prospecting 5 stacks and only getting 2 talasites. Up to 14k sales a week now - I've even started purchasing Designs and relisting them at 200-300g over market rates to keep the competition down
