Re: What's your way of making gold?

You might hate doing the daily quest grind but that's going to be one of the best ways to get this done. Along with figuring out a handfull of fast dailies do what darksniper said and run some regular questing, 12-15 gold for a quest isn't anything to sneeze at.

I just got my first epic flyer with a combo of post 80 questing, selling saronite/titansteel, and playing the AH just a little. It took a couple of weeks only playing one or two hours a day due to my schedule. Questing was a big part of this, but if you just can't bring yourself to grind quests anymore then you could try playing the AH. Use addons to figure out what the going rate for goods on your server are, find things that are listed for less than what you could sell them at vendor (yeah, that actually happens). There is money to be made that way as well, my wife had a sub-level 15 toon on a server that she only played with when the queue for ours was too big, and by the time she dinged 15 she had almost 300 gold. She did this by mining copper nodes around the Blood Elf starting zone and selling it on the AH, buying out copper ore/bars that were underpriced and relisting them more inline with the server norm price.

Figure out something that is in high demand for your server that you know will sell on a regular basis, let's say something like peacebloom. Scan the AH a few times a day to see what's for sale in peacebloom. Buy up anything and everything that is grossly underpriced, relist it in small stacks (5-10 max) at something closer to the server norm, profit. It may seem counterintuitive to sell small stacks but most folks buying mats don't need 20 peacebloom, they only need a few for whatever pot they are making. You'll sell more things to more people in smaller stacks as opposed to hooking one guy that is powerleveling alch or inscription that will buy lots of 20 stack stuff. Now, I don't know if I'd do the same with frostcloth due to just how much of it you'll need if you're trying to level up tailoring and you're too lazy to go farm the stuff yourself.

Re: What's your way of making gold?

I am a very casual player and got my epic flying mount at 79, the "cold weather flying ability" as soon as I dinged 77.

The 6200 gp that costed to me (I had already the normal flying mount from BC, but I stopped playing during two months after WtlK came out) were farmed in several weeks.

Three sources of income :

1. The quests of course. As said by another poster, quests are pretty profitable just by their own money rewards. I did the normal quests as I was still discovering the zones, but you can do the dailies. Those in Ice Crown tend to have higher rewards, up to 23 gp if I recall correctly.

2. When doing the normal quests which gave an item reward, I always chosed the reward, except if it was a significant upgrade to me, according to the highest NPC buyout price. To know this price I installed a wonderful add-on "Auctionneer", which, besides tons of other utilities, shows the NPC resell price. You wouldn't believe how, for the same quest, the different rewards vary in merchant-bought price. Weapons and plate armor pieces usually sell the highest to the NPC merchants.

2b. Same applies to green/blue items found as loot. I found out that the market is not infinite for these items at the AH -even considering the everlasting need of magic items by enchanters- and that you often lose money (through the deposit fee) when trying to sell -even with a low price by using Auctionner to understand the market- every item you looted. As I stopped auctionning every green item, prefering to sell it at the NPC merchant, and kept only specific items for the AH by selecting those who had a real market, my funds raised significantly quicker. Use Auctionneer to see which items are in demand and which ones are not. Weapons are often good blockbusters.

3. I sold sytematically what I collected and transformed through mining. I made thousands of gold by selling cobalt bars and the "side-products" during my questing time in the lower Wrath of the Lich King zones as I was leveling. But that involved holding on with my second profession, jeweler, which is still at 200 or so. Wait you have bought your fast fly ability and your mount before thinking of leveling again your second profession, they are all money-eaters, at least at the beginning

As you see, very simple, and I am really casual, I dinged 80 one week ago or so. I play twice/three times the week, and not every week... Good luck, fellow warlock !

Re: What's your way of making gold?

Quests - clear out all of the quests in Northrend. Easy way to make a bit of gold. Especially the lower level zones that you skipped where you can blow through them.

Bring faction-exclusive recipes to the neutral AH from horde-side, especially the cooking recipes. Unlike alliance-side faction-exclusive cooking recipes that are all clustered on a single vendor in SW (mostly), the horde recipes are spread across 7 different zones.

Same concept - find recipes that are only sold in a single spot, that is away from cities and major flight points. Start selling them on the AH for a modest profit. I usually park an alt at the vendor and shuttle back and forth to the nearest mailbox.

Gathering skills - fishing, herby, skinning, collecting meats... even old Outland stuff can sell.

Re: What's your way of making gold?

Few ways to make some easy coin that haven't been mentioned so far:

Engineers can make the Tranquil Mechanical Yeti pet. Mats off the AH on my server generally run me about 75g per yeti, and I turn each around and sell them for 300+.

BoE Emblem of Valor bracers (if you're a raider and don't need them) can fetch 1-3k depending on server and your patience.

Depending on your server, mining/herbalism might be a good source of funds but on high-population servers like mine, it's better gold to buy the mats off the AH to make flasks and sell those than to go out and fight the million farmers for the mats in the first place.

Start monitoring the trends on your server. An example of this is Flasks of Endless Rage (melee buff flask.) On the weekends, these sell for about 50g on my server. But during the week as it gets close to raid times for most guilds (7 pm) often the AH will run completely dry. Whenever I hear someone throwing a fit about how there's no flasks on the AH I hop on my bank alt and list a stack of two of whatever's not there for 120g a pop. They sell like hot cakes ;) by the time raid's over, I get back on my bank alt and pick up around 1k from my mailbox.

Also if you're an enchanter, buying greens DEing them and relisting the mats (works for vanilla wow enchanting mats too! not just northrend greens.) Also, rare enchant recipes and purchased ones can fetch as much as 50g tips, and offering DE'ing as a service can net you up to 100g per session as well.

Re: What's your way of making gold?

I do the cooking daily on three toons every day. The price of spices have dropped a bit in the last few weeks but it is still roughly 100g per day from the quest rewards and spice selling. If I'm not feeling lazy I'll cook something profitable instead of selling the raw spice.

My main is a JC/miner so I look for profitable cut gems on the AH. I was one of the first people on the server with the spell power/spirit gem so that made a tidy profit. Even now that the cut gem is half the price it used to be it is still 3 times the price of the uncut twilight opal.

I also need to start using my titansteel cooldowns whenever I have mats. There are new BS recipes for 3.1 that will call for them so hopefully I can capitalize on that. I also plan on having some glyphs ready to go on the AH when dual specs hit and people need to fill the slots of their second spec.

I never seem to make large sums of gold (need a jet'ze bell to randomly drop for me!), but it slowly trickles in. I'm also leveling a priest that will need an epic flyer (plus cold weather flying and the regular flying training plus a mount) soon. While I think it will clear my gold supply out I expect to make most of it back by herbing.

My biggest issue with making gold is that I tend to hoard things. I never sell my enchanting mats or primals because I may need them some day! I'm also holding on to all the Northrend herbs my priest is getting as she levels because one of these days I'll finish leveling her inscription.

Re: What's your way of making gold?

Being a tailor/herbalist, i make plenty of money selling bags and all the herbs can get. I do send some to my Shaman to use for Inscribing. While I level Taluna, I learn a minor daily and make and sell ones that are hot sellers. I also play the AH some but not a lot.

I avg. around 2-300 a week and easily have the gold for my flier at 70 already.

Re: What's your way of making gold?

After you ding 80 the gold you get from quest rewards is REALLY high since you're not getting experience anymore. I farmed quests at 70 after wrath came out (I was a little behind) to make the gold I needed for an epic flying mount. regular gold rewards from questing in northrend are really high too, I've made plenty just leveling.

Also, as someone mentioned, get auctioneer. In the very least it'll make you see whats worth vendoring, which rewards to choose from quests, and whats selling right now. My boyfriend uses it and he makes a LOT of gold from mining and skinning, skinning being more or less effortless. He knows what to sell when and for how much from Auctioneer.

according to my gold tracker, i make about 200g an hour doing dailies which is better than i'm getting in a naxx run. if you've unlocked all of the icecrown dailies there's really not much travel involved. i can typically do all the dailies aboard the ship & the ones from ebon blade in under 45 minutes... if i remember right that totals up to about 130g i can grab every day.

i'm not really disciplined enough to do that every day, but anytime i'm in one of my moods to try out random hybrid specs or trying to solo old heroics & raids, i crank a few of those out to cover the cost. personally i just found this way easier than spamming trade chat and trying to sell my tailoring items (which i have since dropped). it seems everyone on my server is an enchanter so i can't keep up with the competition of 450 enchanters, even if i have the recipe someone is looking for. i dunno, for some reason they see 450 enchanting and think it's better to use that guy than the 430 enchanter who could actually level off what they're looking for :/ it's catch 22.

anyway that aside... i find questing to be a great way to get money. be it dailies or loremaster stuff. doing anything pre Wrath of the Lich King won't generate anything but achievements, but if you've not achieved loremaster of northrend this is a great way to pick up gold and/or enchanting mats. if you don't need the soulbound quest rewards for enchants then you can make even more gold.

the other thing i occasionally do is prowl the auction house for items that people have either miss priced, or not placed a "minimum" on. you can sometimes find items where there's no minimum and are probably NOT going to sell before expiring (normally odd items).... anyway with a keen eye and some patience you can nab these up and just re-price on the auction house for some gold.

Re: What's your way of making gold?

always list Enchant mats in Single Stacks - a 4 Stack maybe (for example G Cosmic Essences) sell for 60g (15g Each) I list 4 singles they appear before on the AH when ordered by Total/or Bid (what most people use) at 20g Each and invariably sell first as they "Appear" to be the cheapest - unless someones using the % cost in Auctioneer.
