Redmage's 3.0.2 Destro PvP suggestions

For those of you interested in destro PvP after the big 3.0 patch next week. Try the following specs for your 70s.

Generic Destro build (0/14/47)

Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

Gains Backdraft, Soul Link, and it is very much the spiritual successor to the popular 7/7/37, 7/7/47 build. With corruption now instant, this will play similarly to the old destro...

Re: Redmage's 3.0.2 Destro PvP suggestions

Hi Skinnertor, I don't think putting seduce on a separate DR is OP anymore. With the amount of immunes, the cap of 10 sec cc, various gems/talent reduction of cc time, and DR, putting it on separate timer with fear will not be OP. This is not going to change a whole lot though, I mean, if they are giving DK 10 sec of CC immune via Anti magic shell, add 15 sec of fear/charm immune from lichborne, and pally retain their 12 sec divine shield, the succy, at the end of the day, is not going to matter too much in serious arena fights. In BGs, it is useful as these abilities and trinkets could be on cooldown.

The succy remains very useful vs rogues, as their only near immune mechanic is CLOS. Pre-BC, rogues used CLOS to clear dots and to get back in range, in otherwords, defensively. Now, rogues use CLOS offensively when they stun lock/ambush and open on you. With lag, reaction time, it is quite normal to lose 50% health by the time I trinket. Strong rogues can now just CLOS and continue with 5 sec of free time. This is especially apparently when they sap you while you are on your mount. That is why I am testing out this VW thing, which does not have to deal with CLOS or similar immunities.

Pre-Wrath of the Lich King, I used to hunt rogues in BGs for fun and challenge. Sadly, that is not something I would do for a while.....

Its not about nuking, its about keeping your opponent disabled. Pyroclasm procs from Conflagrate and Soulfire. Shadow Fury, Fear, Seduce, Deathcoil and even keeping distance better now that we have Demonic Teleport.
This is the kind of comment that proves you have spent time and understand destro. Although i must warn you that the first 2 weeks are going to be pretty tough... :-)

Great thread!

havent even stepped into LK yet but will be back soon(working alot) and i check this site to keep up on our apparently now harder to play class. I love destro and have never used another spec. At the end of BC just started doing arena's so i havn"t really gotten my feet wet yet but it sounds like with the new talents and spells for locks a well trained destro could be very useful in alll arena's. Keep us updated on your pvp/arena trials with the VW spec Redmage i'll be asking alot of questions when i start back up to start pvp'ing. With a good partner the VW spec sounds like a fun spec to play around with good luck! hope to get a break from RL soon

Re: Redmage's 3.0.2 Destro PvP suggestions

Hi Remma, thank you for the feedback.

Destro in 3.0.8 has improved, though it is now harder to play due to improvement in other classes. Depending on your point of view, it can be challenging or frustrating.

The VW build remains more of a one dimensional build. It will help you win more 1v1, and last a bit longer in BG zergs. But you will really miss the utility the succy and the felhunter will provide. So if you are in a team environment and can get a bit of healing, I would probably not use the VW. One of my reason of going VW for a little while was that I was doing 2v2 with a prot warrior.....lol.

Please see my 3.0.8 thread for the latest updates.
