Re: Gearing Your Warlock (2.4 Edition)

Eh probably not as I don't want to rate armories 24/7. I'm probably going to do this like once every month for a weekend (usually when I'm already staying up late for tests and such).

For the weekend until Sunday, I will be rating armories thorougly. If you want a look over and suggestions, post your armory and PvE content you have access to (be specific) and I'll give you an overview.

Re: Gearing Your Warlock (2.4 Edition)

The thread can be closed off Sunday...

I just thought instead of derailing the guide thread. And that way, if we close the thread off Sunday "until next time", people will know it's over. Otherwise you'll find people won't read what ever page that says you're done, and keep posting in this one after Sunday...

Up to you of course, just offering my insight.

Yeah, I think I'll just keep it in this thread. I did this a while ago on pages 27-29.

I never asked help with my gear, but now that things are getting serious, I think I need an experts advice, so this is thé oportunity.

My Armory http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sh...enholdt&n=Sita

My Guild (finally) is running Kara on a weekly base, sadly we're only able to run it once a week due to busy personal lives, its kinda a casual-casual guild . Usually we get passed Curator wipeless, we're working on the rest of the Bosses.

I just spend 60 badges on Studious Wraps (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33586), I picked from the Gearing My Warlock thread. Wednesday Handwraps of the Flowing Tought (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28507) dropped, so now I'm not sure I picked the right item to spend my badges on....

Anyway my next upgrades are the headpiece I can get with Battleground Honor and Marks and I'll gem it with Chaotic Skyfire, and I'm saving the Blessings Deck to get the Darkmoon Card.

As for my Robes and Shoulders I have no idea what to get.

For weapon I'm thinking to replace my Battleground Staff with 1h and Offhand Badge of Justice rewards from the Gearing My Warlock threat.

Currently we're not ready to go Gruul or ZA in the guild so upgrades should come from cash, badges, heroics or Kara, I think.

AS far as FSW goes, I'm Alchemist/Herbies and prefer to stick with it, I do have a 375 tailor/ 340 Enchanting Mage Alt, but can't help me with BoP gear ofcourse.

My Gemming and Enchanting are a bit off a mess too, I suppose

So all suggestions on upgrading my gear are more than welcome. I think I didn't do so bad up to now, since I'm one of the better geared in my Guild, but like I said we're really a casual Guild.

But I want to avoid spending tons of cash and Badges on the wrong upgrades...

So Canadianpimp, I already love you for the advise that will come

Love Sita

Re: Gearing Your Warlock (2.4 Edition)

@Sita

Not bad so far. Let's start with your talent spec. Being Affliction is a good choice, but two things stood out to me. One was you skipped Dark Pact. This is one of the defining talents of Affliction, because you can regain mana without losing health via Life Tap (just leave an imp out phase shifted, there are plenty Affliction threads around). The second thing that stood out us that you took Ruin and forgoed UA. This normally isn't a good idea and is a DPS loss. Here is a spec that I recommend respeccing too. I kept 5/5 Fel Concentration for farming purposes, and left you two points to play with. I suggest putting those points into either Imp. HS, 1 in Shadow Embrace and 1 in CoEx for PvP, or into Intensity. Imp Curse of Agony can be skipped.

Now for your gear. Overall you are fine for all of Kara, but I'll show you possible upgrades you should be looking out for.

Head: Your headpiece is decent for Kara. You mentioned upgrading it with a PvP helm. I wouldn't do that, as you have better options and a better place to spend your honor points. One option is to wait until your guild kills Prince and the Voidheart Crown drops for you. A better (although more expensive) option is to farm up a Spellstrike Hood. Both helms are good though, and I advise against using points against getting a PvP helm since they aren't that great.
Neck: The SSO necklace is good and is will last through Kara. Rittsyn's Lost Pendant off trash might be an upgrade though if you are Affliction, so keep on the lookout for that.
Shoulders: Your shoulders are in definite need of an upgrade. Make your way over to Magister's Terrace. The Fel-tinged Mantle drops in Heroic, and the Duskhallow Mantle drops in regular. Both are pretty much the same in DP value.
Back: You'll probably be fine with this cape as Affliction. Hope for Prince's cape in the future, but this should be fine.
Chest: Scarlet Sin'dorei Robes out of Heroic Magister's Terrace is a big upgrade for you. I would definitely go for that as Nightbane's chest in Kara is pretty underwhelming.
Wrist: Vindicator's Silk Cuffs is where you should spend those next PvP honor points. Skip the hood. Maiden's bracers aren't good, don't even waste the money to enchant them.
Hands: Don't worry, you made the right choice with these being better than Attumen's gloves. Enchant them with 20 spell damage though.
Belt: You're good until the expansion.
Pants: If you were to farm one more thing, you should probably get Spellstrike Pants. They are twice as good as the ones you have now, no exaggeration. Nothing until T5 pants even comes close to these.
Boots: You should probably look for upgrades for these too soon also. They're of course good for Kara though. Kara has slight upgrades from Maiden and Opera, but I would actually eventually set sights for Boots of Incantations from badges. They're much better. However, don't pass up an opportunity on the boots from Opera or Maiden if you can get them though.
Ring: Your Violet Signet should be fine for now and you can keep that. Probably the first badge upgrade you should get though is Fused Nethergon Band for 60 badges. It's one of the best rings in the game and isn't too expensive at 60 badges.
Trinket: Darkmoon Card: Crusade is definitely a good investment as you said you're working towards. Definitely get rid of both your trinkets though (both aren't that good). I would go for Timbal's Focusing Crystal off the third boss in Heroic Magister's Terrace. It's one of the best Affliction lock trinkets, probably a little better than the Darkmoon Card: Crusade.
Weapon: You're honestly probably fine with the staff for now. Maybe in the future look towards a badge off-hand, but wait on that until you get Prince's Nathrezim Mindblade.
Wand: You're fine here to be honest. Wait for Aran's Tirisfal Wand of Ascendency if you really want an upgrade, you can go to Heroic Underbog for The Black Stalk.

Your biggest needs:
1. Shoulders
2. Pants
3. Trinkets
4. Chest
5. Second ring slot

As a final concern, you gemmed pretty poorly in a lot of your stuff. 12 stamina gems are a pretty big waste of a gem slot. Health isn't that important to a warlock and you should have plenty of it, especially since you are using an imp as Affliction. 8 crit gems are also a big waste since crit isn't that big of a stat for Affliction. Re-read my post on gemming. For Affliction, generally:
Yellow - Veiled Noble Topaz or Great Dawnstone
Blue - Glowing Nightseye
Red - Veiled Noble Topaz or Runed Living Ruby

For the weekend until Sunday, I will be rating armories thorougly. If you want a look over and suggestions, post your armory and PvE content you have access to (be specific) and I'll give you an overview.

Well, our guild does Kara every week, still haven't killed Netherspite, so i can't say it's "on farm". May be tomorrow we'll start trying ZA. no 25 man content (not enough people).

Next upgrades i was thinking of are: Boots of Incantatios, Fel-tinged Mantle and Ruby drape of Mysticant. Maybe badge Pants, it won't break spellstrike set - i'm JC/miner and don't have it And not sure after that won't it be better to change to voidheart gloves and helm for set bonus...

Oh, I'm Affliction atm, but i may change to destro, when i stack some more damage and crit. Already hit capped.
Gemming some potent noble topazes, cause trying to stack crit for destro.

It would be very nice of you to give some advises, because i just don't know what to do after i get those upgrades...

Re: Gearing Your Warlock (2.4 Edition)

Hi
Armory: http://armory.wow-europe.com/charact...zune&n=Expired

My guild is in the final stage of Kara, just the flying chicken bones to sort out, and we soon to start playing with ZA

I'm not a big poster on here, but im a heavy reader . At the moment im following some advice i got when i posted under 'Rate the lock above thread", but im after some fine tuning if possible.

Atm im saving my badges for Fused Nethergon Band (need 16 more), then its an off-hand at which point will swap to S2 spell dagger (honor at S4).

My gloves are ok but i do need an upgrade (going for the ring instead of the badge gloves as the ring will offer me a better dps upgrade?). Never been lucky with Attumen's gloves or the T4 ones, still i can hope.

I have started a saving fund for the Anger-Spark Gloves [Anger-Spark Gloves - Item - World of Warcraft, but hoping on a drop If i get the drop, I aim to carry on sorting my blessings deck out.

I'm running sha'tar instance for my head enchant, once i get this I can have a re-gem session and will be capped so can swap gems around.

When i'm capped i will need to swap to a different affliction build (drop my points in Suppression) or swap to a destro build, but this is where im lost tbh, as not sure what to do for the best, swap to destro and build for that, or carry on with afflic and get ready for the swap??

Over to you, poke and prod to you hearts content

Thanks

Re: Gearing Your Warlock (2.4 Edition)

Hello
i dont really post alot but i've read alot and i have to say your guide is one of the best
anyways here's my armory:http://www.wowarmory.com/character-t...hilas&n=Glexar

im actually been a 70 for about a month or so and
my guild just started kara afew weeks ago and they've downed everything.well i'm not as fortunate as them as i cant raid with them due to the time clashes with my personal life so i've run kara only once and it PUG and we stopped till Opera.but i got the gloves on the very first boss in my very first run
but anyways yeah i wanna switch my dagger since i dont think it gives out alot of dps but i dont want to do arenas.its just too long to farm the arena points.
plus i dont know whether should i gem spelldamage/spell crit gems, spell damage/haste gems or just pure spell damage gems.
and i dont know when should i spec to destructionn.
im gonna replace my trinket very soon as soon as i have the badges for icon of the silver crescent and hopefully timbal's will drop for me in h mgt

i would really appreciate comments from you and things i need to do to improve
thanks

Re: Gearing Your Warlock (2.4 Edition)

Thanks for the quick and clear feedback, I was lost and now I'm definitly back on track.
A few comments below ...

My Talent build :

I know it's not a 'standard' Affliction Build but up to now it was quiet fun to play, the reason I choose this mixed build is is, I leveled to 70 as a Demonlock, and I wanted to try something else, to run 70 instances. I wanted a taste of Affliction but also wanted the nuking power of Shadowbolts and since I'm a curious girl, I tried to create my own build. At the time I did a lot of Pve quests solo and some BG, loosing my demon talents made me feel weak and naked at first, but I grew into the dotting/sb casting and currently I'm in the 'confort' zone, able to do good DPS in comparison with other classes I run with, IMP SB and Ruin really help at DPS.
However lately I'm wondering what a more pure build would be like, so i'm gonna experiment a bit with full affliction and take the advice you gave me, and might even run aaround full destro just to see what it feels like, because how warm and fuzzy the comfort zone might be, it an expantion of knowledge to try new things.

My Gems :

Here I still live with the Historic gems from when I hit 70, the oblivion shoulders and robe were the first items I got and that explain the poor gemming, it's from back in the days I was unknowing the Den even existed I added to 2 haste/sta green gems recently since it was the best gems I could find (calculated all the gems with your DP score, which I like my new religion) and at the time it was the best I could find. now I have a shopping list for gems and god do I love shopping ...

My Gear :

Thanks for saving me from the mistake of buyiing the BG Headpiece, and the clear prioritization will help me a lot.
One question, apparently I made a mistake on equipping the Bands of Nefarious Deeds, since I have Verterans Silk Cuffs in my PvP gear (basicly the honored set from outland with +resi gem for when I got to the Shattered Sun dailies, since it's ganking heaven for the Horde on my server).
Is it worth the Marks and honor to get Vindicator of Veterans (about 400DP) and the ones I have are already enchanted ?
If not what is there in BG gear thats usefull since I have about 20k honor and tons of marks ?

Again my most humble thanks for your advice ...

Love Sita
