Encounter with a Shaman today
Hey All,
I love warlocks and this is why: I was finishing up this morning, before leaving for work, and in the middle of hearthing a 57 hordie shaman shows up and bonks me. So my hearth quit and the battle was on. Mind you i am only 52. We were duking it out and i feared him, DCd em, and then my Succy had him seduced. Unfortuntely, i didnt react to this seduce quickly enough and instead of lambasting him with my soul fire, which believe it or not, would have ended this fight as i had him beat down pretty good, i instead hit him with a damn immolate, nice, but not enough to finish it. So the seduce broke and he jumped on me and did some kind of stomp which prevented me finishing my cast and then thumped me again and i was dead. So i lost the fight because of my own stupidity, but man i was CLOSE! Next time i wont make the same mistake with my Seduce. So the point is not that i won or lost, only that i gave this a hell of a run for his money, and he had the dropped on me, and i was turning the tables on him until my mistake. So i 'could' have beat him, 5 levels above me! That is the joy of a warlock. If you play them correctly, we are damn near unstoppable. Well back to work and cant wait for my next hordie battle! Re: Encounter with a Shaman today
Nice one Kai.
I think I met the same shammie in Burning Steppes last week ! In the middle of fighting 2 of those stone golems, I see a shammy go into wolf form and move towards me. Hit perception, set the VW onto him, fear and dot, back to killing the golems, fear the shammy again, DC and just to rub it in, drain soul for a shard !! He was level 54, I was 50.... It kinda made my week ![]() A bit like the hunter in timbermaw who decided to target me whilst already dying from 3 lvl55 mobs. They aggo'ed onto him and his pet once I died. Used soulstone, dot dot dot his pet, feared him into mobs of timbermaw, run away laughing ! ![]() |

Re: Encounter with a Shaman today
Shammies = Soul Food for Locks. Interestingly enough you should have just feared him again. By all accounts he had only one maybe 2 fear effects on him at the time. The third would have lasted long enough before diminishing returns kicked in too heavily.
The big trick with shamans is ignoring the grounding totem (use a crap spell to use up the effect then cast for real), and I believe making sure Tremor Totems go down asap. R, Lilguy |

Re: Encounter with a Shaman today
the way i always deal with hunters is this:
most of the time you can see the pet coming, and for some reason, hunters love to sick their pets on locks first. so first fear pet, then you can send minion after it and cast Curse of Agony and maybe SB. the hunter will have done some ranged damage by this point so you run right at him, loading up dots. more than likely, he will try to evade you so he can get back to using his only option left, ranged attacks, because his pet is dead and hunter's melee is about as good as locks. depending on his life left, you can either fear him or just finish off with a shadowburn or something. anyway, that's what i do, hope it helps. |

Re: Encounter with a Shaman today
Key to hunters is definitely range. You have to, emphasis on have, get into their melee range. A well geared hunter will mow through cloth in what 4 shots? If I encounter a hunter and I'm mounted, I make a mad dash into melee range, dismount, pop IHOT (affliction specc'd) and load up the dots, I can usually burn him down in a few ticks with drainlife going as well. Easy fight....If I'm on foot: cast DC at them and so they can't scatter shot me or whatever, while they're feared cast my insta dots while running into range once I get in range it's another IHOT and they're done for....If game mechanics decides to own my DC by allowing his scatter shot to get off, you probably won't get in range by the tme you have 1/4 hp. GG you, but just keep dotting and casting whatever damage you can. But yeah, ignore the pet or cast CoW on it, fear works almost 0% of the time, and you're usually almost dead by the time it finishes.
A well played shaman is sometimes tough, they can do impressive burst damage and take a good chunk of your hp every what...30 seconds or something? But yeah, fear..dot.dot.dot.dot.dot drainlife wins it for me. |
