Making money as Alchemy?
So lately I've been having trouble making money. My main (Lock) has Maxed out Herbalism and Alchemy, and is an Elixir Master (chance to proc and produce 2-5 more extra flasks or elixirs). The thing is that for a while now, I'm not sure which, but it's either that Herbs have been going for very high prices (a single Frost Lotus is 29 G) or that Flasks aren't selling for much (most expensive is currently endless rage, at 40 g). Without Elixir master procs, I make minimal profits. I've been thinking of dropping Alchemy and taking up another proffesion, but I'm not sure which would be good, because, while it doesn't make money, Alchemy has some nice perks (4 hour long Flasks w/bonus stat boosts). So my first question is, does anybody know of a good profession to replace Alchemy with, that will earn me profit but still give me a decent bonus? Second question, besides that, does anybody simply know of a good way that someone can make money, without devoting ridiculously long hours? I'm a student, I have stuff to do besides play WoW. P.S. If it helps, I have fishing ~400, max cooking (nearly a Chef), an alt with 150 tailoring/enchanting and another alt with 150 JC, 140 mining. |

Re: Making money as Alchemy?
My mage is a herbalist and pot master and while I dont make much gold from making pots I do make quite a bit for herbs. I am selling them at about 50 gold a stack and with a epic flyer equals easy gold. My lock is a miner and I dont seem to make much gold selling ore. 20 to 30 a stack I dont think is worth my time. Just my 2 cents but every server is different. |

Re: Making money as Alchemy?
Honestly i don't think there's any money making proffesion left in the game. The only combo that could be making good money still is mining/jc. Doing the daily JC gives you a token that can be exchanged for a dragon's eye that sells for 150-200G. I have 3 level 80 chars, lock ench/tailor, druid mining/jc, paladin herb/alchimist. Ofc the worst combo is my lock, i haven't even maxedout tailoring since there's nothing i can make and either use or sell. I have 450 enchanting, and sometimes i make 10-20G tips/day from doing some high level enchants. But with all the people OFFERING money if they skill up, it's pointless to even waste time advertising on trade. The most money i've made with my druid. I do the daily, i mine sometimes, i make my daily prysm and sell uncut gems, or smelt titansteel and sell it. I've never tried to sell the ore or the saronite/cobalt/titanium bars tough. I don;t make any money from tips by cutting gems for people. Since all the recipes are from trainer/rep, and many people got JC cose of it's overpoweredness, competition is so high it's not worth it. On the pally, i stoped herbing a long time ago, and i even buy herbs now to make flasks and elixirs for myself and my alts ![]() If i were to pick JUST one proff to make money, i'd pick mining. But don;t expect to make more money by selling the ore/bars than by doing some dailies in the same time. Later edit: the reason i've stoped herbing on my pally is that after mining on my druid, i find dismounting/mounting on the pally so annoying that i choose not to do it .Druids are the best gatherers ![]() Even later edit: i think the easiest thing to do for you is to keep your proffesions and make some good use of fishing/cooking. Buff food sells very good on my server at least. Last edited by jesterlock; March 08, 2009 at 06:58 PM.. |

Re: Making money as Alchemy?
I make very good money herbing in Zul'Drak and just selling them on the AH, usually weekdays are the best. Herbs can go for anywhere from 1-3 gold each. ZD has a ton of herbs and hardly anyone on my server herbs there. Although tailoring isn't very good, I usually buy cooldowns for ebonweave, as well as use my own to craft Ebonweave robes. They go for about 1200-1500 gold on my server. All the other tailoring epics go for much less. |

Re: Making money as Alchemy?
i do pretty good with tailoring making gloves that sell from 500-700g making about 3 a week and not really doing any farming to make them. Just farming herbs and selling them is a very good money maker...i dont really sell flasks and pots i make i just make em for personal use.If i have an abundance of frostweave i make some of the duskweave belts DE them and sell the dust for nice profit. I have herb/alc/tail/ench all maxed |

Re: Making money as Alchemy?
On my server I can bring in about 1100-1200 gold in a weekend profit after shelling out 400G for as much saronite as I can get my hands on. I make as many epic gems as I can, and dump them in the AH starting Friday night and trailing off Wednesday. That and doing dailies have allowed me to accumulate roughly 22,000 gold in my guild bank. Although of late, JC is not making nearly what it did in January.

Re: Making money as Alchemy?
I am maxed in Inscription and Herbalism and although the glyphs are hit or miss to sell the Weapon and Armor vellums can make me 100-200G a night. |

Re: Making money as Alchemy?
before woltk..i remember i max my JC and sold alot of blood garnetts...even more when i cut them into the agility ones and sp ones... when no ones is selling i would bump the price to 15g-20g a gem and i would sell...lol...after the woltk it doesnt sell as much... people still buy it for 10g thuogh...JC is good money maker...right now i make a good 100g a day on cuts...in my server. i charge like 10g for cuts....its how you advertise...i would farm for an hour or 2 and then advertise in the trade channels...weekends is always busy... |

Re: Making money as Alchemy?
if you are looking at wow professions purely from a profit perspective, the gathering professions are the only ones worth having. they are also, unfortunately the ones that take the most time out of everything. otherwise, everything else can be an arbitrage opportunity (acquire mats and sell for profit), but what I think you'll find over time is that the price of the finished goods is more or less going to equal the price of the mats, plus any markup for whatever cooldowns, proc rates, etc are installed into the profession. Which will be very slim on a lot of things. my toon making the most money right now is my herbalist/skinner that has fishing nearly maxxed out. the fish that go in fish feasts are worth fishing for as they are the most in demand. I do it while watching TV or reading, you can turn on sounds so that you only hear the fish catch sound and multi-task. I make a lot of money this way. Re: Making money as Alchemy?
I have alch/herb on my 'lock and mining/JC on my deathknight. For a while I was making some money selling arcanite bars because I could buy the mats for ~5g and sell bars for 9g. However, someone has come in and started selling bars for 6g80s or so and I've moved on because you don't sell arcanite bars in high enough volume. I haven't been lucky enough to proc one of the popular flask recipes yet, only two minor ones - so I can't speak to the flask market yet. The past week I've been making money prospecting thorium ore into various green gems and selling those. When thorium ore goes below 2g, I buy immediately and prospect. Decent gold. My JC isn't high enough to prospect Saronite yet. I think the key as someone alluded to above is to be flexible. Making a lot of gold is less about your particular profession and more about your ability to do well on the AH. |
