Newbie - multiple mobs?
Hi there, I am brand new to WoW, just started playing about a week ago and having lot of fun I am now a level 20 warlock. I have no problems soloing when one mob, but my question is what to do when there are 2 or 3 mobs all at once? I have my voidwalker, first thing is sometimes I have hard time getting the voidwalker to grab aggro on the other mobs, especially if it an add. The other question is how do you heal your pet? The health funnel semms to be a waste it just does not heal fast enough and I tried used bandaging but I keep getting interrupted somewhoe eventhough I am not getting hit. Right now I am going affliction and have 5 points in corruption, 2 in imp drain soul, 2 in soul siphon and 1 in suppression, i have one point left not sure where to put it next thanks in advance

I personally don't like void much, because when he loses aggro the only thing he can be usefull for is being sacrificed. I like succu a lot more, although at lv 20 you don't have her :P |

Re: Newbie - multiple mobs?
Note that the way bandaging works is, if the target you're healing is getting hit, it will get interrupted. So if your void walker pet has an aggro on a monster and not you, even if you're not getting hit while casting bandage on your pet, it will still get interrupted.

Re: Newbie - multiple mobs?
Do you pull mobs? Or are you sending the voidwalker down to where the mob is hanging out?
Pull the mob towards you with a low-damage spell, Curse of Agony, and then tell the Voidwalker to attack the mob. This should keep you further away from patrols, or mobs that pace back and forth. Here's how you pull a caster mob: Cast Curse of Tongues, and run back. You are now outside of the caster's casting range, they will chase you. Then you attack the kited caster with the voidwalker. Healing the Voidwalker: You also have "Consume Shadows" Rank 1 that you learned at Level 18, right? When you are out of combat, hit Consume Shadows and he will channel a healing spell. It will burn much of his mana though, so make sure you'll have enough leftover for taunts. Health Funnel is nice to keep your pet from dying, but Health Funnel (without points in Improved Health Funnel) is not very effective since the voidwalker won't really be doing enough damage to the mob and the fight will just drag on. |

Re: Newbie - multiple mobs?
Make sure you get all your pet abilities and if you try the succubus now, remember that she doesn't have all of hers yet. If you don't like her right away try again once she has all her abilities.
Now I used my void untill the mid 20s when i switched to the succubus, and I tend to play somewhat confrontational. That means I don't mind tanking the mob myself. When I get an add I usually have a few things I try to do: 1) I will fear the mob if It is possible, other mob types around mean that this isn't possible. The add will bring back other friends and thats bad. 2) If the first mob I am fighting is somewhat low on life, I tell my pet to switch targets and finish the first one fast. 3) I dot the second mob up, and either drain life or wand him to death while he beats on me. That's the basics of how I deal with adds, just try different things untill you find something that works for you. Then keep trying to improve it or try new ways occasionally, you will find that there are many ways to deal with every situation. |

Re: Newbie - multiple mobs?
good advice on this forum. it gets easier when you get higher up. at my level, i can take 4 mobs of the same level and still come up with full health, though my mana and my pets mana will be shot.

Re: Newbie - multiple mobs?
i found personaly that the best way do deal with multiple mobs that you cant pull seperatly is to send your pet in first. attack only the mob that your VW is attacking. Since you have done nothing to the other mobs to aggro them they will continue to beat on your VW until you piss them off. Systematiclly kill off the ones that your VW is focusing on. Remeber to keep him healed with health funnel, IMO for soloing health funnel is one of the most usefull spells in the game. Also if you get a little bit more than you can handle and there arent any pats or mobs close by you can throw out a fear to keep one busy until your ready to handle him. As you get used to playing your lock handling 3-4 mobs at once generally isnt to much of a problem. GL

Re: Newbie - multiple mobs?
Like bobthepotato said, if it's a situation where I know I can't pick them off individually, I'll use the voidwalker, sending him in before I even cast anything to grab aggro. If I cast before he gets there, normally the add ons will target me before him and there's a greater chance of them resisting his taunts.
Samor's method is somewhat similiar to what I do myself. I've found that in the outlands, it's quite easy to get one, two or even three add ons without even trying. But usually, if my voidwalker hasn't grabbed aggro of the new one yet, I'll send him to attack it while I nuke the first as fast as I can. If the area is clear enough and we've somehow gotten another add on or two, depending on the level, I'll try to fear one, keeping an eye on my voidwalker's health to see how much he can handle. He's pretty tough, so I don't worry too much until we're on our 5th or 6th mob in a row sometimes. As for health funnel, I have no points in improving it but it still seems to be enough to keep him alive long enough for me to finish off the mobs. In an emergency though, I'll fear whatever is killing him, if it's still near full health and then recall the voidwalker and bandage him without interruption. After that, I'll begin to dot the feared mob and when they run back, I'll send the voidwalker back out or just keep blasting at it until it drops. If it's too crowded to fear safely, I'll dot all the mobs left and then start nuking as fast as I can. Most of the time, this will get me aggro, but a healthstone or a potion will normally give me enough health to survive until I take them down. I don't mind getting hit, in fact with backlash it's pretty nice to see an instant shadowbolt finish off the mob in my face hahaha. And for those times when you realize you just can't win, there are too many to take down safely by yourself, I'll sac the voidwalker and run like the dickens, maybe popping a healthstone just in case I accidentally aggro something in my flee for life. As stated before, there are many different ways to handle a situation. It will usually depend on what pet you have out and what your playstyle is. Also for myself, being on a pvp server where alliance ganking seems to be the number one pastime, I always try to keep my health and mana as full as possible while questing. Only in emergencies, unwanted or unforseen add ons, do I let myself get too low on either. So that definitely affects the way I play and fight. But that's one of the more fun things about warlocks, there's no one standard play style. Good luck and most of all, have fun! :D |
