Re: What to drop ?

Keep both till you are 70 as it is a good source of income. But to make good use of both at the same time, you will need a Gathering-Addon like Gatherer or Cartographer, i would advice to start using one of those soon.

Once you are 70 and have bought your flying mount, just drop one or both of them - at that point daily quests will be your best source of income and you can go whatever professions you like.

Re: What to drop ?

Well Mr 47, I'd stay as a double gatherer until you hit 70 and then consider taking a crafting profession after getting your epic flying mount - the income will be very useful and once you've played a little more at 70 you can decide what else you would like to get your character to do.

Re: What to drop ?

Drop mining in my opinion. Herbalism will be used in the expansion when it comes out for inscriptions which will be a massive gold income. Mining is also good but i think herbs will be in demand a heck of a lot more soon.
If it was me i would keep mining till the expansion then pick up inscription. But thats just me

Re: What to drop ?

Mining will still support JC, Engineering and BS as well as give a passive STAM boost in Wrath. It will still be a great gathering prof but just not likely spike as high as herbing the first 90 days of Wrath. Bear in mind, the spike in herb demand also means a spike in node competition.

Re: What to drop ?

At this point, I would suggest keeping both to 70 and just keep farming mats until the full crafted items lists from LK are posted. Once we see what's available at level 80 with 450 crafting, then decide what to power-level up. If you're not expecting to pick up Jewelcrafting, sell the ores and stash the herbs for the inscription price spike.

(And since you're not yet 70, hoarding the 6200 gold for your epic flier should be a priority, and gathering professions are likely the fastest way to get there. Most crafting professions are just money sinks with little benefit.)

Thanks for the advice

Iam currently level 65 with 375 Mining/herbalism

and I have now 5800 Gold ...

So I guess as soon as I reach level 70 I will buy my epic

Re: What to drop ?

I decided to drop tailoring for mining, I just got tired of spending crazy amounts of gold for the ore in the AH. My priest is 375 tailoring so I can afford to drop it on my lock, plus I just got my epic riding skill to make the farming easier.

Re: What to drop ?

While I have nothing to add to the discussion regarding the OP's question, I'll use the existing thread to ask my own identical profession question instead of starting a new one.

I am a PVP warlock that has grown tired of the BG's and arena and have decided to try and start raiding more. After careful consideration and much thought and research, I have decided to pick up tailoring. I'd like to hear some folks weigh in on whether to drop herbalism or alchemy. I know that with dailies a gathering profession is not as important as it once was, but I've read some on the benefits available to herbalists when Wrath of the Lich King comes out. Conversely, alchemy obviously lets me make my potions, elixirs, flasks, primal mights, and the like. I still need to do some more research on alchemy in Wrath of the Lich King, but I can see were alchemy would be beneficial to my tailoring and raiding. I seem to be weighing the costs of raid/tailoring mats (potions/primals, etc) vs the costs of alchemy mats (herbs, etc). Any suggestions or opinions?

Keep herbalism for the expansion. Yes dailies are nice income, but you will make $$$$$ on selling herbs for the inscription profession. Roll an alt for alchemy, that way you can sell excess herbs you don't use. At least this is what I would do in your situation.
