Alchemie vs jewelcrafting
Hi, I'm currently looking for my professions and I've already decided to take enchanting. Now i'm doubting about what i'll shall take for my second prof. My choise atm is either jewelcrafting or alchemie. They are also meant for PVE. |

Re: Alchemie vs jewelcrafting
If you just care about what it brings you dps wise, jewelcrafting or tailoring are great choices. But all professions are good for that, except the gathering ones. If you don't have an alt that can do the mining/herbing for you, then jewelcrafting or alchemy will cost you loads of gold. I'd expect something between 3-5k gold for jewelcrafting, depending of course on your server economy and how good you can make gold with the profession. From the fun point of view, engineering is probably the best profession around. |

Here is an interesting post for your consideration. It breaks down the cost of leveling from 375-450 World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums -> Costliest Crafting Prof to Level |

Re: Alchemie vs jewelcrafting
Enchanting is a good choice for several reasons - in addition to the ring enchants you can do, you are able to do AH business in enchant materials by DEing Northrend greens and selling the mats. You can make pretty decent money that way. I don't think Alchemy is as expensive as some might think simply because you can fairly easily sell what you craft to raise your skill up. The benefits from a raiding standpoint is that you get the mixology benefit which means greater stat boost from flasks than non-alchemists, plus double duration. You also get Flask of the North. Money can be made in Alchemy, but depending on your server can be tough. On my server, I find that the best profits from Alchemy are in making/selling Runic Mana potions. Flasks are a tough market to be in because of the cost of Frost Lotus. You can sell Runic Mana pots in much greater quantity. I don't have a lot of experience in Tailoring, but I know some people like it a lot. Decent profession bonus plus you can craft the high end stuff but only if you get the recipe. For me personally, I've found it's easier just to find a tailor who can make it for me. You might look into Inscription. You can make good money off inscription in the glyph market because there are TONS of glyphs to sell. Plus, the inscription-specific shoulder enchant means you don't have to grind Hodir rep - very nice IMHO. On top of it all, Inscription is relatively cheap to level. |

Re: Alchemie vs jewelcrafting
If I were to do this all over again then I'd do JC+Alch honestly. The mark up on some gems in ah is about 100% and everyone loves them some flasks. Actually my newish shammy is a jc/alch (being fed by my farming dk which is mining/herb). Tailoring makes decent gold but I've found the only thing that sells consistently for profit is the cooldown cloth. Bags require a watchful eye on the market to make sure you will not be losing money. There is absolutely no winning with glacial bags I've found (mats cost ~800g, sells in ah for 600g) and there is no margin on frostweave bags. I've made decent money off netherweave bags at times though. They can cost as little as 5g to make and sell for 10-15g but the market is usually flooded with them. Enchanting... well it costs a ton to level and it's great for everyone else but to be honest I'm not sure I've actually made much gold from it. There are so many enchanters spamming trade it's not worthwhile and why would someone buy a scroll if they don't have to pay the vellum tax? I have a few people who come to me regularly for deing stuff and the like but then you are stuck sitting there for a few minutes just deing and seldomly getting tipped for it. It's become the profession that everyone else abuses; everyone else just seems to expect you to do it and be happy for the opportunity. The ring enchants are nice, but on par with every other professions bonus. The only way I see anyone making gold with enchanting is if they get one of the rare recipes and mark it up a ton in ah, meanwhile hoping nobody else can make it for them. Am I coming across as biased yet? =D |

Re: Alchemie vs jewelcrafting
ATM, I am making good money on my alchemist selling epic gems. I found the recipe that sells best using LilSparky's Workshop - WoW AddOns - WowAce.com |
