Help please!! Overwhelmed by professions
Hi guys, So I'm new to WOW (obviously). I currently have a level 66 warlock but I have not leveled my professions at all. Being new, I have little gold. I am on a pvp server and I am interested in BG's and eventually arena one day. My question is the following: Being a level 66 with little gold and also having limited time to play, which professions do you recommend? I would like to choose 2 professions and stick with them indefinitely (I don't have the time to invest in a profession only to drop it and level something later on). I'm interested in pvping but I've read that engineering is expensive to level. So I'm wondering what combo you'd recommend that would be good for money and/or pvp. I should also say that I'm quite intimidated by this whole profession thing. It was hard enough leveling first aid, and these professions seem very time intensive. Anyway, I've read through a lot of the threads, and it seems like enchanting + mining/tailoring/engineering/jewelcrafting might be the best options? Thanks for the info guys! |

Re: Help please!! Overwhelmed by professions
Engineering is soo much fun, though expensive to level without mining. My lock has been a tailor/engineer as my first character from the start and let me tell you, that is PAINFUL, lol. But totally worth it, the trinkets you get and the item enhancements are very useful, along with the not totally useful crashin' thrashin' robot and purple smoke flare, just fun little items to play with. Tailoring is especially useful for self made epics in the end, and bags, can't forget the bags. Tailoring also comes with useful item enchants. Up to you, though leveling them will make you weary :P

Mining or Herbalism to earn some gold. Tailoring / Enchanting / Jewelcrafting are all nice professions for a warlock... but expensive to level |

Re: Help please!! Overwhelmed by professions
My Priest is Jewelcrafting/Engineering, and my Warlock is Enchanting/Tailoring. Jewelcrafting and Enchanting is the best money making combination in the game, and match everything else for profession benefits. Engineering benefits are of a different flavor, and it's definitely the most fun profession for me. Unfortunately, they are rather expensive to level (especially Engineering). I didn't realise this when I took Enchanting/Tailoring on my lock, and so I was extremely poor until Wrath came out. The value of Enchanting is indescribable in being able to DE useless quest greens and drops, as well as keeping your items enchanted with whatever you use to skill up, which really helps improve your efficiency (especially after 350 skill). Jewelcrafting will give you the most flexible benefit in the form of JC-only prismatics, and the tinkets and neck/rings will help immensely in gearing up. Since you aren't max-level and don't have access to dailies, I would suggest taking a gathering profession and spending the time to level it up so you can gather what's around you, and using that to make enough gold to pick up whatever profession you eventually choose. |

I also think you should do gathering professions. I would do mining and skinning. Sell your hides and keep your mining stuff for when you stop questing and switch professions. If you transition to raiding, one of your professions should be jeweling and the other should be either tailor or enchanter. |

Re: Help please!! Overwhelmed by professions
Pick one gathering prof (mining, herb, skinning) and take enchanting. As you level, you're going to pick up a bunch of trash greens from quests and mobs that you can DE to sell. Once you hit 80 then start leveling your professions. If you're chronically short of cash, keep enchanting (the +SP ring enchants are hard to pass up) and make money in trade, scrolls or from mats and take up a second crafting profession - Tailoring/Engineering/Inscription/Alchemy/Jewelcrafting are all good choices. If you're cash rich, you might drop enchanting for a different crafting profession if it has something you just can't do without. |

Re: Help please!! Overwhelmed by professions
herbalism is great for gold, mainly because you have to have herbs for alchemy and inscription. i am currently leveling Inscription. the best part of this profession is the gold. on my server i can sale most glyphs for 15 gold a piece sometimes more. also with inscription you get scrolls like: Scroll of Intellect VIII - Item - World of Warcraft and Scroll of Strength VIII - Item - World of Warcraft (which is great for your demons, especially the felguard) Scroll of Recall III - Item - World of Warcraft which works exactly like your hearth stone but only has a 15 minute cooldown. and this can ONLY be used by an Inscriptionist i have been very satisfied with inscription. very useful. also i really recommend leveling up your cooking. you will benefit greatly from it. the food buffs are very useful, and Spiced Mammoth Treats - Item - World of Warcraft is very sweet for your demon!!

Re: Help please!! Overwhelmed by professions
thx for the advice guys. as i mentioned earlier, i dont have the time to invest in a profession (eg, mining) only to drop it later for another. from the posts, it sounds like JC/Enchanting might be good professions for money, pvp and are viable long-term? |

Re: Help please!! Overwhelmed by professions
i don't recommend JC & Enchanting personally.... JC is hard enough to level as it is, but leveling it without a miner will only prove to be even more difficult. while these two professions would be considered "max dps" professions, & great gold makers, they're only good if you can get them to 450 to begin with... i would recommend tailoring & enchanting for a number of reasons 1 - tailoring is one of the few professions you can level while just playing the game. most of your mats come from simply killing humanoids (cloth...). when i rolled my warlock i really never had to farm for anything - i just hoarded every bit of cloth i could find 2 - the changes made to 3.1 tailoring are quite nice (specifically the embroidery). you can get a very good amount of dps out of that sucker. i realize that's not your main concern in pvp, but it's worth thinking about 3 - tailoring & enchanting are like peanut butter & jelly. i honestly don't think i could have ever leveled my enchanting without tailoring. it was really easy to stack up some cloth, turn it into belts, and DE them for mats to do enchanting. at your level, you could easily pick both of these up and do RFC / SFK runs solo to get it up past the "wool" area (i dunno, level 150 or something?) 4 - being able to get your OWN mats for enchants probably saves you more money than you earn from the profession. as an enchanter, you can DE any bind on pickup quest reward for mats - this is something that no one else can do. i leveled my enchanting from 400-440 mostly by running northrend quests AFTER i hit 80. plus, if you're looking to power level it's really easy to plow those lowbie instances for greens - or even do low level quests for the BoP rewards. so yeah... currently i'm an enchanter/engineer. while i love engineering, i couldn't pull it off if i didn't have a farming alt - and i never would have leveled my enchanting had i not done it in conjunction with tailoring as i leveled. EVERYONE uses enchants, and if you're someone that's short on play time & short on cash, this is an excellent profession to pick up because the mats are fairly easy to come by for your own enchants. in my eyes, it is by far more of a money saving profession, than a money making profession. totally your call and i'm not a PvPer - i know a lot of PvP folks use engineering trinkets, and jewelcrafting is nice no matter what you do. but imo tailoring/enchanting is the bread & butter for any lock who's short on cash, or doesn't have a level 80 already |

Re: Help please!! Overwhelmed by professions
since you wouldnt get high enough in engineering til level 80 anyway, I say go with the money makers, hit mining(and send everything to a bank alt!) and enchanting/skinning and just try to make as much money as possible before level 80. good luck! |
