The Warlock Aggro Question

Ok I am a very well geared warlock think 1750 spellpower unbuffed and 4k dps raidbuffed without heroism. I understand I should have high aggro but is anyone else experienceing unusualy high aggro from their spells. I run with mages often and their frostfire bolts that do more damage and are longer cast times do 1/2 of the aggro my incinerate does and on top of that i also have 3 dots random shadow bolts chaos bolts and the conflagerate. Raid buffed im pulling off of main tanks and even after a soulshatter in a min or 2 im able to get right back up to pulling off of the tank even with hunter misdirects and the warrior -10% aggro buff. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: The Warlock Aggro Question

Tanks should be able to generate a lot more threat. The only fight where I have agro problems is Malygos, due to the spark buffs.

Does your destro spec include Destructive Reach? I'd be surprised if it didn't.

This is unlikely. Damage directly generates agro. Mages may have some threat-reducing talents, but so do we. They also have Invisibility to reduce threat, whereas we have Soulshatter.

The final thing I can think of is to become friends with your paladins for Hand of Salvation.

Re: The Warlock Aggro Question

Don't really have too many aggro problems - like previous posters have said, aggro is not as problematic as it was in BC for tanks (even non-aoe tanks) to hold.

When the tank slips though, I usually take aggro before anyone else. I'm guessing this is due to inability to 'take a break' since with all the Dots up, I'm doing pretty consistent damage to the mob whereas a burst damage dealer can always let threat cool down a bit. It could also be due to the combo damage/healing we do (? - I'm guessing, any opinions?) and the fact that our burst damage (SB, Haunt refresh, Immo) comes on top of our Dots.

Of course I'm talking Afflic here, but that's my experience.

Just to re-iterate what the other posters have said, you should not have any aggro problem in the XPack unless you significantly out-gear your tank or your tank is very incompetent. The only time you might have aggro problem is with those aggro-resetting bosses, which there are very few in the new Xpack. Without knowing your raid make-up and WWS, all I could recommend is invest points in threat-reducing talent if you haven't, watch your Omen - halting dps if need to, and try to shatter after passing 120% of tank threat.

Given that the OP is purported to be doing 4,000 DPS and in danger of tanking, a DPS loss in this case probably isn't a bad thing.

Re: The Warlock Aggro Question

I speced affliction last night for the first time in awhile. I a speced for max dps with my gear so I didn;t take the 10% less threat, but on Kel'Thuzad I was always 2nd on threat pretty close to the tank sometimes. Every time I soul shattered it wouldn;t take very long to get back to 2nd, and since I was second I took the big frost bolt every time the rouges missed the kick. On the last attempt I died was dead for almost 1 min befor I got a brez, and even then I was back to 2nd in threat after about 45 seconds.

Re: The Warlock Aggro Question

I am not that well geared yet.. a few epics but mostly blues. I only run 5man now (trying to gear up before doing raids) but I have notice I am often getting aggro. I have taken threat reducing talents too. I thought it was only me until reading this.
