The guide to raiding spell rotation and raiding stats.

Hey guys, i'll attempt to collate the vast amount of information in this thread in the shortest / easiest to read form.

Firstly i'd like to note the fact that blizzard did not release most of the formulaes for anything in the game. As such, ALL the information, statistics and formulaes are based on empirical evidence and collated by the community around the world. As such, we've gotta keep in mind that, untill Columbus find the Americas, we might be thinking that the world is...

casting immo gives me a 20dps increase on paper

in RL raids on a near perfect boss condition (read: attumen tank and spank fight ) it's about 10 to 18dps

if you don't cast immo then you'll nerf your dps

Agreed, I use immolate and out-dps other locks who neglect it. There's no reason not to use it cept on Al'ar.

Great post btw.

I have 2 pieces of t5 the rest is t4/kara gear, when would you suggest moving to a demo spec? I've been tempted because of arena, but I hate to give up affliction. I've been aff since day 1 and love the play style.

I do have one small issue with it, though:Pretty much any way you cut it you will still end up taking the same amount of time to get your spells up on the target. You can't truly save time doing this. It might be worth adding that many people cast UA/corr together since they have the same duration (without the 2 piece t4).
I could be wrong here, but what I think he means is this. If you cast an instant cast dot for example, the spell is cast and you have a pause where you cannot cast a second dot again, the Global Cool Down (GCD). However if you cast any spell with a cast time such as Immo, the moment the spell is cast you can cast a dot instantly. The GCD then feels as if its still in effect after the Immolate but it makes it feel as if you got 2 spells cast in the time span of one GCD.

Of course this isn't accurate, and is my psychological than anything. For anyone that is waiting after a spell is cast or putting a buffer before casting the next spell, you do not need to on spells that have a cast time. the GCD starts the moment you begin casting and often expires before the spell finishes. I often use this technique anyways as it does feel as if I'm saving time and getting my spells out faster. Often you can even begin casting your next spell before the previous is finished, look up the addon called Quartz for a visual representation of this.

Re: The guide to raiding spell rotation and raiding stats.

AWESOME!

But: Why does the recommended build for Affliction not include Malediction even you recommend Curse of Shadows? IHot, while it very handy in certain situations, could be rather skipped imho.

As soon as you got a little hit (Spellstrike, FSW, Girdle of Ruination, all with Veiled Noble Topaz and Great Dawnstone) you could go Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

so I can cast immo and say SL in one go? granted I already do that I just never pay attention to the GCD.... something to observe next time i log on.

@neej

SE is nice but not really that game breaking imo and malediction is kind of wasted if you're in 10man unless you're stacked on shadow casters.

Im my case, casting immolate will lower my dps according to Leulier. And i guess that happens because i have about 300 more shadow damage than i have fire damage. (blame my FSW, orb of soul-eater and ritsynn´s lost pendant)

And I too, would like to know when to spec demo.

My gear is mostly crafted/badges and i have abou 1300 shadow damage raid buffed with 202 spell hit (10% crit though)

do you think i should already be demo?

Re: The guide to raiding spell rotation and raiding stats.

With 2tier 5, you are more than adequate enough to go demo. In reality, you don't need the 2tier 5 bonus to go demo, but it means you need a SP in your group with VE to heal your felguard in fights like VR and Lurker and the trinket from solarian is amazing. I have the gloves from Leo and jockeying for the shoulders with the other locks, mages and hunters in our raid group. There were peeps still in blue or pvp shoulders that were in front of me, but hoping to get them in the next few downings of VR to complete my 2t5. My felguard stays alive quite well in most fights and if I can't get a SP for VR, I just sacc him for the 10% damage bonus and 2% mana regen/4secs. I like that better than the 15% from succi as the mana regen will help a little.

One thing, though, I would suggest with going Demo is to up your spell hit. You will be relying a lot more on your immo and shadow bolts for damage and you don't want them missing a lot.
