shouldn't the massive red text read 446 then not 447

you're going to be amazed at how many people will bend over backwards trying to get that last point and miss the whole idea of getting to a total of 17%
In the article the author used 26.23 hit rating = 1% hit.
WowWiki shows that 26.32 hit rating = 1% hit. (Spell hit - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft)
Thottbot shows that 25.40 hit rating = 1% hit. (Spell To Hit Rating - Thottbot: World of Warcraft )

Now, I'm more inclined to believe WowWiki.. but a friend with a level 80 had 75 hit rating and is getting 2.86% hit. 75/2.86=26.223 Which implies that Wowwiki is incorrect.

So:

17*26.23 = 445.91 ~ 446
14*26.23 = 367.22 ~ 368 (hit rating needed after Suppression/Cataclysm)

Re: What's the Hit cap Mr. Wolf?

My first post on this forum just to thank you for the effort and the clear guide :-)

Also, somebody was asking about how Faerie Fire, Misery and Heroic presence influence the hit cap. There's been a link posted but I'll just put here what little information I can offer here.

Taken from World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums -> Spell Hit (as of 3.0.3)
Quote:
Improved Faerie Fire - Your Faerie Fire spell also increases the chance the target will be hit by spell attacks by 3%, and increases the critical strike chance of your damage spells by 3% on targets afflicted by Faerie Fire.

Misery - Your Shadow Word: Pain, Mind Flay and Vampiric Touch spells also increase the chance for harmful spells to hit by 3% lasting 24 sec, and increases the damage of your Mind Blast, Mind Flay and Mind Sear spells by an amount equal to 15% of your spell power.

Heroic Presence - Increases chance to hit with all spells and attacks by 1% for you and all party members within 30 yards.

Imp FF is a Druid talent in the Balance tree, Misery is a Priest talent in the Shadow tree, and Heroic Presence is a racial ability of Draeneis (passive aura buff). Do note! Imp FF and Misery do not stack meaning if you have both a properly spec'd blance druid and shadow priest in the raid with you you will not recieve a 6% increased chance to hit. Heroic Presence on the other hand does stack with Imp FF and Misery so if you have a Draenei and Boomkin and/or Spriest in raid you will recieve a bonus 4% chance to hit.
Keeping in mind that you can only benefit from the effect of either Misery or Improved Feary Fire I arrive at these numbers:

Heroic Presence:
26.23 x 16 = 419.68 = 420

Misery OR Improved Faerie Fire:
26.23 x 14 = 367.22 = 368

Misery OR Improved Faerie Fire AND Heroic Presence:
26.23 x 13 = 340.99 = 341
(All based on a level 80 character ofcourse).

You can certainly link to the information yes. Don't just copy and paste it. And although you have, and written credit - it's usually considered polite to atually link to where you took the information from so people know and can come and read the full information. You might want to take note of the fine print at the very bottom of the site.

I second these calculations. However, what about talents that increase hit chance? With current threat generation being so high, you could probably spec both Suppression and Cataclysm and knock off another 3% needed hit rating, bringing the total needed to 262.319 or 263. However, since shatter falls intelligently in the demonology tree (boggle) it's chance to hit will be 3% lower than max. Again, with current threat levels, a missed shatter might not be that big a deal - later on it may very well make the difference between pushing max dps and holding back.

Re: What's the Hit cap Mr. Wolf?

threat is coming back in to play already, i can easily push the 110% max range with current gear on a very well geared tank, and have watched other locks in the guild have to shatter alot sooner than me. I can honestly say i have yet to have a shatter miss though even well below hit cap. One other thing, yes it is important to get hit capped as soon as you can, however the number one stat you should stack is stilll spell power.

Re: What's the Hit cap Mr. Wolf?

As of today I have 458 spell hit. All of my gear is quest rewards with one rep. reward. Check out my armory for details (sandwitch, level 80, Gilneas). I would link it, but don't know how 'cause I'm a noob!

The point I'd like to make is you can hit the cap without raiding at all!

Re: What's the Hit cap Mr. Wolf?

ok, I was T6 lock and had the old hit cap met but without my other stats (spelldmg/hsate/crit) suffering. Now im trying to get my head around the new content and figure out what kit i can start to gather i am worried that new items of kit will sacrifice spelldmg for this new high hit level. So Can i ask what might be a nub question?

Quote:
At level 80, the highest level mob currently present is level 83 (e.g. all Wrath of the Lich King raid bosses), a level 80 caster has an effective spell hit rating cap of 446.
does this mean that to fight raid bosses you need 446 hit (level 83 mobs) but for all other fights such as heroics and raidtrash you only need 157 (level 82 mobs)?

And therefore can you confirm (or deny) that a set of kit with 446 hit is only required for raid boss fights, but that if you wanted to spend the rest of your time in wow running about with only 157 hit and lots of spelldmg/haste that it would be OK in theory?

(at least until raiding/heroics begin to pay off with some nice loot drops that raises my hit AND my spelldmg/haste)

sorry if its a nub qu but im only just looking into the idea of kit replacement... and its scary the idea of giving up my T6s :(

Re: What's the Hit cap Mr. Wolf?

Danjal,

It depends on your raid composition if you have classes that can contribute to your shortfall in hit cap (refer to the OP to know which classes you need in a raid environment) then yes if not then you need to maximize your hit rating in order to compensate.
