A Collector's Guide to Non-Com/Small Pets

Credits : Post taken from the World of Warcraft Forums. Written by Zalla, a level 14 Troll Hunter from Bloodhoof. Original post can be found here.

So, I'm a sucker for those cute little non-com pets. Both in beta and in live, I've been able to find a good bit of information about where to purchase/find/make them from posts on these forums, and sometimes from first-hand experience in game. This is my attempt to put together a more definitive guide for like-minded collectors.

Basic information on small pets can be found here:

Many thanks to Belenos, Gladmancer, Selena, Llenyd, Jathir, Magicbag, and all who have taken the time to add to this guide, plus to the dozens of beta posters who provided the bulk of the information I have used here, but whose names I have sadly forgotten.

If you have corrections or additional or updated information about any of the pets listed here (or new pets not listed), please share it! I will try to keep this post updated with any new information.

How to Get a Cross-Faction Pet
Many vendored pets are available only in factioned cities or towns from factioned NPCs, leaving those not of that faction unable to purchase one by normal means. Since trades and mail are not allowed between members of the opposite faction, the only way to get yourself a cross-faction pet is through the Auction House in Gadgetzan.

Keep in mind that it's always a good idea to post in your realm-specific forums when looking to buy or sell pets at the auction house... the more people that know about it, the better your chances are.

For information on how to get to Gadgetzan, see Tessie’s Auction House FAQ:

A Collector's Guide to Non-Com/Small Pets

There is also a 'hidden' non-combat pet. A Praire Chicken.

You, unfortunately have to be alliance to do the quest.. as it is in westfall.
First, make a macro with the /chicken emote in it... then go to the vendor in Westfall that sells the Special Chicken Feed... The Saldean Farm I do believe. Target 1 of the chickens in his field and use your macro... after 20 or so times, maybe more don't know... the chicken will look at you funny and you'll see a line that reads : " The chicken looks at you funny, perhaps you should inspect it." inspect it to start the quest. The final result is a little prarie chicken as a pet. Don't know the difference between it and the Acona chicken since I've never seen the Acona, but it's kinda cute.

I have one on my rogue, don't believe me? Come to Dalaran and send a tell to Deanna or Carmin, I'd be glad to show you.

There is also a 1 use combat pet, a ghost like panther. That can be farmed in the Darkshore, ruins of Maithystra (spelling) area. Look for the small cat figurine/statues

Re: A Collector's Guide to Non-Com/Small Pets

There are some other pets available 1 week out of the year in Org. During Children's Week..if you go see the lady at the Orphanage in org and get the easy Quest, you can select between Whiskers the rat, Speedy the Turtle, a pig (can't remember pig's name), or a bag of 5 gold. ;-)
I got Whiskers the rat...

There is probably a few new pets missing from the list since it was originally posted January 02, 2005...

Small note, Parrot, Hyacinth Macaw is the rarest pet in the game. It's not uncommon for there only to be two or three on an entire server. These sell for upwards of 500g.

New non combat pet

I guess I have an unique no combat pet as nobody sai anything about it.

it is called DISGUSTING OOZELING - It is a tiny green ooze that folows yous like any regular pet, it has a drawback that reduces your resistance and makes you look green color while the pet is out !

I never have seen anyone with a pet like this !

Haveyou heard of it ?

Re: A Collector's Guide to Non-Com/Small Pets

FYI: The Maine Coon was renamed to Black Tabby. The Dalaran wizards are friendly to Alliance so this can only be looted by Horde. Alliance would need to check the goblin AH.

Friend of mine looted that disgusting oozeling. Sold it for 130g, impressive for something that gimps you when you have it out.

There's also a unique parrot that you can summon once you become exalted with the Bloodsail Buccaneers and get the captain's hat.
