Pet Macro Guide (Version 3.3)

In an effort to gain better control of my pets, I came to the Pet Macro’s section of the Warlock’s Den. I read every macro there, and tried to wrap my head around what each of them do for me, and to my pets. They pretty much summed up everything that each pet needed. The Voidwalker has Consume Shadows and Sacrifice, the Succubus is good for her Seduction, and the Felhunter for his Devour Magic and Spell Lock abilities. I added these macros to my game, but something just didn’t seem complete.

This guide is aimed at completing the macros you may never have known you needed, and helps you dump Necrosis if all you are using it for is demon summons. I will show you how to reduce each of your pets to a single button macro for all of their relevant abilities… including the Demonologist talents “Fel Domination” and “Soul Link”.

A few notes are in order however. The “#showtooltip” command is the only case sensitive command in these macros. It must be all lower case. The name of the tooltip, if specified, is not case sensitive. Also, the “/stopmacro” line is there just to stop the macro from continuing while you are summoning a demon. Once the demon is summoned, click it again to use the relevant abilities.


Pet control is what it's all about here. Given that most of our pets are melee, that puts them in harm's way more often. We need to protect them, and thus keep our DPS up. Here's a macro I keep bound to a mouse button for calling my pets back:

Pet Yo-Yo Macro
This macro will put your pet on defensive if he is not in combat, and passive if he is. Click once to tell your pet to stop attacking and either follow you or go to his "stay" point, and click again to resume combat. He will not actually begin combat again until you land a spell or he gets hit.

Version 2:
This is two separate macros I keep bound to my mousewheel. I find this setup to work best as it's a bit more intuitive and allows you to change pet targets by rolling your mousewheel up.
Mousewheel UP is for returning to combat, with an Imp twist:
And Mousewheel DOWN is defensive following with and Imp twist:
First up is your trusty, albeit mouthy, Imp. His one useful on-demand ability is the Fire Shield. In groups or raids, this little guy can toss a Fire Shield on the tank for a little extra aggro between this firebolts. Here’s the breakdown:

Imp Macro
This will summon your Imp if he is not out. If he is out, it will cast Fire Shield on you with a right click (not normally what you want). On a left click with the Imp out, it will cast Fire Shield on the first helpful target in this order: Mouseover, Target, Target of Target. This way, you can target someone in your party / raid using their unit frame, or your target (if it is helpful), or it falls through to whoever is tanking your target (hopefully not you!).


Upon reaching 10th level, the second demon you learn to summon is your personal body guard for the next 40 levels or so. He is very frequently used while leveling or farming. Once out of combat, you might need to heal him up a bit with his Consume Shadows ability, but if you find yourself in a really tight spot in combat, Sacrifice is your “bubble” while you run (or resummon a demon). I include on this macro the two demonologist talents in dark green as they might be useful to some PvP-specced people or the brave few that use this guy to off-tank. If you don’t have these talents, you may safely delete the dark green lines, although they will do no harm if you keep them. Here’s the breakdown:

Voidwalker Macro
If your Voidwalker is not out, it will summon him normally out of combat, or in 0.5 seconds in combat (or with a right click). If the Voidwalker is out, right clicking will cast Soul Link. Left clicking with the Voidwalker out will cast Consume Shadows if out of combat, or Sacrifice if you are in combat. I explicitly called for the Summon Voidwalker tooltip in the first line so I would see something other than Fel Domination, since my Felguard starts the same way. If you shorten it to just “#showtootip” it will show you Fel Domination when the Voidwalker is not out, and the icons of the relevant abilities when he is out.


At 20th level, you learn to summon your first PvP pet, the Succubus. She can lure in your enemies since they think you’re alone and vulnerable, and then trap them with her world renowned powers of seduction. So we include a macro here that does just that. The meat of this macro came from Tahl, Jaedenar Euro PvP. I have adapted the “No Focus Seduce” macro to be a One Button Pet macro by adding in the second line. Here’s the breakdown:

Succubus Macro
This macro summons your succubus if she is not out. If your succubus is out, it will seduce her target on a left click, and your target on a right click. To chain seduce the same mob, target them, then right click. Left clicking will break Seduction and recast on the same target. Right clicks will change to your current target and seduce that instead. If seduction breaks or runs out, the Succubus will begin attacking her target. I included the standard Fel Domination quick summoning for PvP.


Once you reach 30th level, you finally get your puppy, the Felhunter. He seems to be everybody’s favorite PvP pet because of the abilities he has. This pet and the Succubus are the most likely to need micro-management. The abilities we wish to control on our Felhunter are Devour Magic and Spell Lock. As warlocks, we are often tasked with taking out the healer in PvP, so I’ll put Spell Lock on the left click, and Devour Magic on the right. Here’s the breakdown:

Felhunter Macro
This macro, like the ones above it, will summon your Felhunter if he is not out. Due to a major overhaul of this macro, I was able to squeeze in Devour Magic and Spell Lock, as well as the Fel Domination quick summoning. On a left click (or keypress), it will spell lock your pet's target, or your target if he doesn't have one. If you hold <alt>, he will Devour Magic from your mouseover -- useful for picking someone from your unit frames without switching targets. If you don't have a mouseover target, he will Devour Magic normally (his target first, or you if that fails, or him if you're clean too). If you hold <shift>, he will Devour Magic off of you.


At level 50, you have enough talent points to get the 41 point Demonology talent “Summon Felguard”. If you choose to (re)spec this far into Demonology, this guy becomes your new best friend. Many other warlocks have specced for the Felguard to master the Outlands and Northrend prior to endgame raiding, and some well beyond. With the Felguard, we wish to control his Intercept ability. It is a very nice 3 second stun, but it is only available every 30 seconds. And as with the Voidwalker, above, I’ve included the Demonologist talents “Fel Domination” and “Soul Link”, but they are not colored as those are a staple of the build to get this demon. Here’s the breakdown:

Felguard Macro
If your Felguard is not out, it will summon him normally on a left click, or in 0.5 seconds in combat or with a right click. If the Felguard is out, it will try to intercept the focus target on a left click, and casts Soul Link with a right click. This is useful when trying to stop a focused caster from saving the day (and thus ruining yours). I keep a curse macro bound to /petattack to keep the distance right for Intercept to work.
