Raid Buffs, raid setup guide

Would be nice to have such a Raid Buffs guide. I didn't find anything like that, hope I didn't overlook something.

Possible Contents:

- Overview of raid buffs, grouped into non-stacking buffs, provided by class X that needs to spec into Y...
- more detailed analysis of issues that affect warlocks directly, e.g.
"should I be using CoE if there's an Ebon Plague DK / Earth and Moon druid?"
"when does demonic pact override the shaman totem"

mmo-champion has a raid composition tool that one can use to get a rough picture, but I think the details can't be taken from there. I'd like to have such a guide here. Maybe when the 3.1 fever has cooled down a bit, someone has time to work on this.

I think it should also be interesting for the more casual players so that they can better understand their potential in certain raid setups... you simply can't get 6k+ on patchwerk if half of your buffs are missing

Since i neglect my alts into irrelevence, it is always nice to be able to get information on what the other classes bring to a raid situation! I think this would be invaluable.

Mulls it over in his head... Visits MMO-Champ, opens Excel...

We'll see how this goes. It will likely take some time, but is a great idea. Wish me luck!

PS - I've never led a raid, but I have a firm grasp on my browser and a fair bit of spare time.

Re: Raid Buffs, raid setup guide

This is taken from my reply in the Warlock Stat Order - What stats do you aim for first? (Community Guide) thread.

-boomkin for his aura (5% crit), Earth and Moon (13% sp damage), and Imp. Faerie Fire (3% hit)
-unholy DK with Ebon Plague (13% sp damage*)
-s.priests with Misery and replenishment (3% hit)
-ele shammy with BL (30% haste cd), ToWrath (
crit on target + 280sp pow**) Wrath of Air (5% haste) and Elemental Oath (6% crit on proc)
-survival hunter with replenishment
-ret pally with replenishment
-deep destro lock with soul leech = replenishment
-arcane mage gives Focus Magic to one raid member
-fire mage / ISB lock puts increased crit on target (same as ToW)
-pallies to buff kings, wisdom, sanc

* 13% sp damage does NOT stack with each other, nor CoElements, HOWEVER, CoE reduces boss resistances and should still be used
** 280sp pow from ToW does NOT stack with Demonic Pact (deep demo talent). For DP to be useful, the lock needs to have sp pow greater than 2800

This is not an exhaustive list, nor is it 100% accurate. This is just off the top of my head to get some people going and so there is something here to start with. Not sure about the crit stacking either... self-buffed crits, and target debuff increased crit stack together, but not sure between each other.

Re: Raid Buffs, raid setup guide

The way the new Buff/Debuff system works, there is not much in the way of "stacking". There are 30-something exclusive categories as listed on the official forums. While the buffs and matching debuffs "stack", none of them stack on the same type (buff or debuff). That being said, the extra effects such as reduced resistances on CoE do carry over even with an Unholy DK or Boomkin in the raid.

PS - I'm working my way through the buff list now, cross-referencing with WoWHead, and have gotten somewhere into the Shammy raid buffs. Once I get all the data formatted, I should be able to piece together the wording fairly quickly (schedule permitting).

Re: Raid Buffs, raid setup guide

Just wanted to note that most min/max Boomkins won't take Imp FF, and instead leave that to the SPriests since it needs to be specced into.

A correction to the CoE portion and magical resistances. While it is true that CoE removes magical resistance, 99% of the bosses out there do NOT have any magical resistance that CoE can mitigate.

Now, all bosses have X amount of magic resistance to all schools per level above the attacker (X is believed to be 8). So, a ?? boss has 24 magical resistance to all schools. This is why you sometimes get partial resists. However, this magical resistance CANNOT be mitigated by anything, including spell pen, CoE, etc. Basically, this innate resistance is like armor for melee, but it's for a caster. It works out to roughly a 5% mitigation.

So, don't use CoE if someone is already providing the 13% spell damage increase. It's really not doing anything for you in terms of resistance.
