Dropping LW for JC
My rogue is a 360 something LW but I am finding it isnt much use. I am thinking of dropping it for Jewelcrafting...my lock is already a 375 miner so getting mats shouldnt be an issue...how tough is it to level? I am tired of going to other people to prospect all the ore I mine and having other people do the cuts.

Re: Dropping LW for JC
I got it to 370 on my rogue without too much pain. If you're on a medium-low pop server and/or have an epic flyer on your warlock then it shouldn't be too much of an issue. The worst part is the thorium, I suggest getting that in southern winterspring along with all of the elites, or just selling adamantite and buying thorium.

Re: Dropping LW for JC
I chose JC as one of my starting professions, and I don't regret it.
To level, it can be pretty expensive. Plan on spending a lot of time mining thorium, since there comes a point when you can't progress without Huge Emeralds or Azerothian diamonds, and those didn't drop near as often as I'd have liked. If you don't have an enchanter, you'll need to find one so you can recoup some of your leveling investment (and turn adamantite powder into Large Prismatic Shards). Once you get to level, the gold flows in, but it can be tricky. Sure, you can let Auctioneer undercut by 5%, but that'll drive prices down all over. (I have another comment somewhere about my AH strategies). What'd I recommend, as both a hassle-free way to make gold and a steady supply of gems, is to find a JC who's willing to buy your ore at a discount in return for selling you cut gems at the same price. I have a guy that sells me adamantite for 20g, and in return, I sell him any cut stone (I've even bought 'em off the AH if I don't have the cut) for the same price and make large prismatics for him with his earth and eternium and my powder. It's a sweet deal for both of us. He has a steady supply of gold a regular source for gems, and I have a guaranteed supplier of adamantite. |

Re: Dropping LW for JC
It's not that bad to level IF you have a enchanter to DE everything you make. I leveled JC on an alt (it was a Draeni, so that helped) and just about broke even selling DE mats on the AH.

Re: Dropping LW for JC
I am finding JC a huge money sink over 320, due to the amount of stuff you need to make the items. I am only in HFP at the moment in terms of questing (my priest is 64), so maybe in time I'll be able to mine the better stuff easier (ie when I get my flyer!).
When it's just gems and ore it's not so bad, but it can get expensive if you need other stuff |
