Enslave Demon Guide

Greetings fellow warlocks! Just decided to post a guide about enslave demon to help out other warlocks, especially the warlocks that are new to the enslave game and want to charm demons to do their bidding. Hopefully this will translate into a nice guide that can be posted on the guides section of the site. I am also looking for feedback on errors, details missed and other facts about Enslaving. I am also looking at compiling a list of current Demons that are immune to enslave so that fellow warlocks don't make a mistake when trying to enslave the immune mobs.

By the way, Akasha, I am not able to use the submit a guide option because my Outlook Express Program doesn't work for some reason. That is why I had to post it and I also apologize for the length. I also posted to get some feedback as well since I know this isn't all the juicy details of enslaving.

Enslave Demon Guide
Enslave Demon is a spell that is obtained at 30 and can be further improved at 44 and 58. It allows the warlock to control a demon for up to 5 minutes. It does cost a soul shard to be able to use the spell and the soul shard will be consumed even if the demon resists your spell. The maximum you can enslave a mob depends on the rank of enslave you have.

Rank 1 Enslave= +2 levels above you max.
Rank 2 Enslave= +3 levels above you max.
Rank 3 Enslave= +4 levels above you max.

For the most part, most demons are enslaveable but there are some mobs that are immune to it. You can tell when a demon is enslaved when you see chains around it. That will indicate to others and yourself that the demon is being controlled by a warlock. As time passes you may notice a glowing effect on your demon. This is the resist check that is done that indicates whether it is time for the demon to break your grasp or to continue to serve you. I think it's every 6 seconds but I am not too sure exactly.

When a demon is enslaved you will notice two things. One, the demon's colour tag will become blue and two, it will stand by you like a regular pet and serve you. Pay close attention and don't get ****y when using enslaved demons. As long as your pet is blue, you don't have to worry but that blue can almost become red instantly and leave you in a hairy situation. If you are soloing with a pet demon, don't get ****y and try and get lots of mobs on you. Your demon will pick that time to break free and stomp you to the ground most of the time because it feels like they sense when you might die.

When a demon is also enslaved you will not get to see their total health number. It will be only displayed as a percentage. However, you will be able to see a numerical value for your demon's mana bar.

A key tip when enslaving is to have plenty of potions and of course a healthstone out. Unless you are grouped with a paladin, shaman, priest, or druid, the only healing you will reliabily get is from potions and healthstones. Remember that you cannot eat food or drink water while in combat so those pots and healthstones will come in mighty handy.

Another key tip is to carry plenty of shards when enslaving, especially prior to 44 where you don't have Curse of Shadows to help increase the chances of keeping your demon on a tight leash. You can never have too many shards in my mind when enslaving because if you slack off and don't keep a steady supply of shards, you will notice you are all out when it's too late.

Curse of Shadows is a spell that warlocks get at 44 that debuffs a mob's shadow resist by 60 at 44 and 75 at 56. This helps enslave demon land more often and also increases the odds of your enslave demon spell not breaking early. COS lasts 5 minutes so you will have to re-apply it constantly to ensure that your demon serves you. Hopefully in the future we will get a mini version of COS to help the pre 44 crowd enjoy COS enslaving. Perhaps a COS that debuffs the mob's shadow resists by 45 and is obtainable at 30.

While enslaved, a demon has a 30 percent attack speed penalty and a 30 percent casting penalty for any spells they have, You can reduce both to 20 percent with the Improved Enslave Demon talent in the Demonology tree (Requires 20 points spent in Demonlogy and it has 5 ranks with a 2 percent decrease to the penalty per rank). The effect is noticable some have said and it surely help warlocks that love to charm.

Important Note: If a demon breaks free from you and a fellow player damages the demon, it will become tagged and you will not be able to re-enslave it until the player dies or runs far away from the monster's argo range. Another important thing to note is that Enslave Demon is no longer dispellable. That means that you will no longer have to worry about anyone dispelling your grasp over the demon.

A recent question has arised about Suppression and whether or not it effects Enslave Demon. Not surprisingly, it does not have an effect on Enslave Demon because it is a demonology spell and not an affliction spell. I tested it out on my character on the test server and found that there was no difference when I put 5 points into suppression. Lord Az was my test subject for this.

Currently, our two high end pets can only be controlled by Enslave Demon. The Infernal is our first and the Doomguard is the 2nd. The Infernal can be obtained at 50 and the Doomguard can be obtained at 60.

Currently, the only way to get the Infernal is to obtain the tome from the Scarshield Warlocks in LBRS. They are level 49-55 elites so the odds of obtaining it at 50 are very, very low. It is also bound when picked up so you have to be there to get it. However, on the test servers, there is a quest implemented to help warlocks get the infernal a lot easier.

The Infernal can only be summoned outdoors only and when it is summoned, a meteor will crash into the sky and damage everyone in the area for 200 damage and stun them for 2 seconds. The Infernal will stay enslaved for awhile but then you will have to re-enslave it to keep command of it. The Infernal requires a reagent known as an Infernal Stone that costs 50 silver (45 with honoured reputation) to summon. It can be found on reagent vendors found throughout the lands.

Currently, there are two ways to summon up a doomguard. The first is by using a spell known as Curse of Doom that is learned from the warlock trainers at 60. Curse of Doom curses the monster by doing 3200 shadow damage after 60 seconds expires. If the monster dies from the damage, there is a small chance that a Doomguard will spawn. This works on any kind of mob, even grey mobs so you don't have to worry about trying to find greens or yellows to get a Doomguard. Curse of Doom can be resisted and has a 1 minute cooldown. Reports say that there is a 10 percent chance to spawn a Doomguard from COD. When the doomguard spawns, it will spawn aggressive so you will have to enslave it right away unlike the infernal.

The second method of summoning the doomguard is to obtain the Grimoire of Doom from the Doomguard Commanders and Dreadlords, which are located in the Blasted Lands in the Tainted Scar area. They are level 60-61 raid elite mobs so that means you will need more than 1 group of companions to take them down. It has about a 1 percent drop rate so don't be surprised if it takes forever. The grimoire is bind on pick-up so you have to be there to loot it. The ritual requires a full party and it requires all the 4 members to right click on the portal. The spell also requires a demonic figurine as a reagent. It costs 50 silver (45 with honoured reputation) and can be found on any reagent vendors. When the ritual is completed, a random party member will die. However, durability loss will not occur but it is possible that the warlock could be killed preforming the ritual, which would leave a Doomguard that is set on killing the party. It is not known if this will be changed in the near future.

If you want to reduce the threat of a Doomguard annoying your party if the ritual decides to take your life, suggested options would be to summon the DG by a graveyard or to have a 2nd warlock with you to enslave the DG if you die. The Doomguard you summon is any warlock's game so just because you summon it, doesn't mean it is yours and yours alone. You could also soulstone yourself if you have a bad feeling that you might die and at least soulstoning yourself would mean you wouldn't have to summon a DG by a graveyard or bring along a 2nd warlock in case.

Currently on the test server, a quest to obtain the Doomguard Grimoire is available so that warlocks who are not in raiding guilds can have an easier time trying to obtain this pet.

Enslave Demon Notes (Current)
- Currently, enslaved demon is bugged and has been confirmed by GMS that it is bugged and that they are looking into it. Enslave is very streaky now and almost unfunctional. Resists are more frequent and demons are breaking far too early and far too often.
- Reports say that high lvlers enslaving lower level demons seems to have been fixed
- Currently, high lvlers trying to enslave high level demons such as the elite infernals in felwood, are getting bad results. The Infernal and Doomguard pets are also bugged and break very often.
- Reports say that the first couple enslaves are fine but after the initial two, things go too downhill to make the spell worth it at the moment.

Useful Enslave Demon UI Add-Ons
CountDoom - Puts a timer on-screen that counts up from 0 when you use Enslave Demon. Text gets bigger/red as time goes on.

ShardTracker- Tells you how many shards you currently have. This is extremely useful, both when enslaving or out in the real world. This add-on alone will help you manage shards better.

Early Practice
If you want to get some early practice then I recommend you practice enslaving the satyr in Ashenvale. You can find them in eastern Ashenvale throughout the area. Most notably are the SE corner and the NE corner not too far from the elite dragonkin. They are about 28-33 so they will be prime targets for enslaving. In one of Akasha's blogs she even mentioned that some of the satyrs will buff you with a fire shield as well. There are also a couple of quests associated with the satyrs, at least if you are an alliance warlock that is.

Another favourite spot for enslaving is Mannoroc Coven in Desolace. That place is demon central and holds the monster that many warlocks love to enslave. This monster, who has the model of a doomguard, is known as Lord Azrethoc and he is a level 40 elite. He is for a horde quest but is still an amazing demon to test your powers. He can be found roaming around the SE corner of Mannoroc Coven and usually remains not too far from a named orc, Jugkar Grim'rod, in the SE corner.

He usually hits in the hundreds and can crit for 200ish if you are lucky. He also has a special ability known as Mortal Strike that inflicts 135% weapon damage and leaves the target wounded, reducing the effectiveness of any healing by 50% for 5 seconds. If you are on a PVP server, Lord Az is a great pet to have if you catch sight of the enemy and they think Lord Az is running after you. He can lay the beat down on many players with his nice dps.

There are other demons in Mannoroc Coven that can be enslaved but none will be as impressive as Lord Az, the funnest and toughest mob you can enslave around the high 30s and low 40s. There are also a few quests related to Mannoroc Coven that you can do while honing down your skills.

Nice write-up. Thanks for the info. A couple small points:

You might add "priest" to the list of healers. Some of them have been known to cast healing spells on occassion.

Apparently, Curse of Doom is affected by talents. Mine was doing more than 3200 damage. Not much, but a little.

Curse of Doom can be resisted, too. I once had a mob take a huge hit without dying when it resisted 50% of the curse. (That was one of the felhounds in Blasted Lands for the curious.)

Its annoying when mobs resist the initial curse of doom, because it has a 1 min cooldown, regardless of if it lands or not.

Thanks Reysa and Soni. I knew I was missing someone but could not put my finger on it  Updated it to show that COD is on a 1 minute timer and can be resisted. Also updated it to show that priests can heal too

Also, I'm pretty sure you can enslave mobs up to your level + 3, not 2

Oh, maybe. Rank 1 = Level + 1, Rank 2 = Level + 2, Rank 3 = Level + 3?

I seem to remember something like that. Been 60 so long I don't remember what happened back then :P

According to Alla, Soni, it appears that Rank 1= +2, Rank 2= +3, and Rank 3= +4. So I will update the guide to reflect the change. I also added a section at the end about places you can practice enslave demon.

Of course, Soni, I could not forget our favourite demon, Lord Azrethoc.

We need to start compiling Demon Data; Location, level, Special Attacks, can we see health/mana/resists?

There are a lot of cool abilities and uses out there. I would be willing to help.

Can't see Health or Resists, but you can see mana.

Health just shows up as a % (always listed max at 100)
