Drop Alch For Mining?
Ok, so I took a few months away from the game , any way I hit level 70 a few days ago finally saved enough for my epic flyer and only have about 300g left after buying it, I need to gear up quick to get back into raiding so I need a lot of gold.
I'm confused daily as to why I keep alch as a profession, all my old guild members who stayed around while I was on break have every alch recp around while I only have a few discoveries. I was thinking of dropping Alch all together, keep herbalism and pick up mining so I can just make a ton of gold. If I need pots I can just send mats to guild mates so they can make the pots for me.. Can anyone offer me any good reasons why I should keep alch except for the months I spent leveling it? PS: Sorry I totally posted this in the wrong section :( |

An alchemy search produces 39 results. I am sure you will find something helpful in one of those threads. Good luck!

Re: Drop Alch For Mining?
Well, aside from the "use the search function" answer that seems to have found its way into virtually every thread now, I wanted to add some personal thoughts based on my own recent experience.
Consider that with the new patch and mining daily, ore nodes are harder and harder to come by. I just dropped mining on my Undead Warlock to pick up tailoring (which was always the plan to be honest) and couldn't be happier that I did. For the first few days after patch 2.4 I was starting to think mining was bugged after multiple trips around Nagrand saw 0 nodes. |

Re: Drop Alch For Mining?
Two reasons to keep alchemy:
1. Mad Alchemist's Potions are kinda yummy 2. The new 63 spell damage trinket is pretty hot, depending what other items you have access to - http://www.wowdb.com/spell.aspx?id=47048 Really if you are wanting to make money just spend alot of time picking flowers. On most servers mining and herbing are comparable money makers. Do research, see what herbs are most profitably sold raw (which is usually the case) and which ones can be better sold in their finish potion/elixir form. This is particularly true if you make things that go along with your specialization. Last edited by Morganfaey; April 23, 2008 at 08:16 AM. Reason: I can't spell =( |

Re: Drop Alch For Mining?
Mining *is* good gold, but now that you have your epic flyer ... why does gold matter when you can do 200+g worth of dailies each day? ("chores," as I call 'em)
Even though leveling mining is neither expensive nor difficult (although it is tedious), I'd keep alchemy. Since you herb, as well, anything you sell is profit, less the cost of the vials, and it'll keep you from having to buy your potions/elixirs/flasks. |

Alchemy is a great money maker, I would not get rid of it just yet, with the new expansion right around the corner (fingers crossed) who knows what new goodies it will bring. |

Re: Drop Alch For Mining?
A search would have given him some assistance to help answer his question, rather than starting yet another thread on a topic that has been covered, and in the wrong section.

I'm guessing I'm not alone when I say it gets annoying to see a topic of interest to me posted here only to click on it and see the only response is "use the search function" again. Yes, people not searching is tedious, but sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. Try to show a little compassion for your fellow community members, or follow the old adage "if you don't have anything nice to say..." I have been guilty of doing this in the past, but in all honestly felt like a complete tool after doing so, knowing it was pointless and not helpful. Akasha and her moderators are very vigilant with thread moderation and I'm suprised she hasn't asked members to refrain from "search scolding" new posts 1.2 seconds after they're up. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but it's my honest opinion, so take it for what it's worth to you. |

Re: Drop Alch For Mining?
Its usually VERY obvious when some neglects to search - and if they haven't taken the time to do so I am loath to take the time to reply with yet another long post outlining the pros/cons and an admonishment to take the time to do some homework.
Yes, opinions/facts do change and if the thread warrants being kept open then it generally is. I'll move this thread and simply add my opinion: If you can farm herbs for flasks, and ore for gold then you're in a fine position with guild mates who can produce any alchemical consumables that you need. |

Re: Drop Alch For Mining?
While I agree posting this in the pet column should have been avoided for obvious reasons, it seems people have a "use the search function" reply macroed on their keyboard with one finger on it all the times waiting to pounce.
Might I suggest that each person who uses that as a reply maybe include a link, which will ultimately help the database of searchable items more? Telling people to use the search function is like telling a person who asks directions on the street to go buy a map and believing you did them a favor. |
