Warlock Leveling to 80 - AE dotting as SL/FG (Video Inc)
Introduction I put together a video to illustrate what is definitely my favorite way to level in Wrath: Warlock Leveling: Aff/Demo in WotLK By Jynxx While The Burning Crusade leveling was strong with a healer, just casting instant-cast dots and using siphon life, along with instant Howl of Terror, Wrath of the Lich King gives us some very very nice... |

Love the leveling strat and video. I just have one question in regards to taking down elites. Why is it more beneficial to summon the voidwalker out to tank elites rather than just having the FG tank them? |

Except for felguard vs voidwalker, how does this differ from old style sl/sl? Has siphon life improved significantly? Relying on siphon life to survive several mobs at once is old style but the video makes it seem as if there is something new and exceptional to it now. The new instant cast cone dot is cool but that is not talent based. What is the difference between old and new schools? Felguard has more taunt and can take a bigger beating. |

This is what I assumed, too. I'm just wondering why Jynxx recommends summoning the VW to tank elites instead of the FG... |

Think he's referring to the fact that Master Demonologist with a voidwalker outs nets the pet 5% additional damage mitigation, so it's seems it's a toss up, tanking wise. Pet that hits like a mack truck glyphed and empowered with 5~35% damage mitigation (Felguard) v. pet that hits like a 3 day old kitten wearing mh'itens (hehe) with TONS of health glyphed and empowered and 10~40% damage mitigation (Voidwalker). ![]() Tailor to encounter imo.

Re: Warlock Leveling to 80 - AE dotting as SL/FG (Video Inc)
I roll with another warlock when we level and our strat is to use this type of build as the Tank/Healer and the Other Lock will be all about the Dots. We can send a VW and a Felguard into every mob we can see pull em all back and either Dot em and /lol or seed them into oblivion. Ill probably end up taking every Demon buffing/defensive talent I can get for the xpac and let my partner take every dot buffing talent. I dont think there will be a single quest we wont be able to handle - including the elite (recommended 5 players) quests. I cant wait *** Information added 3 Minutes and 2 Seconds later... *** Quote:
as far as Elites go, the VW has the armor to deal with the crits and damage spikes that a felguard simply cant handle without constant Healthfunnel and maybe a regular healer. He's tough, don't get me wrong, but the VW is the better pet hands down vs Elites.

Re: Warlock Leveling to 80 - AE dotting as SL/FG (Video Inc)
I just respecced 20/41/0 and parked in stormwind, I'm all set for leveling. I took the felguard out for a spin on quel'danis, and I have to say, it's still a decent spec. Jynx is absolutely right, though, about kill speed. Taking out three mobs takes only marginally longer than taking out one. You'd take out one at a time faster with destro to be sure, with the faster-casting and harder-hitting nukes, but when you're hitting things in the AoE, you've got lots going on here. The only change I'd make to the suggestions is, when you get lowish on life, send the FG in to hit somebody and drain them dry. That and the nice regen on fel armor will contrive to keep you pretty well topped off the whole time. I'm still a little hinky on mana feed. It's possible that 1/3 isn't sufficient to keep the FG in mana, but that's just tweaking. Level 71 is siphon life, but after that, I could either put points into demo, getting more mana feed and a few other good FG talents, or I could keep working toward harder-hitting affliction spells. The key to the build working throughout the 70-80 grind is making sure that your affliction spells hit hard. It's a dot+drain tactic, I only really shadowbolt when nightfall or the glyph procs (but between the two, and with multiple corruptions ticking, it procs a LOT). I started with a slightly different build from Jynx, I put 2/2 nightfall (as above) and full suppression. Suprression is the difference between living and dying sometimes when you accidentally aggro a red mob. I'm planning on putting points into empowered corruption early in the leveling process, and will end up in pretty much the same place at the end. One other talent to consider, although I'm not sure what I'd remove to make it work, is improved drain soul. With the very excellent drain soul mechanic at level 77, we will probably find ourselves draining a LOT in the later levels. IDS means a significant mana gain. Worth considering, but only really if you find your recharge fights coming too often. |

This is an excellent thread. Coincidentally, the world first 80 toon was a Warlock with a very similar build. I would like to propose a slight update to your information with different specs. Starter at 70: (21/40/0) Target at 79: (29/41/0) I think for the starter area, you will level much faster with SL/VW than Felguard/no SL. Also, you leave out recommendations for Glyphs. Right from the start, I think Glyph of Siphon Life is a must. The second major glyph slot is up for grabs imo. Maybe Glyph of Felguard or just keep Glyph of Corruption for the instant SB casts.
