Warlock - Tailoring or Alchemy?
Hey guys,
I'm starting a lock and i have some doubts about what professions should I choose. I already have a 70 druid with lw and skinning. Tailoring/Enchanting would be good cause cloth is easy to get and my druid could farm some if needed. Disenchanting could be trained by dc the cloths i would make. Alchemy/Herbalism would be useful for both, druid and lock. Also, i could use herb to farm some primal life. About the doubts: 1- A warlock without tailoring would lose a lot (besides the set)? Would some T4/Epic be enough to fulfill set's role? (Keeping in mind that enchanting could be sone by someone in my guild, as the ring's enchantings wouldn't be this char's priority). 2- Is Alchemy hard to get 375? Herbalism might suck, as it would take a while to level... searching for herbs... But it would probably worth at long term as both of my chars could use it. What do you think? Thanks! |

Re: Warlock - Tailoring or Alchemy?
I took Tailoring and Enchanting, but then again I have a small army of alts with just about every profession.
Tailoring, simply because getting the FSW set will make the first level 70 instances easier to survive, and Enchanting because, as you say, you will make a boatload of green items with tailoring that can be used to provide enchanting mats. So far, only level 33, I'm enchanting my own gear with the low-level +stam and so on and because it's the same character, every time I get a useless green drop, it gets DE'd on the spot and if I have the mats, a swift couple of points on my enchanting. Likewise with the cloth. Some goes on bandages but only as I outlevel the cloth type.. so, I'm past the stuff I can make with Linen, so I made a load of linen bandies. Same with wool, and soon, silk. A note for later: Imbued Netherweave Robe and Tunic DE into Large Prismatic Shards so save all the Netherweb Spider Silk you can! Enchanting can be a real money sink to level, so this is a nice cheap way to do it as you go. Saves all that horrible grind later on. My herbalism/Alchemist didn't hit 375 in either until after 70.. but then again, the Alchemists output was useful all the way up. |

Re: Warlock - Tailoring or Alchemy?
Once you cap out tailoring, you get some great stuff. My pali is capped blacksmithing, crap items more useful to a warrior. My hunter is capped leather working, I have had some benefits of that though. Blacksmithing was just an utter waste of time and gold. Tailoring and enchanting has definitely been the best professions for me overall.

Re: Warlock - Tailoring or Alchemy?
Both Alchemy and Tailoring are pretty easy to level to 375 (compared to BS, LW, and Eng), though Tailoring provides significant benefits over Alchemy, imo. FSW set, netherweave nets (gimmicky, but fun), Spellstrike set bonuses, and I believe a few new Epic tailoring patterns in 2.4.
Alchemy has a nice trinket. |

Re: Warlock - Tailoring or Alchemy?
Tailoring for the Patterns and BoP Epics/Herbalism for the ever-useful pots/flasks/elixirs. If your guild is anything like organised you can merely get a friend to make consumables for you and save a great deal of money while raiding - or simply sell the herbs.
There are a number of other threads covering endgame professions for Warlocks so ultimately you should take the time to glance through them, weigh up the advantages, and decide what suits you best. |

Re: Warlock - Tailoring or Alchemy?
I have Tailoring/Enchanting and I am contemplating dropping the Enchanting for a more viable profession such as Mining. I am not seeing the real benefit now short term w/ enchanting as I thought I might. Once I level it to the max I can see the benefit, but how much $$ I will have dumped to get there?
I struggle w/ finding ways to make gold with my current profession choices. I manage to make some tailoring maing up some green items and selling them to folks for cheap disenchants probably, but It costs me about 1.8 silver to make and I sell for 50-55 silver so it is a good return. I orginally began this character as an alt for my rogue, then found it was more fun to play the lock so I use my Rogue as an alt. But I do not get the rogue out much as I am trying to level the Lock as fast as possible. My rogue has mining and skinning and I never had a gold problem like I do w/ my Lock. I like tailoring but enchanting? It is ok, but a HUGE money pit. |

Re: Warlock - Tailoring or Alchemy?
I'm tailoring and engineering. leveling engineering without mining sucked, but once you hit Zangarmarsh you can start getting primals out of the air, and that makes up for a lot.
I've got enchanting on an alt, so I can do my disenchanting there. |

Re: Warlock - Tailoring or Alchemy?
I ran with Herb/Alch on my Lock. I already did Ench/Tailor with my Spriest. Honestly, i think Tailoring was one of the worst 375 grinds... i was sitting at 374 and it took another 8 Imbued Robes to hit 375. Course... it may have been my crap luck. I reached 375 chanter before i got 375 tailor...
![]() Anyhow, Herb/Alch was not hard to level. im sitting at 370 with alchemy, i could max it but im in no rush really. I BG a lot so I like the pots for a lil extra firepower... plus getting ganked by rogues made me hot for Free Action pots. I think you cant lose with either choice really. Good thing you have an alt 70... it'll make the money-mat grind easier if you go chant/tailor. |

Re: Warlock - Tailoring or Alchemy?
Yeah, thats what I think about enchanting... It's not worth the money... Cause you can get a friend to enchant things to you. As i play in warsong, high population, there r lots os enchanters so people sell the enchants at a low cost (if I ever need to buy).
Tailoring is nice but my guild can run me trough KZ to farm epics. I'm not sure if the set would make a lot of difference when you can farm KZ, badges, T4 items. And there is the problem that tailoring only benefits the lock when alchemy would benefit both, dont you think? Not to say that I could get some money get transmutation mastery. What do you say? |
