Re: A beginner's guide to UI?

I used to use Necrosis
I used to use LunarSphere
I used to use DrDamage
I used to use Cartographer

The problem being is that when a patch comes out, you never know if the mods you depend on will be updated. I miss some of the features, but I have been able to use macros to conserve space and duplicate some features. For the rest I've gone to other mods, though ultimately I could play with zero mods now - but I wouldn't like it.

Anywho, some macros I use.

Healthstone in combat, Conjured Mana Strudel left click and Grilled Bonescale right click out of combat:
/use [combat] Fel Healthstone; [nobutton:2] Conjured Mana Strudel; Grilled Bonescale;

Left click Fear, Right click Howl of Terror:
/cast [nobutton:2] Fear; Howl of Terror;

Left click teleport, right click summon teleport:
/cast [nobutton:2] Demonic Circle: Teleport; Demonic Circle: Summon;

Left click drain health, right click drain mana:
/cast [nobutton:2] Drain Life; Drain Mana;

You get the idea on the whole left click right click usage. As mentioned by others, you can add mod:ctrl|mod:shift|mod:alt to change the behavior again. I use a nostromo so I don't like the modifiers - means I have to go back to the keyboard...

Random mount with smart dismount: Uses a random mount you specify based on if you can fly or not. Right click to dismount if you are not flying.
#show Bronze Drake
/userandom [nobutton:2,flyable,nomounted] Bronze Drake,Onyx Netherwing Drake,Violet Netherwing Drake; [nomounted] Dreadsteed,Stormpike Battle Charger,Swift Brown Steed;
/dismount [noflying,button:2]

Random specified pet and dismiss on right click:
/userandom [nobutton:2] Azure Whelpling,Crimson Whelpling,Dark Whelpling,Egbert,Emerald Whelpling,Ghostly Skull,Phoenix Hatchling,Sinister Squashling,Wolpertinger;
/run if GetMouseButtonClicked()=="RightButton" then DismissCompanion("CRITTER") end;

Mods I use and would sorely miss:
Quartz
Pitbull
Omen
Recount
Auctioneer
Gatherer

Mods I use but could live without:
Fubar (and related addons)
Mapster
Atlas
AtlasLootEnhanced
CTRaidAssist
TrinketMenu
Others I can remember off the top of my head...

I think a guide along those lines would be very helpful.

- What are add-ons
- What's the difference between add-ons and macros
- How do you install add-ons
- Where do you get them from
- What are some more well known Warlock add-ons
- etc

Re: A beginner's guide to UI?

After looking at my post I decided to throw together a guide. I'll hopefully have it up soon.

No-one ever mentions OPIE, my favourite addon.

Re: A beginner's guide to UI?

I'm seeing alot of love for Bartender. I've never used it. I have been reasonably happy with Dominoes (was Bongoes 1/2).

Just wondering if anyone has tried both and their take on it, and why one is better for them.

Re: A beginner's guide to UI?

Many thanks for your replies people.
I do use macros, practically every button has multiple functions and set up in such a way that I never need to click or even see an icon in combat, took me a lot time to get it like that though. But I have never used dottimers, castbars or stuff that removes all the clutter on the screen, and have a high level resistance against fiddeling with stuff, when I get home from work I want to play. Updating DBM,ORA,Recount and Omen is enough of a bother and in my gaming experience the more mods you use, the more critical errors and maintainence you get.

So I guess what I wanted was an UI for dummies, where to begin, addons with a lot of functionality easy to install, maintain and customize and I think your responses was what I was looking for.
