Add-on and Macro guides Contrary to popular belief, Warlocks don't bind all keys to Shadowbolt and roll their face across the keyboard. It takes skill to be a really great Warlock. If you want to make your life a little easier, read some of the guides in here.

Pet Macro Guide (Version 3.3)

In an effort to gain better control of my pets, I came to the Pet Macro’s section of the Warlock’s Den. I read every macro there, and tried to wrap my head around what each of them do for me, and to my pets. They pretty much summed up everything that each pet needed. The Voidwalker has Consume Shadows and Sacrifice, the Succubus is good for her Seduction, and the Felhunter for his Devour Magic and Spell Lock abilities. I added these macros to my game, but something just didn’t seem complete.

This guide is aimed at completing the macros you may never have known you needed, and helps you dump Necrosis if all you are using it for is demon summons. I will show you how to reduce each of your pets to a single button macro for all of their relevant abilities… including the Demonologist talents “Fel Domination” and “Soul Link”.

A few notes are in order however. The “#showtooltip” command is the only case sensitive command in these macros. It must be all lower case. The name of the tooltip, if specified, is not case sensitive. Also, the “/stopmacro” line is there just to stop the macro from continuing while you are summoning a demon. Once the demon is summoned, click it again to use the relevant abilities.

Pet control is what it's all about here. Given that most of our pets are melee, that puts them in harm's way more often. We need to protect them, and thus keep our DPS up. Here's a macro I keep bound to a mouse button for calling my pets back:

Pet Yo-Yo Macro
Code:
/petdefensive
/petpassive [@pettarget,exists]
This macro will put your pet on defensive if he is not in combat, and passive if he is. Click once to tell your pet to stop attacking and either follow you or go to his "stay" point, and click again to resume combat. He will not actually begin combat again until you land a spell or he gets hit.

Version 2:

This is two separate macros I keep bound to my mousewheel. I find this setup to work best as it's a bit more intuitive and allows you to change pet targets by rolling your mousewheel up.
Mousewheel UP is for returning to combat, with an Imp twist:
Code:
/petdefensive
/petattack [@target,harm,combat]
/petautocastoff [pet:Imp] Phase Shift
And Mousewheel DOWN is defensive following with and Imp twist:
Code:
/petpassive
/petautocaston [pet:Imp] Phase Shift
First up is your trusty, albeit mouthy, Imp. His one useful on-demand ability is the Fire Shield. In groups or raids, this little guy can toss a Fire Shield on the tank for a little extra aggro between this firebolts. Here’s the breakdown:

Imp Macro
Code:
#showtooltip
/cast [nopet:Imp] Summon Imp
/stopmacro [nopet:Imp]
/cast [button:2,@player] Fire Shield
/cast [@mouseover,help][help][@targettarget,help] Fire Shield
This will summon your Imp if he is not out. If he is out, it will cast Fire Shield on you with a right click (not normally what you want). On a left click with the Imp out, it will cast Fire Shield on the first helpful target in this order: Mouseover, Target, Target of Target. This way, you can target someone in your party / raid using their unit frame, or your target (if it is helpful), or it falls through to whoever is tanking your target (hopefully not you!).

Upon reaching 10th level, the second demon you learn to summon is your personal body guard for the next 40 levels or so. He is very frequently used while leveling or farming. Once out of combat, you might need to heal him up a bit with his Consume Shadows ability, but if you find yourself in a really tight spot in combat, Sacrifice is your “bubble” while you run (or resummon a demon). I include on this macro the two demonologist talents in dark green as they might be useful to some PvP-specced people or the brave few that use this guy to off-tank. If you don’t have these talents, you may safely delete the dark green lines, although they will do no harm if you keep them. Here’s the breakdown:

Voidwalker Macro
Code:
#showtooltip Summon Voidwalker
/cast [nopet:Voidwalker,combat][nopet:Voidwalker,btn:2] Fel Domination
/cast [nopet:Voidwalker] Summon Voidwalker
/stopmacro [nopet:Voidwalker]
/cast [btn:2] Soul Link; [combat] Sacrifice; [nocombat] Consume Shadows
If your Voidwalker is not out, it will summon him normally out of combat, or in 0.5 seconds in combat (or with a right click). If the Voidwalker is out, right clicking will cast Soul Link. Left clicking with the Voidwalker out will cast Consume Shadows if out of combat, or Sacrifice if you are in combat. I explicitly called for the Summon Voidwalker tooltip in the first line so I would see something other than Fel Domination, since my Felguard starts the same way. If you shorten it to just “#showtootip” it will show you Fel Domination when the Voidwalker is not out, and the icons of the relevant abilities when he is out.

At 20th level, you learn to summon your first PvP pet, the Succubus. She can lure in your enemies since they think you’re alone and vulnerable, and then trap them with her world renowned powers of seduction. So we include a macro here that does just that. The meat of this macro came from Tahl, Jaedenar Euro PvP. I have adapted the “No Focus Seduce” macro to be a One Button Pet macro by adding in the second line. Here’s the breakdown:

Succubus Macro
Code:
#showtooltip Summon Succubus
/cast [nopet:Succubus,combat][nopet:Succubus,btn:2] Fel Domination
/cast [nopet:Succubus] Summon Succubus
/stopmacro [nopet:Succubus]
/petfollow
/petattack [@pettarget]
/cast [@pettarget,btn:1][@target,btn:2] Seduction
This macro summons your succubus if she is not out. If your succubus is out, it will seduce her target on a left click, and your target on a right click. To chain seduce the same mob, target them, then right click. Left clicking will break Seduction and recast on the same target. Right clicks will change to your current target and seduce that instead. If seduction breaks or runs out, the Succubus will begin attacking her target. I included the standard Fel Domination quick summoning for PvP.

Once you reach 30th level, you finally get your puppy, the Felhunter. He seems to be everybody’s favorite PvP pet because of the abilities he has. This pet and the Succubus are the most likely to need micro-management. The abilities we wish to control on our Felhunter are Devour Magic and Spell Lock. As warlocks, we are often tasked with taking out the healer in PvP, so I’ll put Spell Lock on the left click, and Devour Magic on the right. Here’s the breakdown:

Felhunter Macro
Code:
#showtooltip
/cast [nopet:Felhunter,combat][nopet:Felhunter,btn:2] Fel Domination
/cast [nopet:Felhunter] Summon Felhunter
/stopmacro [nopet:Felhunter]
/cast [mod:alt,@mouseover,exists][mod:alt][mod:shift,@player] Devour Magic;
[@pettarget][] Spell Lock
This macro, like the ones above it, will summon your Felhunter if he is not out. Due to a major overhaul of this macro, I was able to squeeze in Devour Magic and Spell Lock, as well as the Fel Domination quick summoning. On a left click (or keypress), it will spell lock your pet's target, or your target if he doesn't have one. If you hold <alt>, he will Devour Magic from your mouseover -- useful for picking someone from your unit frames without switching targets. If you don't have a mouseover target, he will Devour Magic normally (his target first, or you if that fails, or him if you're clean too). If you hold <shift>, he will Devour Magic off of you.

At level 50, you have enough talent points to get the 41 point Demonology talent “Summon Felguard”. If you choose to (re)spec this far into Demonology, this guy becomes your new best friend. Many other warlocks have specced for the Felguard to master the Outlands and Northrend prior to endgame raiding, and some well beyond. With the Felguard, we wish to control his Intercept ability. It is a very nice 3 second stun, but it is only available every 30 seconds. And as with the Voidwalker, above, I’ve included the Demonologist talents “Fel Domination” and “Soul Link”, but they are not colored as those are a staple of the build to get this demon. Here’s the breakdown:

Felguard Macro
Code:
#showtooltip Summon Felguard
/cast [nopet:Felguard,combat][nopet:Felguard,btn:2] Fel Domination
/cast [nopet:Felguard] Summon Felguard
/stopmacro [nopet:Felguard]
/cast [btn:2] Soul Link; [btn:1,@focus,harm][btn:1] Intercept
If your Felguard is not out, it will summon him normally on a left click, or in 0.5 seconds in combat or with a right click. If the Felguard is out, it will try to intercept the focus target on a left click, and casts Soul Link with a right click. This is useful when trying to stop a focused caster from saving the day (and thus ruining yours). I keep a curse macro bound to /petattack to keep the distance right for Intercept to work.

Re: Pet Macro Guide

Getting rid of the "Pet Macro Page" to replace the link with the guide above. Copy + Pasting info here for those wanting any macros not listed above:

Succubus Seduce
Upon use, the macro will Focus your target, and have your succubus Seduce it. When used for the second time, and your Focused target, i.e. the Seduction target, is alive, it will re-seduce it, regardless of what your current target is. It will not focus your current target, and seduce that; it will re-seduce it's focused target. If used during Seduction, it will break the seduction and re-seduce the focused target. If clicked while "Alt" is being pressed, it will cancel the previous focus and assign a new focus on your current target.
#show Seduction /clearfocus [modifier:alt] /focus [target=focus,noexists]; [target=focus,dead] /clearfocus [target=focus,help] /petstay /petfollow /stopcasting /cast [pet:succubus,target=focus,exists,harm] Seduction; Seduction
Succubus Seduce (Without breaking current focus)
If you use focus for other things, this macro will help you keep your focus target, while seducing. Either right or left click to seduce first time. Left click to re-seduce. Right click to change target and seduce that instead. If you left click before seduce is over it will break seduce and re-seduce in one go. If you let seduce run out the succubus will attack that mob. If your succubus is fighting something and you left click it will try to its current target, right click if you want it to seduce something else. - Thankyou to Tahl, Jaedenar Euro PvP for sharing. [ Link ]
#showtooltip seduction /stopmacro [nopet:succubus] /petfollow /petattack [target=pettarget] /cast [button:1,target=pettarget] Seduction /cast [button:2,target=playertarget] Seduction
Felhunter Devour Magic
Left clicking will Devour Magic off your current target. Right clicking will devour it off you.
/cast [button:2,target=player] Devour Magic; Devour Magic
Felhunter Devour Magic (Semi-intelligent)
If target is friendly, he gets dispel priority over my mouse - over target (if he's friendly), who gets dispel priority over me, who gets dispel priority over the felhunter himself. Finally, the macro will devour off your current target if all else fails (to be used offensively)
/cast [help] Devour Magic; [target=mouseover, help] Devour Magic /cast [target=player] Devour Magic /cast [target=pet] Devour Magic /cast Devour Magic
Felhunter Spell Lock
This macro will Spell Lock your pets target if he has one, or yours if he doesn't.
#showtooltip /cast [target=pettarget, harm] [] Spell Lock
Voidwalker Shield/Fel Domination/Summon Voidwalker
This will Sacrifice your VW, Cast Fel Domination, and then summon another VW. Will only work in combat.
#showtooltip /stopmacro [nocombat] /stopmacro [nopet:voidwalker] /cast [pet:voidwalker] Sacrifice /cast fel domination /stopcasting /cast summon voidwalker
Fel Domination Summoning/Soul Link
This macro will summon your imp with a normal cast. If you already have an imp summoned, it will cast Soul Link. If you are in combat and have any pet OTHER than the imp (which is alive), it will cast Fel Domination and summon the imp. You can force the macro to not cast Fel Dom by holding down any modifier key. This macro can be changed for your other pets by replacing the pet:imp and Summon Imp with the appropriate pets (felhunter, felguard, voidwalker, succubus).
#showtooltip /cast [pet:imp,nodead] Soul Link /cast [combat,nomodifier] Fel Domination /stopcasting [combat,nomodifier] /cast Summon Imp
Pet attack totems
Arena macro for targeting shaman totems are highest importance then sending a pet to attack it. This will change your target. Obviously you can modify this to your own liking. Put the most important totem last. This will change your target since it does not utilize focus.
/tar Windfury Totem;/tar Earthbind Totem;/tar Mana Tide Totem;/tar Tremor Totem;/tar Grounding Totem;/petattack;

Re: Pet Macro Guide

I'm looking for a really simple way to accomplish the following on a single button.

Typically, my /petattack is preceded by /asssistx to ensure that my pet is attacking the target of my tank. So, I'd like my mac to look something like /assist x /petattack however, I'd like the same button to be able to, when alt is pressed, toggle "/petfollow" Is this even possible? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Edit: Did a little research and I THINK I figured a simple solution out.

The idea here is that many times while in a raid or boss fight, you need to reposition. Leaving your Imp behind, tends to get it killed. The general rule of thumb should be, when you move, your pet moves (Imp). Easy solution is:

/assist x
/petattack [nomodifier]
/petfollow [modifier:alt]

I typically just comment out the /assist x if I am soloing #/assist x

The assumption here, also, is that your pet is always on passive and that you spam your /petattack macro to ensure that your pet is always on the target that your tank is on. (ideal for pet survivability). I'm not saying that this is the only way, just a good way to keep your pet alive and thus, your pet DPS pumping.

Re: Pet Macro Guide

Another macro I use (particularly useful on Sarthirion and Anub'Rekhan, among others) is a 'toggle' macro for /petpassive and /petdefensive. I keep this macro on one of my extra mouse buttons for quick-fire use!
Code:
/petdefensive
/petpassive [target=pettarget,exists]
This sets your pet to defensive by default, but if (s)he is already attacking someone, it sets passive mode. Since your pet does not have a target while passive, the next click goes back to defensive.

To expand this slightly, if you so need, here's the preemptive passive version:
Code:
/petdefensive
/petpassive [target=pettarget,exists][mod:alt]
This version works exactly the same, with the addition of allowing you to set /petpassive while out of combat using the 'alt' key.

Re: Pet Macro Guide

I just completed updating the Pet Macro Guide and reviewing it for 3.1
There were some serious inconsistencies for whatever reason (my fault), so those have been corrected. I also updated the wording a bit to include Wrath content.
Let me know of any issues with the guide, it's macros or wording. Also, if you have new / better / different macros, feel free to post them here and I will try to include them as well.

Re: Pet Macro Guide

Very interesting stuff. I couldnt play a pet build nowadays without a

/petdefensive
/petpassive

bound to the mouse. I also tend to play with /petaggressive in my attack macros, takes a little practice not mess it up, but it really ensure the felguard will do his cleaves and intercept as soon as its of cd, keeping management down to recall him when he takes heavy damage.

But what I really would like to be able to do is get a macro that toggle between follow and stay. Do you guys know how this can be done?

Re: Pet Macro Guide

It appears to be impossible to directly toggle /petstay and /petfollow. The best I've seen thus far is:
Code:
/petstay [mod:shift]
/petfollow [nomod]
